Isaiah 42

1 The office of Christ, graced with meekness and constancy. 5 God's promise unto him. 10 An exhortation to praise God for his Gospel. 17 He reproveth the people of incredulity.

 42:1 “Behold 2005, My Servant 5650, whom I uphold 8551; My chosen 972 one [in whom] My soul 5315 delights 7521. I have put 5414 My Spirit 7307 upon Him; He will bring 3318 forth 3318 justice 4941 to the nations 1471.

 42:2 “He will not cry 6817 out or raise 5375 [His voice], Nor 3808 make 8085 His voice 6963 heard 8085 in the street 2351.

 42:3 “A bruised 7533 reed 7070 He will not break 7665 And a dimly 3544 burning wick 6594 He will not extinguish 3518; He will faithfully 571 bring 3318 forth 3318 justice 4941.

 42:4 “He will not be disheartened 3543a or crushed 7533 Until 5704 He has established 7760 justice 4941 in the earth 776; And the coastlands 339 will wait 3176 expectantly 3176 for His law 8451.”

 42:5 ¶ Thus 3541 says 559 God 410 the LORD 3068, Who created 1254a the heavens 8064 and stretched 5186 them out, Who spread 7554 out the earth 776 and its offspring 6631, Who gives 5414 breath 5397 to the people 5971a on it And spirit 7307 to those who walk 1980 in it,

 42:6 “I am the LORD 3068, I have called 7121 You in righteousness 6664, I will also hold 2388 You by the hand 3027 and watch 5341 over You, And I will appoint 5414 You as a covenant 1285 to the people 5971a, As a light 216 to the nations 1471,

 42:7 To open 6491b blind 5787 eyes 5869, To bring 3318 out prisoners 616 from the dungeon 4525 And those who dwell 3427 in darkness 2822 from the prison 1004 3608.

 42:8 “I am the LORD 3068, that is My name 8034; I will not give 5414 My glory 3519b to another 312, Nor 3808 My praise 8416 to graven 6456 images 6456.

 42:9 “Behold 2009, the former 7223 things 7223 have come 935 to pass 935, Now I declare 5046 new 2319 things 2319; Before 2962 they spring 6779 forth 6779 I proclaim 8085 [them] to you.”

 42:10 ¶ Sing 7891 to the LORD 3068 a new 2319 song 7892a, [Sing] His praise 8416 from the end 7097a of the earth 776! You who go 3381 down 3381 to the sea 3220, and all 4393 that is in it. You islands 339, and those who dwell 3427 on them.

 42:11 Let the wilderness 4057b and its cities 5892b lift 5375 up [their voices], The settlements 2691b where Kedar 6938 inhabits 3427. Let the inhabitants 3427 of Sela 5553 sing 7442 aloud 7442, Let them shout 6681 for joy 6681 from the tops 7218 of the mountains 2022.

 42:12 Let them give 7760 glory 3519b to the LORD 3068 And declare 5046 His praise 8416 in the coastlands 339.

 42:13 The LORD 3068 will go 3318 forth 3318 like a warrior 1368, He will arouse 5782 [His] zeal 7068 like a man 376 of war 4421. He will utter 7321 a shout 7321, yes 637, He will raise 6873 a war 6873 cry 6873. He will prevail 1396 against 5921 His enemies 340.

 42:14 ¶ “I have kept 2814 silent 2814 for a long 5769 time 5769, I have kept 2814 still 2790b and restrained 662 Myself. [Now] like a woman in labor 3205 I will groan 6463, I will both 3162 gasp 5395 and pant 7602a.

 42:15 “I will lay 2717b waste 2717b the mountains 2022 and hills 1389 And wither 3001 all 3605 their vegetation 6212a; I will make 7760 the rivers 5104 into coastlands 339 And dry 3001 up the ponds 98.

 42:16 “I will lead 1980 the blind 5787 by a way 1870 they do not know 3045, In paths 5410b they do not know 3045 I will guide 1869 them. I will make 7760 darkness 4285 into light 216 before 6440 them And rugged 4625 places 4625 into plains 4334. These 428 are the things 1697 I will do 6213a, And I will not leave 5800a them undone 5800a.”

 42:17 They will be turned 5472 back 268 [and] be utterly 954 put 954 to shame 954, Who trust 982 in idols 6459, Who say 559 to molten 4541a images 4541a, “You are our gods 430.”

 42:18 ¶ Hear 8085, you deaf 2795! And look 5027, you blind 5787, that you may see 7200.

 42:19 Who 4310 is blind 5787 but My servant 5650, Or so deaf 2795 as My messenger 4397 whom I send 7971? Who 4310 is so blind 5787 as he that is at peace 7999b [with Me], Or so blind 5787 as the servant 5650 of the LORD 3068?

 42:20 You have seen 7200 many 7227a things 7227a, but you do not observe 8104 [them]; [Your] ears 241 are open 6491b, but none 3808 hears 8085.

 42:21 The LORD 3068 was pleased 2654a for His righteousness’ 6664 sake 4616 To make 1431 the law 8451 great 1431 and glorious 142.

 42:22 But this 1931 is a people 5971a plundered 962 and despoiled 8154; All 3605 of them are trapped 6351 in caves 2352b, Or are hidden 2244 away in prisons 3608; They have become 1961 a prey 957 with none 369 to deliver 5337 [them], And a spoil 4933, with none 369 to say 559, “Give 7725 [them] back 7725!”

 42:23 ¶ Who 4310 among you will give 238 ear 238 to this 384? Who will give 7181 heed 7181 and listen 8085 hereafter 268?

 42:24 Who 4310 gave 5414 Jacob 3290 up for spoil 4933, and Israel 3478 to plunderers 962? Was it not the LORD 3068, against whom 2098 we have sinned 2398, And in whose ways 1870 they were not willing 14 to walk 1980, And whose law 8451 they did not obey 8085?

 42:25 So He poured 8210 out on him the heat 2534 of His anger 639 And the fierceness 5807 of battle 4421; And it set 3857 him aflame 3857 all 4480 5439 around 5439, Yet he did not recognize 3045 [it]; And it burned 1197a him, but he paid 7760 no 3808 attention 5921 3820.
