Isaiah 58
1 The prophet, being sent to reprove hypocrisy, 3 expresseth a conterfeit fast and a true. 8 He declareth what promises are due unto godliness, 13 and to the keeping of the Sabbath.
58:1
“Cry 7121 loudly 1627, do not hold 2820 back 2820; Raise 7311 your voice 6963 like a trumpet 7782, And declare 5046 to My people 5971a their transgression 6588 And to the house 1004 of Jacob 3290 their sins 2403b.
58:2
“Yet they seek 1875 Me day 3117 by day 3117 and delight 2654a to know 1847 My ways 1870, As a nation 1471 that has done 6213a righteousness 6666 And has not forsaken 5800a the ordinance 4941 of their God 430. They ask 7592 Me [for] just 6664 decisions 4941, They delight 2654a in the nearness 7132 of God 430.
58:3
‘Why 4100 have we fasted 6684 and You do not see 7200? [Why] have we humbled 6031a ourselves 5315 and You do not notice 3045?’ Behold 2005, on the day 3117 of your fast 6685 you find 4672 [your] desire 2656, And drive 5065 hard 5065 all 3605 your workers 6092.
58:4
“Behold 2005, you fast 6684 for contention 7379 and strife 4683 and to strike 5221 with a wicked 7562 fist 106. You do not fast 6684 like [you do] today 3117 to make 8085 your voice 6963 heard 8085 on high 4791.
58:5
“Is it a fast 6685 like this 2088 which I choose 977, a day 3117 for a man 120 to humble 6031a himself 5315? Is it for bowing 3721 one’s head 7218 like a reed 100 And for spreading 3331 out sackcloth 8242 and ashes 665 as a bed? Will you call 7121 this 2088 a fast 6685, even an acceptable 7522 day 3117 to the LORD 3068?
58:6
“Is this 2088 not the fast 6685 which I choose 977, To loosen 6605a the bonds 2784 of wickedness 7562, To undo 5425b the bands 92 of the yoke 4133, And to let 7971 the oppressed 7533 go 7971 free 2670 And break 5423 every 3605 yoke 4133?
58:7
“Is it not to divide 6536 your bread 3899 with the hungry 7457 And bring 935 the homeless 4788 poor 6041 into the house 1004; When 3588 you see 7200 the naked 6174, to cover 3680 him; And not to hide 5956 yourself from your own flesh 1320?
58:8
“Then 227 your light 216 will break 1234 out like the dawn 7837, And your recovery 724 will speedily 4120 spring 6779 forth 6779; And your righteousness 6664 will go 1980 before 6440 you; The glory 3519b of the LORD 3068 will be your rear 622 guard 622.
58:9
“Then 227 you will call 7121, and the LORD 3068 will answer 6030a; You will cry 7768, and He will say 559, ‘Here 2009 I am.’ If 518 you remove 5493 the yoke 4133 from your midst 8432, The pointing 7971 of the finger 676 and speaking 1696 wickedness 205,
58:10
And if you give 6329 yourself 5315 to the hungry 7457 And satisfy 7646 the desire 5315 of the afflicted 6031a, Then your light 216 will rise 2224 in darkness 2822 And your gloom 653 [will become] like midday 6672a.
58:11
“And the LORD 3068 will continually 8548 guide 5148 you, And satisfy 7646 your desire 5315 in scorched 6710 places 6710, And give 2502b strength 2502b to your bones 6106; And you will be like a watered 7302 garden 1588, And like a spring 4161 of water 4325 whose 834 waters 4325 do not fail 3576.
58:12
“Those from among you will rebuild 1129 the ancient 5769 ruins 2723; You will raise 6965 up the age-old 1755 foundations 4144; And you will be called 7121 the repairer 1443 of the breach 6556, The restorer 7725 of the streets 5410b in which to dwell 3427.
58:13
¶ “If 518 because 4480 of the sabbath 7676, you turn 7725 your foot 7272 From doing 6213a your [own] pleasure 2656 on My holy 6944 day 3117, And call 7121 the sabbath 7676 a delight 6027, the holy 6918 [day] of the LORD 3068 honorable 3513, And honor 3513 it, desisting 6213a from your [own] ways 1870, From seeking 4672 your [own] pleasure 2656 And speaking 1696 [your own] word 1697,
58:14
Then 227 you will take 6026 delight 6026 in the LORD 3068, And I will make you ride 7392 on the heights 1116 of the earth 776; And I will feed 398 you [with] the heritage 5159 of Jacob 3290 your father 1, For the mouth 6310 of the LORD 3068 has spoken 1696.”
