Psalms 49

1 An earnest persuasion to build the faith of resurrection, not on worldly power, but on God. 16 Worldly prosperity is not to be admired.

 49:1 [[For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.]] Hear 8085 this 384, all 3605 peoples 5971a; Give 238 ear 238, all 3605 inhabitants 3427 of the world 2465,

 49:2 Both 1571 low 1121 120 and high 1121 376, Rich 6223 and poor 34 together 3162.

 49:3 My mouth 6310 will speak 1696 wisdom 2451, And the meditation 1900 of my heart 3820 [will be] understanding 8394.

 49:4 I will incline 5186 my ear 241 to a proverb 4912; I will express 6605a my riddle 2420 on the harp 3658.

 49:5 ¶ Why 4100 should I fear 3372a in days 3117 of adversity 7451b, When the iniquity 5771 of my foes 6120 surrounds 5437 me,

 49:6 Even those who trust 982 in their wealth 2428 And boast 1984b in the abundance 7230 of their riches 6239?

 49:7 No 3808 man 376 can by any 6299 means 6299 redeem 6299 [his] brother 251 Or 3808 give 5414 to God 430 a ransom 3724a for him—

 49:8 For the redemption 6306b of his soul 5315 is costly 3365, And he should cease 2308 [trying] forever 5769—

 49:9 That he should live 2421a on eternally 5331, That he should not undergo 7845 decay 7845.

 49:10 ¶ For he sees 7200 [that even] wise 2450 men 2450 die 4191; The stupid 3684 and the senseless 1198 alike 3162 perish 6 And leave 5800a their wealth 2428 to others 312.

 49:11 Their inner 7130 thought 7130 is [that] their houses 1004 are forever 5769 [And] their dwelling 4908 places 4908 to all 1755 generations 1755; They have called 7121 their lands 127 after their own names 8034.

 49:12 But man 120 in [his] pomp 3366 will not endure 3885a; He is like 4911a the beasts 929 that perish 1820.

 49:13 ¶ This 2088 is the way 1870 of those who are foolish 3689, And of those after 310 them who approve 7521 their words 6310. Selah 5542.

 49:14 As sheep 6629 they are appointed 8371 for Sheol 7585; Death 4194 shall be their shepherd 7462a; And the upright 3477 shall rule 7287a over them in the morning 1242, And their form 6736 shall be for Sheol 7585 to consume 1086 So 4480 that they have no 4480 habitation 2073.

 49:15 But God 430 will redeem 6299 my soul 5315 from the power 3027 of Sheol 7585, For He will receive 3947 me. Selah 5542.

 49:16 ¶ Do not be afraid 3372a when 3588 a man 376 becomes 6238 rich 6238, When 3588 the glory 3519b of his house 1004 is increased 7235a;

 49:17 For when 3588 he dies 4194 he will carry 3947 nothing 3808 3605 away; His glory 3519b will not descend 3381 after 310 him.

 49:18 Though 3588 while he lives 2425b he congratulates 1288 himself 5315— And though [men] praise 3034 you when 3588 you do 3190 well 3190 for yourself—

 49:19 He shall go 935 to the generation 1755 of his fathers 1; They will never 3808 5704 5331 see 7200 the light 216.

 49:20 Man 120 in [his] pomp 3366, yet without 3808 understanding 995, Is like 4911a the beasts 929 that perish 1820.
