Exodus 32

1 The people, in the absence of Moses, cause Aaron to make a calf. 7 God is angered thereby. 11 At the intreaty of Moses he is appeased. 19 He breaketh them. 20 He destroyeth the calf. 22 Aaron's excuse for himself. 25 Moses causeth the idolaters to be slain. 30 He prayeth for the people.

 32:1 Now when the people 5971a saw 7200 that Moses 4872 delayed 954 to come 3381 down 3381 from the mountain 2022, the people 5971a assembled 6950 about 5921 Aaron 175 and said 559 to him, “Come 6965, make 6213a us a god 430 who 834 will go 1980 before 6440 us; as for this 2088 Moses 4872, the man 376 who 834 brought 5927 us up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714, we do not know 3045 what 4100 has become 1961 of him.”

 32:2 Aaron 175 said 559 to them, “Tear 6561 off 6561 the gold 2091 rings 5141 which 834 are in the ears 241 of your wives 802, your sons 1121, and your daughters 1323, and bring 935 [them] to me.”

 32:3 Then all 3605 the people 5971a tore 6561 off 6561 the gold 2091 rings 5141 which 834 were in their ears 241 and brought 935 [them] to Aaron 175.

 32:4 He took 3947 [this] from their hand 3027, and fashioned 6696c it with a graving 2747 tool 2747 and made 6213a it into a molten 4541a calf 5695; and they said 559, “This 428 is your god 430, O Israel 3478, who 834 brought 5927 you up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714.”

 32:5 Now when Aaron 175 saw 7200 [this], he built 1129 an altar 4196 before 6440 it; and Aaron 175 made 7121 a proclamation 7121 and said 559, “Tomorrow 4279 [shall be] a feast 2282 to the LORD 3068.”

 32:6 So the next 4283 day 4283 they rose 7965 early 7925 and offered 5927 burnt 5930a offerings 5930a, and brought 5066 peace 8002 offerings 8002; and the people 5971a sat 3427 down 3427 to eat 398 and to drink 8354, and rose 6925 up to play 6711.

 32:7 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872, “Go 1980 down 1980 3381 at once 3381, for your people 5971a, whom 834 you brought 5927 up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714, have corrupted 7843 [themselves].

 32:8 “They have quickly 4118b turned 5493 aside 5493 from the way 1870 which 834 I commanded 6680 them. They have made 6213a for themselves a molten 4541a calf 5695, and have worshiped 7812 it and have sacrificed 2076 to it and said 559, ‘This 428 is your god 430, O Israel 3478, who 834 brought 5927 you up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714!’”

 32:9 The LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872, “I have seen 7200 this 2088 people 5971a, and behold 2009, they are an obstinate 7186 6203 people 5971a.

 32:10 “Now 6258 then let 5117 Me alone 5117, that My anger 639 may burn 2734 against them and that I may destroy 3615 them; and I will make 6213a of you a great 1419 nation 1471.”

 32:11 ¶ Then Moses 4872 entreated 2470b the LORD 3068 his God 430, and said 559, “O LORD 3068, why 4100 does Your anger 639 burn 2734 against Your people 5971a whom 834 You have brought 3318 out from the land 776 of Egypt 4714 with great 1419 power 3581b and with a mighty 2389 hand 3027?

 32:12 “Why 4100 should the Egyptians 4714 speak 559, saying 559, ‘With evil 7463a [intent] He brought 3318 them out to kill 2026 them in the mountains 2022 and to destroy 3615 them from the face 6440 of the earth 127’? Turn 7725 from Your burning 2740 anger 639 and change 5162 Your mind 5162 about 5921 [doing] harm 7463a to Your people 5971a.

 32:13 “Remember 2142 Abraham 85, Isaac 3327, and Israel 3478, Your servants 5650 to whom 834 You swore 7650 by Yourself, and said 1696 to them, ‘I will multiply 7235a your descendants 2233 as the stars 3556 of the heavens 8064, and all 3605 this 2088 land 776 of which 834 I have spoken 559 I will give 5414 to your descendants 2233, and they shall inherit 5157 [it] forever 5769.’”

 32:14 So the LORD 3068 changed 5162 His mind 5162 about 5921 the harm 7463a which 834 He said 1696 He would do 6213a to His people 5971a.

 32:15 ¶ Then Moses 4872 turned 6437 and went 3381 down 3381 from the mountain 2022 with the two 8147 tablets 3871 of the testimony 5715 in his hand 3027, tablets 3871 which were written 3789 on both 8147 sides 5676; they were written 3789 on one 2088 [side] and the other 2088.

 32:16 The tablets 3871 were God’s 430 work 4639, and the writing 4385 was God’s 430 writing 4385 engraved 2801 on the tablets 3871.

