Isaiah 51

1 An exhortation, after the pattern of Abraham, to trust in Christ, 3 by reason of his comfortable promises, 4 of his righteous salvation, 7 and man's mortality. 9 Christ by his sanctified arm defendeth his from the fear of man. 17 He bewaileth the afflictions of Jerusalem, 21 and promiseth deliverance.

 51:1 “Listen 8085 to me, you who pursue 7291 righteousness 6664, Who seek 1245 the LORD 3068: Look 5027 to the rock 6697 from which you were hewn 2672 And to the quarry 953a 4718 from which you were dug 5365.

 51:2 “Look 5027 to Abraham 85 your father 1 And to Sarah 8283 who gave 2342a birth 2342a to you in pain 2342a; When 3588 [he] [was but] one 259 I called 7121 him, Then I blessed 1288 him and multiplied 7235a him.”

 51:3 Indeed 3588, the LORD 3068 will comfort 5162 Zion 6726; He will comfort 5162 all 3605 her waste 2723 places 2723. And her wilderness 4057b He will make 7760 like Eden 5731, And her desert 6160 like the garden 1588 of the LORD 3068; Joy 8342 and gladness 8057 will be found 4672 in her, Thanksgiving 8426 and sound 6963 of a melody 2172.

 51:4 ¶ “Pay 7181 attention 7181 to Me, O My people 5971a, And give 238 ear 238 to Me, O My nation 3816; For a law 8451 will go 3318 forth 3318 from Me, And I will set 7280b My justice 4941 for a light 216 of the peoples 5971a.

 51:5 “My righteousness 6664 is near 7138, My salvation 3468 has gone 3318 forth 3318, And My arms 2220 will judge 8199 the peoples 5971a; The coastlands 339 will wait 6960a for Me, And for My arm 2220 they will wait 3176 expectantly 3176.

 51:6 “Lift 5375 up your eyes 5869 to the sky 8064, Then look 5027 to the earth 776 beneath 4480 8478; For the sky 8064 will vanish 4414a like smoke 6227, And the earth 776 will wear 1086 out like a garment 899b And its inhabitants 3427 will die 4191 in like 3644 manner 3654; But My salvation 3444 will be forever 5769, And My righteousness 6666 will not wane 2865.

 51:7 “Listen 8085 to Me, you who know 3045 righteousness 6664, A people 5971a in whose heart 3820 is My law 8451; Do not fear 3372a the reproach 2781 of man 582, Nor 408 be dismayed 2865 at their revilings 1421.

 51:8 “For the moth 6211 will eat 398 them like a garment 899b, And the grub 5580 will eat 398 them like wool 6785. But My righteousness 6666 will be forever 5769, And My salvation 3444 to all 1755 generations 1755.”

 51:9 ¶ Awake 5782, awake 5782, put 3847 on strength 5797, O arm 2220 of the LORD 3068; Awake 5782 as in the days 3117 of old 6924a, the generations 1755 of long 5769 ago 5769. Was it not You who cut 2672 Rahab 7293 in pieces 2672, Who pierced 2490a the dragon 8577?

 51:10 Was it not You who dried 2717a up the sea 3220, The waters 4325 of the great 7227a deep 8415; Who made 7760 the depths 4615 of the sea 3220 a pathway 1870 For the redeemed 1350 to cross 5674a over 5674a?

 51:11 So the ransomed 6299 of the LORD 3068 will return 7725 And come 935 with joyful 7440 shouting 7440 to Zion 6726, And everlasting 5769 joy 8057 [will be] on their heads 7218. They will obtain 5381 gladness 8342 and joy 8057, And sorrow 3015 and sighing 585 will flee 5127 away.

 51:12 ¶ “I, even I, am He who comforts 5162 you. Who 4310 are you that you are afraid 3372a of man 582 who dies 4191 And of the son 1121 of man 120 who is made 5414 like grass 2682,

 51:13 That you have forgotten 7911 the LORD 3068 your Maker 6213a, Who stretched 5186 out the heavens 8064 And laid 3245 the foundations 3245 of the earth 776, That you fear 6342 continually 8548 all 3605 day 3117 long because 4480 6440 of the fury 2534 of the oppressor 6693, As he makes 3559 ready 3559 to destroy 7843? But where 346 is the fury 2534 of the oppressor 6693?

 51:14 “The exile 6808 will soon 4116 be set 6605a free 6605a, and will not die 4191 in the dungeon 7845, nor 3808 will his bread 3899 be lacking 2637.

 51:15 “For I am the LORD 3068 your God 430, who stirs 7280a up the sea 3220 and its waves 1530 roar 1993 (the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 is His name 8034).

 51:16 “I have put 7760 My words 1697 in your mouth 6310 and have covered 3680 you with the shadow 6738 of My hand 3027, to establish 5193 the heavens 8064, to found 3245 the earth 776, and to say 559 to Zion 6726, ‘You are My people 5971a.’”

 51:17 ¶ Rouse 5782 yourself 5782! Rouse 5782 yourself 5782! Arise 6965, O Jerusalem 3389, You who 834 have drunk 8354 from the LORD’S 3068 hand 3027 the cup 3563a of His anger 2534; The chalice 3563a 6907 of reeling 8653 you have drained 4680 to the dregs 6907.

 51:18 There 369 is none 369 to guide 5095 her among 4480 all 3605 the sons 1121 she has borne 3205, Nor 369 is there 369 one 369 to take 2388 her by the hand 3027 among 4480 all 3605 the sons 1121 she has reared 1431.

 51:19 These 2007 two 8147 things 8147 have befallen 7122 you; Who 4310 will mourn 5110 for you? The devastation 7701 and destruction 7667, famine 7458 and sword 2719; How 4310 shall I comfort 5162 you?

 51:20 Your sons 1121 have fainted 5968, They lie 7901 [helpless] at the head 7218 of every 3605 street 2351, Like an antelope 8377 in a net 4364b, Full 4392 of the wrath 2534 of the LORD 3068, The rebuke 1606 of your God 430.

 51:21 ¶ Therefore 3651, please 4994 hear 8085 this 384, you afflicted 6041, Who are drunk 7937, but not with wine 3196:

 51:22 Thus 3541 says 559 your Lord 136, the LORD 3068, even your God 430 Who contends 7378 for His people 5971a, “Behold 2009, I have taken 3947 out of your hand 3027 the cup 3563a of reeling 8653, The chalice 3563a 6907 of My anger 2534; You will never 3808 drink 8354 it again 3254.

 51:23 “I will put 7760 it into the hand 3027 of your tormentors 3013, Who 834 have said 559 to you, ‘Lie 7812 down 7812 that we may walk 5674a over 5674a [you].’ You have even made 7760 your back 1460a like the ground 776 And like the street 2351 for those who walk 5674a over 5674a [it].”
