1 David prayeth to be delivered from Saul and Doeg. 8 He prayeth against them. 12 He comforteth himself by confidence in God.

 140:1 [[For the choir director. A Psalm of David.]] Rescue 2502a me, O LORD 3068, from evil 7451a men 376; Preserve 5341 me from violent 2555 men 120

 140:2 Who 834 devise 2803 evil 7451a things 7451a in [their] hearts 3820; They continually 3605 3117 stir 1481b up wars 4421.

 140:3 They sharpen 8150 their tongues 3956 as a serpent 5175; Poison 2534 of a viper 5919 is under 8478 their lips 8193. Selah 5542.

 140:4 ¶ Keep 8104 me, O LORD 3068, from the hands 3027 of the wicked 7563; Preserve 5341 me from violent 2555 men 376 Who 834 have purposed 2803 to trip 1760 up my feet 6471.

 140:5 The proud 1343 have hidden 2934 a trap 6341a for me, and cords 2256a; They have spread 6566 a net 7568 by the wayside 4570; They have set 7896 snares 4170 for me. Selah 5542.

 140:6 ¶ I said 559 to the LORD 3068, “You are my God 410; Give 238 ear 238, O LORD 3068, to the voice 6963 of my supplications 8469.

 140:7 “O GOD 3068 the Lord 136, the strength 5797 of my salvation 3444, You have covered 5526a my head 7218 in the day 3117 of battle 5402.

 140:8 “Do not grant 5414, O LORD 3068, the desires 3970 of the wicked 7563; Do not promote 6329 his [evil] device 2162, [that] they [not] be exalted 7311. Selah 5542.

 140:9 ¶ “As for the head 7218 of those who surround 5437 me, May the mischief 5999 of their lips 8193 cover 3680 them.

 140:10 “May burning 784 coals 1513 fall 4131 upon them; May they be cast 5307 into the fire 784, Into deep 4113 pits 4113 from which they cannot 1077 rise 6965.

 140:11 “May a slanderer 376 3956 not be established 3559 in the earth 776; May evil 7451b hunt 6679 the violent 2555 man 376 speedily 4073.”

 140:12 ¶ I know 3045 that the LORD 3068 will maintain 6213a the cause 1779 of the afflicted 6031a And justice 4941 for the poor 34.

 140:13 Surely 389 the righteous 6662 will give 3034 thanks 3034 to Your name 8034; The upright 3477 will dwell 3427 in Your presence 6440.
