וַיְהִי שֶׁם־בְּנוֹ הַבְּכוֹר יוֹאֵל וְשֵׁם מִשְׁנֵהוּ אֲבִיָּה שֹׁפְטִים בִּבְאֵר שָׁבַע

וְלֹא־הָלְכוּ בָנָיו *בְּדַרְכוֹ [בִּדְרָכָיו] וַיִּטּוּ אַחֲרֵי הַבָּצַע וַיִּקְחוּ־שֹׁחַד וַיַּטּוּ מִשְׁפָּט פ

 8:3 w'lo-häl'khû vänäyw *B'dar'khô [Bid'räkhäyw] waYiŢû achárëy haBätza waYiq'chû-shochad waYaŢû mish'Päţ f

 8:3 And his sons 1121 walked 1980 z8804 not x3808 in his ways, 1870 but turned aside 5186 z8799 after 310 lucre, 1215 and took 3947 z8799 bribes, 7810 and perverted 5186 z8686 judgment. 4941

וַיִּתְקַבְּצוּ כֹּל זִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵל הָרָמָתָה

 8:4 waYit'qaB'tzû Kol ziq'nëy yis'räël waYävoû el-sh'mûël härämätäh

וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו הִנֵּה אַתָּה זָקַנְתָּ וּבָנֶיךָ לֹא הָלְכוּ בִּדְרָכֶיךָ עַתָּה שִׂימָה־לָּנוּ מֶלֶךְ לְשָׁפְטֵנוּ כְּכָל־הַגּוֹיִם

וַיֵּרַע הַדָּבָר בְּעֵינֵי שְׁמוּאֵל כַּאֲשֶׁר אָמְרוּ תְּנָה־לָּנוּ מֶלֶךְ לְשָׁפְטֵנוּ וַיִּתְפַּלֵּל שְׁמוּאֵל אֶל־יְהוָה פ

 8:6 waYëra haDävär B'ëynëy sh'mûël Kaásher äm'rû T'näh-Länû melekh' l'shäf'ţënû waYit'PaLël sh'mûël el-y'hwäh f

 8:6 ¶ But the thing 1697 displeased 3415 5869 z8799 Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל, 8050 when x834 they said, 559 z8804 Give 5414 z8798 us a king 4428 to judge 8199 z8800 us. And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל 8050 prayed 6419 z8691 unto x413 Yähwè יָהוֶה. 3068

וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵל שְׁמַע בְּקוֹל הָעָם לְכֹל אֲשֶׁר־יֹאמְרוּ אֵלֶיךָ כִּי לֹא אֹתְךָ מָאָסוּ כִּי־אֹתִי מָאֲסוּ מִמְּלֹךְ עֲלֵיהֶם

 8:7 waYomer y'hwäh el-sh'mûël sh'ma B'qôl hääm l'khol ásher-yom'rû ëleykhä Kiy lo ot'khä määšû Kiy-otiy mäášû miM'lokh' álëyhem

 8:7 And Yähwè יָהוֶה 3068 said 559 z8799 unto x413 Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל, 8050 Hearken 8085 z8798 unto the voice 6963 of the people 5971 in all x3605 that x834 they say 559 z8799 unto x413 thee: for x3588 they have not x3808 rejected 3988 z8804 thee, but x3588 they have rejected 3988 z8804 me, that I should not reign 4427 z8800 x4480 over x5921 them.

כְּכָל־הַמַּעֲשִׂים אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂוּ מִיּוֹם הַעֲלֹתִי אֹתָם מִמִּצְרַיִם וְעַד־הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה וַיַּעַזְבֻנִי וַיַּעַבְדוּ אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים כֵּן הֵמָּה עֹשִׂים גַּם־לָךְ

 8:8 K'khäl-haMaásiym ásher-äsû miYôm haálotiy otäm miMitz'rayim w'ad-haYôm haZeh waYaaz'vuniy waYaav'dû élohiym áchëriym Kën hëMäh osiym Gam-läkh'

וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל אֵת כָּל־דִּבְרֵי יְהוָה אֶל־הָעָם הַשֹּׁאֲלִים מֵאִתּוֹ מֶלֶךְ ס

 8:10 waYomer sh'mûël ët Käl-Div'rëy y'hwäh el-hääm haSHoáliym mëiTô melekh' š

 8:10 ¶ And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל 8050 told 559 z8799 all x3605 the words 1697 of Yähwè יָהוֶה 3068 unto x413 the people 5971 that asked 7592 z8802 of x4480 x854 him a king. 4428

וַיֹּאמֶר זֶה יִהְיֶה מִשְׁפַּט הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר יִמְלֹךְ עֲלֵיכֶם אֶת־בְּנֵיכֶם יִקָּח וְשָׂם לוֹ בְּמֶרְכַּבְתּוֹ וּבְפָרָשָׁיו וְרָצוּ לִפְנֵי מֶרְכַּבְתּוֹ

 8:11 waYomer zeh yih'yeh mish'Paţ haMelekh' ásher yim'lokh' álëykhem et-B'nëykhem yiQäch w'säm lô B'mer'Kav'Tô ûv'färäshäyw w'rätzû lif'nëy mer'Kav'Tô

 8:11 And he said, 559 z8799 This x2088 will be x1961 the manner 4941 of the king 4428 that x834 shall reign 4427 z8799 over x5921 you: He will take 3947 z8799 x853 your sons, 1121 and appoint 7760 z8804 [them] for himself, for his chariots, 4818 and [to be] his horsemen; 6571 and [some] shall run 7323 z8804 before 6440 his chariots. 4818

