Exodus 20

1 The Ten Commandments. 18 The people are afraid. 20 Moses comforteth them. 22 Idolatry is forbidden. 24 Of what sort the altar should be.

 20:1 Then God 430 spoke 1696 all 3605 these 428 words 1697, saying 559,

 20:2 ¶ “I am the LORD 3068 your God 430, who 834 brought 3318 you out of the land 776 of Egypt 4714, out of the house 1004 of slavery 5650.

 20:3 ¶ “You shall have 1961 no 3808 other 312 gods 430 before 5921 6440 Me.

 20:4 ¶ “You shall not make 6213a for yourself an idol 6459, or any 3605 likeness 8544 of what 834 is in heaven 8064 above 4480 4605 or on the earth 776 beneath 8478 or in the water 4325 under 8478 the earth 776.

 20:5 “You shall not worship 7812 them or serve 5647 them; for I, the LORD 3068 your God 430, am a jealous 7067 God 410, visiting 6485 the iniquity 5771 of the fathers 1 on the children 1121, on the third 8029 and the fourth 7256 generations of those who hate 8130 Me,

 20:6 but showing 6213a lovingkindness 2617a to thousands 505, to those who love 157 Me and keep 8104 My commandments 4687.

 20:7 ¶ “You shall not take 5375 the name 8034 of the LORD 3068 your God 430 in vain 7723, for the LORD 3068 will not leave 5352 him unpunished 5352 who 834 takes 5375 His name 8034 in vain 7723.

 20:8 ¶ “Remember 2142 the sabbath 7676 day 3117, to keep 6942 it holy 6942.

 20:9 “Six 8337a days 3117 you shall labor 5647 and do 6213a all 3605 your work 4399,

 20:10 but the seventh 7637 day 3117 is a sabbath 7676 of the LORD 3068 your God 430; [in it] you shall not do 6213a any 3605 work 4399, you or your son 1121 or your daughter 1323, your male 5650 or your female 519 servant 5650 519 or your cattle 929 or your sojourner 1616 who 834 stays with you.

 20:11 “For in six 8337a days 3117 the LORD 3068 made 6213a the heavens 8064 and the earth 776, the sea 3220 and all 3605 that is in them, and rested 5117 on the seventh 7637 day 3117; therefore 5921 3651 the LORD 3068 blessed 1288 the sabbath 7676 day 3117 and made 6942 it holy 6942.

 20:12 ¶ “Honor 3513 your father 1 and your mother 517, that your days 3117 may be prolonged 748 in the land 127 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 gives 5414 you.

 20:13 ¶ “You shall not murder 7523.

 20:14 ¶ “You shall not commit 5003 adultery 5003.

 20:15 ¶ “You shall not steal 1589.

 20:16 ¶ “You shall not bear 6030a false 8267 witness 5707 against your neighbor 7453.

 20:17 ¶ “You shall not covet 2530 your neighbor’s 7453 house 1004; you shall not covet 2530 your neighbor’s 7453 wife 802 or his male 5650 servant 5650 or his female 519 servant 519 or his ox 7794 or his donkey 2543 or anything 3605 that belongs to your neighbor 7453.”

 20:18 ¶ All 3605 the people 5971a perceived 7200 the thunder 6963 and the lightning 3940 flashes 3940 and the sound 6963 of the trumpet 7782 and the mountain 2022 smoking 6226; and when the people 5971a saw 7200 [it], they trembled 5128 and stood 5975 at a distance 7350.

 20:19 Then they said 559 to Moses 4872, “Speak 1696 to us yourself 859 and we will listen 8085; but let not God 430 speak 1696 to us, or 6435 we will die 4191.”

 20:20 Moses 4872 said 559 to the people 5971a, “Do not be afraid 3372a; for God 430 has come 935 in order 5668 to test 5254 you, and in order 5668 that the fear 3374 of Him may remain 1961 6440 with you, so that you may not sin 2398.”

 20:21 So the people 5971a stood 5975 at a distance 7350, while Moses 4872 approached 5066 the thick 6205 cloud 6205 where 834 8033 God 430 [was].

 20:22 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872, “Thus 3541 you shall say 559 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, ‘You yourselves 864b have seen 7200 that I have spoken 1696 to you from heaven 8064.

 20:23 ‘You shall not make 6213a [other gods] besides 854 Me; gods 430 of silver 3701 or gods 430 of gold 2091, you shall not make 6213a for yourselves 864b.

 20:24 ‘You shall make 6213a an altar 4196 of earth 127 for Me, and you shall sacrifice 2076 on it your burnt 5930a offerings 5930a and your peace 8002 offerings 8002, your sheep 6629 and your oxen 1241; in every 3605 place 4725 where 834 I cause My name 8034 to be remembered 2142, I will come 935 to you and bless 1288 you.

 20:25 ‘If 518 you make 6213a an altar 4196 of stone 68 for Me, you shall not build 1129 it of cut 1496 stones 1496, for if you wield 5130 your tool 2719 on it, you will profane 2490c it.

 20:26 ‘And you shall not go 5927 up by steps 4609b to My altar 4196, so 834 that your nakedness 6172 will not be exposed 1540 on it.’