 32:17 Now when Joshua 3091 heard 8085 the sound 6963 of the people 5971a as they shouted 7452, he said 559 to Moses 4872, “There is a sound 6963 of war 4421 in the camp 4264.”

 32:18 But he said 559, “It is not the sound 6963 of the cry 6031b of triumph 1369, Nor 369 is it the sound 6963 of the cry 6031b of defeat 2476; But the sound 6963 of singing 6031b I hear 8085.”

 32:19 It came 1961 about, as soon 3512c as Moses came 7126 near 7126 the camp 4264, that he saw 7200 the calf 5695 and [the] dancing 4246; and Moses’ 4872 anger 639 burned 2734, and he threw 7993 the tablets 3871 from his hands 3027 and shattered 7665 them at the foot 8478 of the mountain 2022.

 32:20 He took 3947 the calf 5695 which 834 they had made 6213a and burned 8313 [it] with fire 784, and ground 2912 it to powder 834 1854, and scattered 2219 it over 5921 the surface 6440 of the water 4325 and made the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 drink 8248 [it].

 32:21 ¶ Then Moses 4872 said 559 to Aaron 175, “What 4100 did this 2088 people 5971a do 6213a to you, that you have brought 935 [such] great 1419 sin 2401 upon them?”

 32:22 Aaron 175 said 559, “Do not let the anger 639 of my lord 113 burn 2734; you know 3045 the people 5971a yourself 859, that they are prone to evil 7451b.

 32:23 “For they said 559 to me, ‘Make 6213a a god 430 for us who 834 will go 1980 before 6440 us; for this 2088 Moses 4872, the man 376 who 834 brought 5927 us up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714, we do not know 3045 what 4100 has become 1961 of him.’

 32:24 “I said 559 to them, ‘Whoever 4310 has any gold 2091, let them tear 6561 it off 6561.’ So they gave 5414 [it] to me, and I threw 7993 it into the fire 784, and out came 3318 this 2088 calf 5695.”

 32:25 ¶ Now when Moses 4872 saw 7200 that the people 5971a were out of control 6544a—for Aaron 175 had let them get 6544a out of control 6544a to be a derision 8103 among their enemies 6965—

 32:26 then Moses 4872 stood 5975 in the gate 8179 of the camp 4264, and said 559, “Whoever 4310 is for the LORD 3068, [come] to me!” And all 3605 the sons 1121 of Levi 3878 gathered 622 together to him.

 32:27 He said 559 to them, “Thus 3541 says 1696 the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘Every 376 man 376 [of you] put 7760 his sword 2719 upon his thigh 3409, and go 5674a 7725 back 7725 and forth 5674a from gate 8179 to gate 8179 in the camp 4264, and kill 2026 every 376 man 376 his brother 251, and every 376 man 376 his friend 7453, and every 376 man 376 his neighbor 7453.’”

 32:28 So the sons 1121 of Levi 3878 did 6213a as Moses 4872 instructed 1697, and about three 7969 thousand 505 men 376 of the people 5971a fell 5307 that day 3117.

 32:29 Then Moses 4872 said 559, “Dedicate 4390 yourselves 3027 today 3117 to the LORD 3068—for every 376 man 376 has been against his son 1121 and against his brother 251—in order that He may bestow 5414 a blessing 1293 upon you today 3117.”

 32:30 ¶ On the next 4283 day 4283 Moses 4872 said 559 to the people 5971a, “You yourselves 864b have committed 2398 a great 1419 sin 2401; and now 6258 I am going 5927 up to the LORD 3068, perhaps 194 I can make 3722a atonement 3722a for your sin 2403b.”

 32:31 Then Moses 4872 returned 7725 to the LORD 3068, and said 559, “Alas 577, this 2088 people 5971a has committed 2398 a great 1419 sin 2401, and they have made 6213a a god 430 of gold 2091 for themselves.

 32:32 “But now 6258, if 518 You will, forgive 5375 their sin 2403b—and if 518 not, please 4994 blot 4229a me out from Your book 5612 which 834 You have written 3789!”

 32:33 The LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872, “Whoever 4310 834 has sinned 2398 against Me, I will blot 4229a him out of My book 5612.

 32:34 “But go 1980 now 6258, lead 5148 the people 5971a where 413 834 I told 1696 you. Behold 2009, My angel 4397 shall go 1980 before 6440 you; nevertheless in the day 3117 when I punish 6485, I will punish 6485 them for their sin 2403b.”

 32:35 Then the LORD 3068 smote 5062 the people 5971a, because 5921 834 of what 834 they did 6213a with the calf 5695 which 834 Aaron 175 had made 6213a.
