Isaiah 5

1 Under the parable of a vineyard God excuseth his severe judgment. 8 His judgments upon covetousness, 11 upon lasciviousness, 13 upon impiety, 20 and upon injustice. 26 The executioners of God's judgments.

 5:1 Let me sing 7891 now 4994 for my well-beloved 3039 A song 7892b of my beloved 1730 concerning His vineyard 3754. My well-beloved 3039 had 1961 a vineyard 3754 on a fertile 1121 8081 hill 7161.

 5:2 He dug 5823 it all around 5823, removed 5619 its stones 5619, And planted 5193 it with the choicest 8321a vine 8321a. And He built 1129 a tower 4026 in the middle 8432 of it And also 1571 hewed 2672 out a wine 3342 vat 3342 in it; Then He expected 6960a [it] to produce 6213a [good] grapes 6025, But it produced 6213a [only] worthless 891 ones 891.

 5:3 ¶ “And now 6258, O inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389 and men 376 of Judah 3063, Judge 8199 between 996 Me and My vineyard 3754.

 5:4 “What 4100 more 5750 was there to do 6213a for My vineyard 3754 that I have not done 6213a in it? Why 4069, when I expected 6960a [it] to produce 6213a [good] grapes 6025 did it produce 6213a worthless 891 ones 891?

 5:5 “So now 6258 let Me tell 3045 you what 834 I am going to do 6213a to My vineyard 3754: I will remove 5493 its hedge 4905a and it will be consumed 1197a; I will break 6555 down 6555 its wall 1447 and it will become 1961 trampled 4823 ground 4823.

 5:6 “I will lay 7896 it waste 1326; It will not be pruned 2168 or hoed 5737b, But briars 8068 and thorns 7898 will come 5927 up. I will also charge 6680 the clouds 5645 to rain 4305 no 4480 rain 4306 on it.”

 5:7 ¶ For the vineyard 3754 of the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 is the house 1004 of Israel 3478 And the men 376 of Judah 3063 His delightful 8191 plant 5194. Thus He looked 6960a for justice 4941, but behold 2009, bloodshed 4939; For righteousness 6666, but behold 2009, a cry 6818 of distress 6818.

 5:8 ¶ Woe 1945 to those who add 5060 house 1004 to house 1004 [and] join 7126 field 7704 to field 7704, Until 5704 there is no 657 more 657 room 4725, So that you have to live 3427 alone 905 in the midst 7130 of the land 776!

 5:9 In my ears 241 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 [has sworn], “Surely 518 3808, many 7227a houses 1004 shall become 1961 desolate 8047, [Even] great 1419 and fine 2896a ones 2896a, without 369 occupants 3427.

 5:10 “For ten 6235 acres 6776 of vineyard 3754 will yield 6213a [only] one 259 bath 1324 [of wine], And a homer 2563c of seed 2233 will yield 6213a [but] an ephah 374 of grain.”

 5:11 Woe 1945 to those who rise 7925 early 7925 in the morning 1242 that they may pursue 7291 strong 7941 drink 7941, Who stay 309 up late 309 in the evening 5399 that wine 3196 may inflame 1814 them!

 5:12 Their banquets 4960 are [accompanied] by lyre 3658 and harp 5035b, by tambourine 8596 and flute 2485, and by wine 3196; But they do not pay 5027 attention 5027 to the deeds 6467 of the LORD 3068, Nor 3808 do they consider 7200 the work 4639 of His hands 3027.

 5:13 ¶ Therefore 3651 My people 5971a go 1540 into exile 1540 for their lack 1097 of knowledge 1847; And their honorable 3519b men 4962 are famished 7458, And their multitude 1995 is parched 6704 with thirst 6772.

 5:14 Therefore 3651 Sheol 7585 has enlarged 7337 its throat 5315 and opened 6473 its mouth 6310 without 1097 measure 2706; And Jerusalem’s splendor 1926, her multitude 1995, her din 7588 [of revelry] and the jubilant 5938 within her, descend 3381 [into it].

