Exodus 33

1 The LORD refuseth to go as he had promised with the people. 4 The people murmur thereat. 7 The Tabernacle is removed out of the camp. 9 The LORD talketh familiarly with Moses. 12 Moses desireth to see the glory of God.

 33:1 Then the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872, “Depart 1980, go 5927 up from here 2088, you and the people 5971a whom 834 you have brought 5927 up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714, to the land 776 of which 834 I swore 7650 to Abraham 85, Isaac 3327, and Jacob 3290, saying 559, ‘To your descendants 2233 I will give 5414 it.’

 33:2 “I will send 7971 an angel 4397 before 6440 you and I will drive 1644 out the Canaanite 3669a, the Amorite 567, the Hittite 2850, the Perizzite 6522, the Hivite 2340 and the Jebusite 2983.

 33:3 “[Go up] to a land 776 flowing 2100 with milk 2461 and honey 1706; for I will not go 5927 up in your midst 7130, because 3588 you are an obstinate 7186 6203 people 5971a, and I might 6435 destroy 3615 you on the way 1870.”

 33:4 ¶ When the people 5971a heard 8085 this 2088 sad 7451a word 1697, they went 56 into mourning 56, and none 3808 376 of them put 7896 on his ornaments 5716.

 33:5 For the LORD 3068 had said 559 to Moses 4872, “Say 559 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, ‘You are an obstinate 7186 6203 people 5971a; should I go 5927 up in your midst 7130 for one 259 moment 7281, I would destroy 3615 you. Now 6258 therefore, put 3381 off 3381 your ornaments 5716 from you, that I may know 3045 what 4100 I shall do 6213a with you.’”

 33:6 So the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 stripped 5337 themselves of their ornaments 5716, from Mount 2022 Horeb 2722 [onward].

 33:7 ¶ Now Moses 4872 used to take 3947 the tent 168 and pitch 5186 it outside 4480 2351 the camp 4264, a good 7368 distance 7368 from the camp 4264, and he called 7121 it the tent 168 of meeting 4150. And everyone 3605 who sought 1245 the LORD 3068 would go 3318 out to the tent 168 of meeting 4150 which 834 was outside 4480 2351 the camp 4264.

 33:8 And it came 1961 about, whenever Moses 4872 went 3318 out to the tent 168, that all 3605 the people 5971a would arise 6965 and stand 5324, each 376 at the entrance 6607 of his tent 168, and gaze 5027 after 310 Moses 4872 until 5704 he entered 935 the tent 168.

 33:9 Whenever Moses 4872 entered 935 the tent 168, the pillar 5982 of cloud 6051 would descend 3381 and stand 5975 at the entrance 6607 of the tent 168; and the LORD would speak 1696 with Moses 4872.

 33:10 When all 3605 the people 5971a saw 7200 the pillar 5982 of cloud 6051 standing 5975 at the entrance 6607 of the tent 168, all 3605 the people 5971a would arise 6965 and worship 7812, each 376 at the entrance 6607 of his tent 168.

 33:11 Thus the LORD 3068 used to speak 1696 to Moses 4872 face 6440 to face 6440, just 3512c as a man 376 speaks 1696 to his friend 7453. When Moses returned 7725 to the camp 4264, his servant 8334 Joshua 3091, the son 1121 of Nun 5126, a young 5288 man 5288, would not depart 4185 from the tent 168.

 33:12 ¶ Then Moses 4872 said 559 to the LORD 3068, “See 7200, You say 559 to me, ‘Bring 5927 up this 2088 people 5971a!’ But You Yourself 859 have not let me know 3045 whom 834 You will send 7971 with me. Moreover, You have said 559, ‘I have known 3045 you by name 8034, and you have also 1571 found 4672 favor 2580 in My sight 5869.’

 33:13 “Now 6258 therefore, I pray 4994 You, if 518 I have found 4672 favor 2580 in Your sight 5869, let me know 3045 Your ways 1870 that I may know 3045 You, so 4616 that I may find 4672 favor 2580 in Your sight 5869. Consider 7200 too, that this 2088 nation 1471 is Your people 5971a.”

 33:14 And He said 559, “My presence 6440 shall go 1980 [with you], and I will give 5117 you rest 5117.”

 33:15 Then he said 559 to Him, “If 518 Your presence 6440 does not go 1980 [with us], do not lead 5927 us up from here 2088.

 33:16 “For how 4100 then 645 can it be known 3045 that I have found 4672 favor 2580 in Your sight 5869, I and Your people 5971a? Is it not by Your going 1980 with us, so that we, I and Your people 5971a, may be distinguished 6395 from all 3605 the [other] people 5971a who 834 are upon the face 6440 of the earth 127?”

 33:17 ¶ The LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872, “I will also 1571 do 6213a this 2088 thing 1697 of which 834 you have spoken 1696; for you have found 4672 favor 2580 in My sight 5869 and I have known 3045 you by name 8034.”

 33:18 Then Moses said 559, “I pray 4994 You, show 7200 me Your glory 3519b!”

 33:19 And He said 559, “I Myself 589 will make all 3605 My goodness 2898 pass 5674a before 5921 6440 you, and will proclaim 7121 the name 8034 of the LORD 3068 before 6440 you; and I will be gracious 2603a to whom 834 I will be gracious 2603a, and will show 7355 compassion 7355 on whom 834 I will show 7355 compassion 7355.”

 33:20 But He said 559, “You cannot 3201 3808 see 7200 My face 6440, for no 3808 man 120 can see 7200 Me and live 2421a!”

 33:21 Then the LORD 3068 said 559, “Behold 2009, there is a place 4725 by Me, and you shall stand 5324 [there] on the rock 6697;

 33:22 and it will come 1961 about, while My glory 3519b is passing 5674a by, that I will put 7760 you in the cleft 5366 of the rock 6697 and cover 7917b you with My hand 3709 until 5704 I have passed 5674a by.

 33:23 “Then I will take 5493 My hand 3709 away 5493 and you shall see 7200 My back 268, but My face 6440 shall not be seen 7200.”
