Psalms 44

1 The Church, in memory of former favours, 7 complaineth of her present evils. 17 Professing her integrity, 24 she fervently prayeth for succour.

 44:1 [[For the choir director. A Maskil of the sons of Korah.]] O God 430, we have heard 8085 with our ears 241, Our fathers 1 have told 5608 us The work 6467 that You did 6466 in their days 3117, In the days 3117 of old 6924a.

 44:2 You with Your own hand 3027 drove 3423 out the nations 1471; Then You planted 5193 them; You afflicted 7489a the peoples 3816, Then You spread 7971 them abroad.

 44:3 For by their own sword 2719 they did not possess 3423 the land 776, And their own arm 2220 did not save 3467 them, But Your right 3225 hand 3225 and Your arm 2220 and the light 216 of Your presence 6440, For You favored 7521 them.

 44:4 ¶ You are my King 4428, O God 430; Command 6680 victories 3444 for Jacob 3290.

 44:5 Through You we will push 5055 back 5055 our adversaries 6862c; Through Your name 8034 we will trample 947 down 947 those who rise 6965 up against us.

 44:6 For I will not trust 982 in my bow 7198, Nor 3808 will my sword 2719 save 3467 me.

 44:7 But You have saved 3467 us from our adversaries 6862c, And You have put 954 to shame 954 those who hate 8130 us.

 44:8 In God 430 we have boasted 1984b all 3605 day 3117 long, And we will give 3034 thanks 3034 to Your name 8034 forever 5769. Selah 5542.

 44:9 ¶ Yet 637 You have rejected 2186a [us] and brought 3637 us to dishonor 3637, And do not go 3318 out with our armies 6635.

 44:10 You cause us to turn 7725 back 268 from the adversary 6862c; And those who hate 8130 us have taken 8154 spoil 8154 for themselves.

 44:11 You give 5414 us as sheep 6629 to be eaten 3978 And have scattered 2219 us among the nations 1471.

 44:12 You sell 4376 Your people 5971a cheaply 3808 1952, And have not profited 7235a by their sale 4242.

 44:13 You make 7760 us a reproach 2781 to our neighbors 7934, A scoffing 3933 and a derision 7047 to those around 5439 us.

 44:14 You make 7760 us a byword 4912 among the nations 1471, A laughingstock 4493 7218 among the peoples 3816.

 44:15 All 3605 day 3117 long my dishonor 3639 is before 5048 me And my humiliation 1322 6440 has overwhelmed 3680 me,

 44:16 Because 4480 of the voice 6963 of him who reproaches 2778a and reviles 1442, Because 4480 of the presence 6440 of the enemy 340 and the avenger 5358.

 44:17 ¶ All 3605 this 384 has come 935 upon us, but we have not forgotten 7911 You, And we have not dealt 8266 falsely 8266 with Your covenant 1285.

 44:18 Our heart 3820 has not turned 5472 back 268, And our steps 804a have not deviated 5186 from Your way 734,

 44:19 Yet 3588 You have crushed 1794 us in a place 4725 of jackals 8565 And covered 3680 us with the shadow 6757 of death 6757.

 44:20 ¶ If 518 we had forgotten 7911 the name 8034 of our God 430 Or extended 6566 our hands 3709 to a strange 2114a god 410,

 44:21 Would not God 430 find 2713 this 384 out? For He knows 3045 the secrets 8587 of the heart 3820.

 44:22 But for Your sake 5921 we are killed 2026 all 3605 day 3117 long; We are considered 2803 as sheep 6629 to be slaughtered 2878.

 44:23 Arouse 5782 Yourself, why 4100 do You sleep 3462, O Lord 136? Awake 7019a, do not reject 2186a us forever 5331.

 44:24 Why 4100 do You hide 5641 Your face 6440 [And] forget 7911 our affliction 6040a and our oppression 3906?

 44:25 For our soul 5315 has sunk 7743 down 7743 into the dust 6083; Our body 990 cleaves 1692 to the earth 776.

 44:26 Rise 6965 up, be our help 5833, And redeem 6299 us for the sake 4616 of Your lovingkindness 2617a.