 5:15 So the [common] man 120 will be humbled 7817 and the man 376 of [importance] abased 8213, The eyes 5869 of the proud 1364 also will be abased 8213.

 5:16 But the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 will be exalted 1361b in judgment 4941, And the holy 6918 God 410 will show 6942 Himself holy 6942 in righteousness 6666.

 5:17 Then the lambs 3532 will graze 7462a as in their pasture 1699, And strangers 1481a will eat 398 in the waste 2723 places 2723 of the wealthy 4220.

 5:18 ¶ Woe 1945 to those who drag 4900 iniquity 5771 with the cords 2256a of falsehood 7723, And sin 2403a as if with cart 5699 ropes 5688;

 5:19 Who say 559, “Let Him make 4116 speed 4116, let Him hasten 2363a His work 4639, that we may see 7200 [it]; And let the purpose 6098 of the Holy 6918 One 6918 of Israel 3478 draw 7126 near 7126 And come 935 to pass 935, that we may know 3045 [it]!”

 5:20 Woe 1945 to those who call 559 evil 7451b good 2896b, and good 2896b evil 7451b; Who substitute 7760 darkness 2822 for light 216 and light 216 for darkness 2822; Who substitute 7760 bitter 4751 for sweet 4966 and sweet 4966 for bitter 4751!

 5:21 Woe 1945 to those who 2450 are wise 2450 in their own eyes 5869 And clever 995 in their own sight 5048 6440!

 5:22 Woe 1945 to those who are heroes 1368 in drinking 8354 wine 3196 And valiant 2428 men 376 in mixing 4537 strong 7941 drink 7941,

 5:23 Who justify 6663 the wicked 7563 for a bribe 7810, And take 5493 away 5493 the rights 6666 of the ones who 6662 are in the right 6662!

 5:24 ¶ Therefore 3651, as a tongue 3956 of fire 784 consumes 398 stubble 7179 And dry 2842 grass 2842 collapses 7503 into the flame 3852, So their root 8328 will become 1961 like rot 4716 and their blossom 6525 blow 5927 away 5927 as dust 80; For they have rejected 3988a the law 8451 of the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 And despised 5006 the word 565a of the Holy 6918 One 6918 of Israel 3478.

 5:25 On this 3651 account 3651 the anger 639 of the LORD 3068 has burned 2734 against His people 5971a, And He has stretched 5186 out His hand 3027 against 5921 them and struck 5221 them down 5221. And the mountains 2022 quaked 7264, and their corpses 5038 lay 1961 like refuse 5478 in the middle 7130 of the streets 2351. For all 3605 this 384 His anger 639 is not spent 7725, But His hand 3027 is still 5750 stretched 5186 out.

 5:26 ¶ He will also lift 5375 up a standard 5251 to the distant 7350 nation 1471, And will whistle 8319 for it from the ends 7097a of the earth 776; And behold 2009, it will come 935 with speed 4120 swiftly 7031.

 5:27 No 369 one 369 in it is weary 5889 or stumbles 3782, None 3808 slumbers 5123 or sleeps 3462; Nor 3808 is the belt 232 at its waist 2504 undone 6605a, Nor 3808 its sandal 5275 strap 8288 broken 5423.

 5:28 Its arrows 2671 are sharp 8150 and all 3605 its bows 7198 are bent 1869; The hoofs 6541 of its horses 5483b seem 2803 like flint 6862d and its [chariot] wheels 1534 like a whirlwind 5492a.

 5:29 Its roaring 7581 is like a lioness 3833b, and it roars 7580 like young 3715 lions 3715; It growls 5098 as it seizes 270 the prey 2964 And carries 6403 [it] off 6403 with no 369 one 369 to deliver 5337 [it].

 5:30 And it will growl 5098 over 5921 it in that day 3117 like the roaring 5100 of the sea 3220. If one looks 5027 to the land 776, behold 2009, there is darkness 2822 [and] distress 6862b; Even the light 216 is darkened 2821 by its clouds 6183.
