Isaiah 22

1 The prophet lamenteth the invasion of Jewry by the Persians. 8 He reproveth their human wisdom and worldly joy. 15 He prophesieth Shebna's deprivation, 20 and Eliakim prefiguring the Kingdom of Christ, his substitution.

 22:1 The oracle 4853b concerning the valley 1516 of vision 2384. What 4100 is the matter with you now 645, that you have all 3605 gone 5927 up to the housetops 1406?

 22:2 You who 4392 were full 4392 of noise 8663, You boisterous 1993 town 5892b, you exultant 5947 city 7151; Your slain 2491a were not slain 2491a with the sword 2719, Nor 3808 did they die 4191 in battle 4421.

 22:3 All 3605 your rulers 7101 have fled 5074 together 3162, [And] have been captured 631 without 4480 the bow 7198; All 3605 of you who were found 4672 were taken 631 captive 631 together 3164a, Though they had fled 1272 far 7350 away.

 22:4 Therefore 5921 3651 I say 559, “Turn 8159 your eyes 8159 away 4480 from me, Let me weep 1065 bitterly 4843, Do not try 213 to comfort 5162 me concerning 5921 the destruction 7701 of the daughter 1323 of my people 5971a.”

 22:5 For the Lord 136 GOD 3068 of hosts 6635 has a day 3117 of panic 4103, subjugation 4001 and confusion 3998 In the valley 1516 of vision 2384, A breaking 7175a down 7175a of walls 7023 And a crying 7771b to the mountain 2022.

 22:6 Elam 5867a took 5375 up the quiver 827 With the chariots 7393, infantry 120 [and] horsemen 6571b; And Kir 7024b uncovered 6168 the shield 4043.

 22:7 Then your choicest 4005 valleys 6010 were full 4390 of chariots 7393, And the horsemen 6571b took 7896 up fixed 7896 positions 7896 at the gate 8179.

 22:8 And He removed 1540 the defense 4539 of Judah 3063. In that day 3117 you depended 5027 on the weapons 5402 of the house 1004 of the forest 3293a,

 22:9 And you saw 7200 that the breaches 1233 In the [wall] of the city 5892b of David 1732 were many 7231; And you collected 6908 the waters 4325 of the lower 8481 pool 1295.

 22:10 Then you counted 5608 the houses 1004 of Jerusalem 3389 And tore 5422 down 5422 houses 1004 to fortify 1219 the wall 2346.

 22:11 And you made 6213a a reservoir 4724 between 996 the two 2346 walls 2346 For the waters 4325 of the old 3465 pool 1295. But you did not depend 5027 on Him who made 6213a it, Nor 3808 did you take 7200 into consideration 7200 Him who planned 3335 it long 7350 ago 7350.

 22:12 ¶ Therefore in that day 3117 the Lord 136 GOD 3068 of hosts 6635 called 7121 [you] to weeping 1065, to wailing 4553, To shaving 7144 the head 7144 and to wearing 2296 sackcloth 8242.

 22:13 Instead, there is gaiety 8342 and gladness 8057, Killing 2026 of cattle 1241 and slaughtering 7819 of sheep 6629, Eating 398 of meat 1320 and drinking 8354 of wine 3196: “Let us eat 398 and drink 8354, for tomorrow 4279 we may die 4191.”

 22:14 But the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 revealed 1540 Himself to me, “Surely 518 this 2088 iniquity 5771 shall not be forgiven 3722a you Until 5704 you die 4191,” says 559 the Lord 136 GOD 3068 of hosts 6635.

 22:15 ¶ Thus 3541 says 559 the Lord 136 GOD 3068 of hosts 6635, “Come 1980, go 935 to this 2088 steward 5532a, To Shebna 7644, who 834 is in charge 5921 of the [royal] household 1004,

 22:16 ‘What 4100 right do you have here 6311, And whom 4310 do you have here 6311, That you have hewn 2672 a tomb 6913 for yourself here 6311, You who hew 2672 a tomb 6913 on the height 4791, You who carve 2710 a resting 4908 place 4908 for yourself in the rock 5553?

 22:17 ‘Behold 2009, the LORD 3068 is about to hurl 2904 you headlong 2925, O man 1397. And He is about to grasp 5844b you firmly 5844b

 22:18 [And] roll 6801 you tightly 6801 like a ball 1754, [To be] [cast] into a vast 7342 country 776; There 8033 you will die 4191 And there 8033 your splendid 3519b chariots 4818 will be, You shame 7036 of your master’s 113 house 1004.’

 22:19 “I will depose 1920 you from your office 4673, And I will pull 2040 you down 2040 from your station 4612.

 22:20 “Then it will come 1961 about in that day 3117, That I will summon 7121 My servant 5650 Eliakim 471 the son 1121 of Hilkiah 2518,

 22:21 And I will clothe 3847 him with your tunic 3801 And tie 2388 your sash 73 securely 2388 about him. I will entrust 5414 3027 him with your authority 4475, And he will become 1961 a father 1 to the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389 and to the house 1004 of Judah 3063.

 22:22 “Then I will set 5414 the key 4668 of the house 1004 of David 1732 on his shoulder 7926, When he opens 6605a no 369 one 369 will shut 5462, When he shuts 5462 no 369 one 369 will open 6605a.

 22:23 “I will drive 8628 him [like] a peg 3489 in a firm 539 place 4725, And he will become 1961 a throne 3678 of glory 3519b to his father’s 1 house 1004.

 22:24 “So they will hang 8518 on him all 3605 the glory 3519b of his father’s 1 house 1004, offspring 6631 and issue 6849, all 3605 the least 6996a of vessels 3627, from bowls 3627 101 to all 3605 the jars 3627 5035a.

 22:25 “In that day 3117,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, “the peg 3489 driven 8628 in a firm 539 place 4725 will give 4185 way 4185; it will even break 1438 off 1438 and fall 5307, and the load 4853a hanging on it will be cut 3772 off 3772, for the LORD 3068 has spoken 1696.”
