Exodus 17

1 The people murmur for water at Rephidim. 5 God sendeth them for water to the rock in Horeb. 8 Amalek is overcome by the holding up of Moses' hands. 15 Moses buildeth the altar JEHOVAH-nissi.

 17:1 Then all 3605 the congregation 5712 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 journeyed 5265 by stages 4550 from the wilderness 4057b of Sin 5512b, according 5921 to the command 6310 of the LORD 3068, and camped 2583 at Rephidim 7508, and there 369 was no 369 water 4325 for the people 5971a to drink 8354.

 17:2 Therefore the people 5971a quarreled 7378 with Moses 4872 and said 559, “Give 5414 us water 4325 that we may drink 8354.” And Moses 4872 said 559 to them, “Why 4100 do you quarrel 7378 with me? Why 4100 do you test 5254 the LORD 3068?”

 17:3 But the people 5971a thirsted 6770 there 8033 for water 4325; and they grumbled 3885b against 5921 Moses 4872 and said 559, “Why 4100, now 2088, have you brought 5927 us up from Egypt 4714, to kill 4191 us and our children 1121 and our livestock 4735 with thirst 6772?”

 17:4 So Moses 4872 cried 6817 out to the LORD 3068, saying 559, “What 4100 shall I do 6213a to this 2088 people 5971a? A little 4592 more 5750 and they will stone 5619 me.”

 17:5 Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872, “Pass 5674a before 6440 the people 5971a and take 3947 with you some 4480 of the elders 2205 of Israel 3478; and take 3947 in your hand 3027 your staff 4294 with which 834 you struck 5221 the Nile 2975, and go 1980.

 17:6 “Behold 2009, I will stand 5975 before 6440 you there 8033 on the rock 6697 at Horeb 2722; and you shall strike 5221 the rock 6697, and water 4325 will come 3318 out of it, that the people 5971a may drink 8354.” And Moses 4872 did 6213a so 3651 in the sight 5869 of the elders 2205 of Israel 3478.

 17:7 He named 7121 8034 the place 4725 Massah 4532 and Meribah 4809 because 5921 of the quarrel 7379 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, and because 5921 they tested 5254 the LORD 3068, saying 559, “Is the LORD 3068 among 7130 us, or 518 not?”

 17:8 ¶ Then Amalek 6002 came 935 and fought 3898a against 5973 Israel 3478 at Rephidim 7508.

 17:9 So Moses 4872 said 559 to Joshua 3091, “Choose 977 men 376 for us and go 3318 out, fight 3898a against Amalek 6002. Tomorrow 4279 I will station 5324 myself 5324 on the top 7218 of the hill 1389 with the staff 4294 of God 430 in my hand 3027.”

 17:10 Joshua 3091 did 6213a as Moses 4872 told 559 him, and fought 3898a against Amalek 6002; and Moses 4872, Aaron 175, and Hur 2354 went 5927 up to the top 7218 of the hill 1389.

 17:11 So it came 1961 about when 3512c Moses 4872 held 7311 his hand 3027 up, that Israel 3478 prevailed 1396, and when 3512c he let his hand 3027 down 5117, Amalek 6002 prevailed 1396.

 17:12 But Moses’ hands 3027 were heavy 3515. Then they took 3947 a stone 68 and put 7760 it under 8478 him, and he sat 3427 on it; and Aaron 175 and Hur 2354 supported 8551 his hands 3027, one 259 on one 2088 side 2088 and one 259 on the other 2088. Thus his hands 3027 were steady 530 until 5704 the sun 8121 set 935.

 17:13 So Joshua 3091 overwhelmed 2522 Amalek 6002 and his people 5971a with the edge 6310 of the sword 2719.

 17:14 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872, “Write 3789 this 2088 in a book 5612 as a memorial 2146 and recite 7760 241 it to Joshua 3091, that I will utterly 4229a blot 4229a out the memory 2143 of Amalek 6002 from under 8478 heaven 8064.”

 17:15 Moses 4872 built 1129 an altar 4196 and named 7121 8034 it The LORD 3068 is My Banner 5251;

 17:16 and he said 559, “The LORD 3050 has sworn 3027 5921 3678; the LORD 3068 will have war 4421 against Amalek 6002 from generation 1755 to generation 1755.”
