Isaiah 8

1 In Maher-shalal-hash-baz he prophesieth that Syria and Israel shall be subdued by Assyria. 5 Judah likewise for their infidelity. 9 God's judgments shall be unresistible. 11 Comfort shall be to them that fear God. 19 Great afflictions to idolaters.

 8:1 Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to me, “Take 3947 for yourself a large 1419 tablet 1549 and write 3789 on it in ordinary 582 letters 2747: Swift 4116 is the booty 7998, speedy 2363a is the prey 957.

 8:2 “And I will take 5749b to Myself faithful 539 witnesses 5707 for testimony 5749b, Uriah 223a the priest 3548 and Zechariah 2148a the son 1121 of Jeberechiah 3000.”

 8:3 So I approached 7126 the prophetess 5031, and she conceived 2029 and gave 3205 birth 3205 to a son 1121. Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to me, “Name 7121 8034 him Maher-shalal-hash-baz 4122;

 8:4 for before 2962 the boy 5288 knows 3045 how to cry 7121 out ‘My father 1’ or ‘My mother 517,’ the wealth 2428 of Damascus 1834 and the spoil 7998 of Samaria 8111 will be carried 5375 away before 6440 the king 4428 of Assyria 804b.”

 8:5 ¶ Again 3254 the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to me further 5750, saying 559,

 8:6 “Inasmuch 3282 3588 as these 2088 people 5971a have rejected 3988a the gently 328 flowing 1980 waters 4325 of Shiloah 7975b And rejoice 4885 in Rezin 7526 and the son 1121 of Remaliah 7425;

 8:7 “Now therefore 3651, behold 2009, the Lord 136 is about to bring 5927 on them the strong 6099 and abundant 7227a waters 4325 of the Euphrates 5104, [Even] the king 4428 of Assyria 804b and all 3605 his glory 3519b; And it will rise 5927 up over 5921 all 3605 its channels 650 and go 1980 over 5921 all 3605 its banks 1415.

 8:8 “Then it will sweep 2498 on into Judah 3063, it will overflow 7857 and pass 5674a through 5674a, It will reach 5060 even 5704 to the neck 6677; And the spread 4298 of its wings 3671 will fill 4393 the breadth 7341 of your land 776, O Immanuel 6005.

 8:9 ¶ “Be broken 7489b, O peoples 5971a, and be shattered 2865; And give 238 ear 238, all 3605 remote 4801 places 4801 of the earth 776. Gird 247 yourselves, yet be shattered 2865; Gird 247 yourselves, yet be shattered 2865.

 8:10 “Devise 5779 a plan 6098, but it will be thwarted 6565a; State 1696 a proposal 1697, but it will not stand 6965, For God 410 is with us.”

 8:11 ¶ For thus 3541 the LORD 3068 spoke 559 to me with mighty 2393 power 3027 and instructed 3256 me not to walk 1980 in the way 1870 of this 2088 people 5971a, saying 559,

 8:12 “You are not to say 559, ‘[It is] a conspiracy 7195!’ In regard to all 3605 that this 2088 people 5971a call 559 a conspiracy 7195, And you are not to fear 3372a what 4172 they fear 4172 or be in dread 6206 of [it].

 8:13 “It is the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 whom you should regard 6942 as holy 6942. And He shall be your fear 4172, And He shall be your dread 6206.

 8:14 “Then He shall become 1961 a sanctuary 4720; But to both 8147 the houses 1004 of Israel 3478, a stone 68 to strike 5063 and a rock 6697 to stumble 4383 over, [And] a snare 6341a and a trap 4170 for the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389.

 8:15 “Many 7227a will stumble 3782 over them, Then they will fall 5307 and be broken 7665; They will even be snared 3369 and caught 3920.”

 8:16 ¶ Bind 6887a up the testimony 8584, seal 2856 the law 8451 among my disciples 3928.

 8:17 And I will wait 2442 for the LORD 3068 who is hiding 5641 His face 6440 from the house 1004 of Jacob 3290; I will even look 6960a eagerly 6960a for Him.

 8:18 Behold 2009, I and the children 3206 whom 834 the LORD 3068 has given 5414 me are for signs 226 and wonders 4159 in Israel 3478 from the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, who dwells 7931 on Mount 2022 Zion 6726.

 8:19 ¶ When 3588 they say 559 to you, “Consult 1875 the mediums 178 and the spiritists 3049 who whisper 6850 and mutter 1897,” should not a people 5971a consult 1875 their God 430? [Should they] [consult] the dead 4191 on behalf 1157 of the living 2416a?

 8:20 To the law 8451 and to the testimony 8584! If 518 they do not speak 559 according to this 2088 word 1697, it is because 834 they have 369 no 369 dawn 7837.

 8:21 They will pass 5674a through the land hard-pressed 7185 and famished 7457, and it will turn 6437 out that when 3588 they are hungry 7456, they will be enraged 7107 and curse 7043 their king 4428 and their God 430 as they face 6437 upward 4605.

 8:22 Then they will look 5027 to the earth 776, and behold 2009, distress 6869a and darkness 2825, the gloom 4588 of anguish 6695b; and [they will be] driven 5080 away 5080 into darkness 653.
