Psalms 40

1 The benefit of confidence in God. 6 Obedience is the best sacrifice. 11 The sense of David's evils inflameth his prayer.

 40:1 [[For the choir director. A Psalm of David.]] I waited 6960a patiently 6960a for the LORD 3068; And He inclined 5186 to me and heard 8085 my cry 7775.

 40:2 He brought 5927 me up out of the pit 953a of destruction 7588, out of the miry 3121 clay 2916, And He set 6965 my feet 7272 upon a rock 5553 making 3559 my footsteps 804a firm 3559.

 40:3 He put 5414 a new 2319 song 7892a in my mouth 6310, a song 8416 of praise 8416 to our God 430; Many 7227a will see 7200 and fear 3372a And will trust 982 in the LORD 3068.

 40:4 ¶ How blessed 835 is the man 1397 who 834 has made 7760 the LORD 3068 his trust 4009, And has not turned 6437 to the proud 7295, nor to those who lapse 7750 into falsehood 3577.

 40:5 Many 7227a, O LORD 3068 my God 430, are the wonders 6381 which You have done 6213a, And Your thoughts 4284 toward 413 us; There 369 is none 369 to compare 6186a with You. If I would declare 5046 and speak 1696 of them, They would be too 4480 numerous 6105a to count 5608.

 40:6 ¶ Sacrifice 2077 and meal 4503 offering 4503 You have not desired 2654a; My ears 241 You have opened 3738a; Burnt 5930a offering 5930a and sin 2401 offering 2401 You have not required 7592.

 40:7 Then 227 I said 559, “Behold 2009, I come 935; In the scroll 4039 of the book 5612 it is written 3789 of me.

 40:8 I delight 2654a to do 6213a Your will 7522, O my God 430; Your Law 8451 is within 8432 my heart 4578.”

 40:9 ¶ I have proclaimed 1319 glad 1319 tidings 1319 of righteousness 6664 in the great 7227a congregation 6951; Behold 2009, I will not restrain 3607 my lips 8193, O LORD 3068, You know 3045.

 40:10 I have not hidden 3680 Your righteousness 6666 within 8432 my heart 3820; I have spoken 559 of Your faithfulness 530 and Your salvation 8668; I have not concealed 3582 Your lovingkindness 2617a and Your truth 571 from the great 7227a congregation 6951.

 40:11 ¶ You, O LORD 3068, will not withhold 3607 Your compassion 7356 from me; Your lovingkindness 2617a and Your truth 571 will continually 8548 preserve 5341 me.

 40:12 For evils 7463a beyond 5704 369 number 4557 have surrounded 661 me; My iniquities 5771 have overtaken 5381 me, so that I am not able 3201 to see 7200; They are more 4480 numerous 6105a than 4480 the hairs 8185 of my head 7218, And my heart 3820 has failed 5800a me.

 40:13 ¶ Be pleased 7521, O LORD 3068, to deliver 5337 me; Make 2363a haste 2363a, O LORD 3068, to help 5833 me.

 40:14 Let those be ashamed 954 and humiliated 3637 together 3162 Who seek 1245 my life 5315 to destroy 5595 it; Let those be turned 5472 back 268 and dishonored 3637 Who 2655 delight 2655 in my hurt 7463a.

 40:15 Let those be appalled 8074 because 5921 6118 of their shame 1322 Who say 559 to me, “Aha 1889, aha 1889!”

 40:16 Let all 3605 who seek 1245 You rejoice 7797 and be glad 8055 in You; Let those who love 157 Your salvation 8668 say 559 continually 8548, “The LORD 3068 be magnified 1431!”

 40:17 Since I am afflicted 6041 and needy 34, Let the Lord 136 be mindful 2803 of me. You are my help 5833 and my deliverer 6403; Do not delay 309, O my God 430.
