Psalms 55

1 David in his prayer complaineth of his fearful case. 9 He prayeth against his enemies, of whose wickedness and treachery he complaineth. 16 He comforteth himself in God's preservation of him, and confusion of his enemies.

 55:1 [[For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A Maskil of David.]] Give 238 ear 238 to my prayer 8605, O God 430; And do not hide 5956 Yourself from my supplication 8467.

 55:2 Give 7181 heed 7181 to me and answer 6030a me; I am restless 7300 in my complaint 7879 and am surely 1949 distracted 1949,

 55:3 Because 4480 of the voice 6963 of the enemy 340, Because 4480 6440 of the pressure 6125 of the wicked 7563; For they bring 4131 down 4131 trouble 205 upon me And in anger 639 they bear 7852 a grudge 7852 against 7852 me.

 55:4 ¶ My heart 3820 is in anguish 2342a within 7130 me, And the terrors 367 of death 4194 have fallen 5307 upon me.

 55:5 Fear 3374 and trembling 7461a come 935 upon me, And horror 6427 has overwhelmed 3680 me.

 55:6 I said 559, “Oh 4310 5414, that I had 5414 wings 83 like a dove 3123! I would fly 5774a away 5774a and be at rest 7931.

 55:7 “Behold 2009, I would wander 5074 far 7368 away, I would lodge 3885a in the wilderness 4057b. Selah 5542.

 55:8 “I would hasten 2363a to my place 4655 of refuge 4655 From the stormy 5584 wind 7307 [and] tempest 5591a.”

 55:9 ¶ Confuse 1104, O Lord 136, divide 6385 their tongues 3956, For I have seen 7200 violence 2555 and strife 7379 in the city 5892b.

 55:10 Day 3119 and night 3915 they go 5437 around 5437 her upon her walls 2346, And iniquity 205 and mischief 5999 are in her midst 7130.

 55:11 Destruction 1942 is in her midst 7130; Oppression 8496 and deceit 4820 do not depart 4185 from her streets 7339.

 55:12 ¶ For it is not an enemy 340 who reproaches 2778a me, Then I could bear 5375 [it]; Nor 3808 is it one who hates 8130 me who has exalted 1431 himself against 5921 me, Then I could hide 5641 myself from him.

 55:13 But it is you, a man 582 my equal 6187, My companion 441a and my familiar 3045 friend 3045;

 55:14 We who 834 had 4985 sweet 4985 fellowship 5475 together 3164a Walked 1980 in the house 1004 of God 430 in the throng 7285a.

 55:15 Let death 4194 come 5378 deceitfully 5378 upon them; Let them go 3381 down 3381 alive 2416a to Sheol 7585, For evil 7451a is in their dwelling 4033, in their midst 7130.

 55:16 ¶ As for me, I shall call 7121 upon God 430, And the LORD 3068 will save 3467 me.

 55:17 Evening 6153 and morning 1242 and at noon 6672a, I will complain 7878 and murmur 1993, And He will hear 8085 my voice 6963.

 55:18 He will redeem 6299 my soul 5315 in peace 7965 from the battle 7128 [which is] against me, For they are many 7227a [who strive] with me.

 55:19 God 410 will hear 8085 and answer 6030a them— Even the one who sits 3427 enthroned 3427 from of old 6924a— Selah 5542. With whom 834 there 369 is no 369 change 2487, And who do not fear 3372a God 430.

 55:20 He has put 7971 forth 7971 his hands 3027 against those who 7965 were at peace 7965 with him; He has violated 2490c his covenant 1285.

 55:21 His speech 6310 was smoother 2505b than 4480 butter 4260, But his heart 3820 was war 7128; His words 1697 were softer 7401 than 4480 oil 8081, Yet they were drawn 6609 swords 6609.

 55:22 ¶ Cast 7993 your burden 3053 upon the LORD 3068 and He will sustain 3557 you; He will never 3808 5769 allow 5414 the righteous 6662 to be shaken 4131.

 55:23 But You, O God 430, will bring 3381 them down 3381 to the pit 875 of destruction 7845; Men 376 of bloodshed 1818 and deceit 4820 will not live 2673 out half 2673 their days 3117. But I will trust 982 in You.