וְלָשׂוּם לוֹ שָׂרֵי אֲלָפִים וְשָׂרֵי חֲמִשִּׁים וְלַחֲרֹשׁ חֲרִישׁוֹ וְלִקְצֹר קְצִירוֹ וְלַעֲשׂוֹת כְּלֵי־מִלְחַמְתּוֹ וּכְלֵי רִכְבּוֹ

 8:12 w'läsûm lô särëy áläfiym w'särëy chámiSHiym w'lachárosh cháriyshô w'liq'tzor q'tziyrô w'laásôt K'lëy-mil'cham'Tô ûkh'lëy rikh'Bô

 8:12 And he will appoint 7760 z8800 him captains 8269 over thousands, 505 and captains 8269 over fifties; 2572 and [will set them] to ear 2790 z8800 his ground, 2758 and to reap 7114 z8800 his harvest, 7105 and to make 6213 z8800 his instruments 3627 of war, 4421 and instruments 3627 of his chariots. 7393

וְאֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיכֶם יִקָּח לְרַקָּחוֹת וּלְטַבָּחוֹת וּלְאֹפוֹת

 8:13 w'et-B'nôtëykhem yiQäch l'raQächôt ûl'ţaBächôt ûl'ofôt

 8:13 And he will take 3947 z8799 your daughters 1323 [to be] confectionaries, 7548 and [to be] cooks, 2879 and [to be] bakers. 644 z8802

וְאֶת־שְׂדוֹתֵיכֶם וְאֶת־כַּרְמֵיכֶם וְזֵיתֵיכֶם הַטּוֹבִים יִקָּח וְנָתַן לַעֲבָדָיו

 8:14 w'et-s'dôtëykhem w'et-Kar'mëykhem w'zëytëykhem haŢôviym yiQäch w'nätan laávädäyw

 8:14 And he will take 3947 z8799 your fields, 7704 and your vineyards, 3754 and your oliveyards, 2132 [even] the best 2896 [of them], and give 5414 z8804 [them] to his servants. 5650

וְזַרְעֵיכֶם וְכַרְמֵיכֶם יַעְשֹׂר וְנָתַן לְסָרִיסָיו וְלַעֲבָדָיו

 8:15 w'zar'ëykhem w'khar'mëykhem ya'sor w'nätan l'šäriyšäyw w'laávädäyw

 8:15 And he will take the tenth 6237 z8799 of your seed, 2233 and of your vineyards, 3754 and give 5414 z8804 to his officers, 5631 and to his servants. 5650

וְאֶת־עַבְדֵיכֶם וְאֶת־שִׁפְחוֹתֵיכֶם וְאֶת־בַּחוּרֵיכֶם הַטּוֹבִים וְאֶת־חֲמוֹרֵיכֶם יִקָּח וְעָשָׂה לִמְלַאכְתּוֹ

 8:16 w'et-av'dëykhem w'et-shif'chôtëykhem w'et-Bachûrëykhem haŢôviym w'et-chámôrëykhem yiQäch w'äsäh lim'lakh'Tô

 8:16 And he will take 3947 z8799 your menservants, 5650 and your maidservants, 8198 and your goodliest 2896 young men, 970 and your asses, 2543 and put 6213 z8804 [them] to his work. 4399

צֹאנְכֶם יַעְשֹׂר וְאַתֶּם תִּהְיוּ־לוֹ לַעֲבָדִים

 8:17 tzon'khem ya'sor w'aTem Tih'yû-lô laávädiym

 8:17 He will take the tenth 6237 z8799 of your sheep: 6629 and ye x859 shall be x1961 his servants. 5650

וּזְעַקְתֶּם בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא מִלִּפְנֵי מַלְכְּכֶם אֲשֶׁר בְּחַרְתֶּם לָכֶם וְלֹא־יַעֲנֶה יְהוָה אֶתְכֶם בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא

 8:18 ûz'aq'Tem BaYôm hahû miLif'nëy mal'K'khem ásher B'char'Tem läkhem w'lo-yaáneh y'hwäh et'khem BaYôm hahû

 8:18 And ye shall cry out 2199 z8804 in that x1931 day 3117 because 6440 x4480 of your king 4428 which x834 ye shall have chosen 977 z8804 you; and Yähwè יָהוֶה 3068 will not x3808 hear 6030 z8799 you in that x1931 day. 3117

וַיְמָאֲנוּ הָעָם לִשְׁמֹעַ בְּקוֹל שְׁמוּאֵל וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹּא כִּי אִם־מֶלֶךְ יִהְיֶה עָלֵינוּ

 8:19 way'mäánû hääm lish'moª B'qôl sh'mûël waYom'rû Lo Kiy im-melekh' yih'yeh älëynû

 8:19 ¶ Nevertheless the people 5971 refused 3985 z8762 to obey 8085 z8800 the voice 6963 of Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל; 8050 and they said, 559 z8799 Nay; x3808 but x3588 x518 we will have x1961 a king 4428 over x5921 us;

וְהָיִינוּ גַם־אֲנַחְנוּ כְּכָל־הַגּוֹיִם וּשְׁפָטָנוּ מַלְכֵּנוּ וְיָצָא לְפָנֵינוּ וְנִלְחַם אֶת־מִלְחֲמֹתֵנוּ

 8:20 w'häyiynû gam-ánach'nû K'khäl-haGôyim ûsh'fäţänû mal'Kënû w'yätzä l'fänëynû w'nil'cham et-mil'chámotënû

 8:20 That we x587 also x1571 may be x1961 like all x3605 the nations; 1471 and that our king 4428 may judge 8199 z8804 us, and go out 3318 z8804 before 6440 us, and fight 3898 z8738 x853 our battles. 4421

וַיִּשְׁמַע שְׁמוּאֵל אֵת כָּל־דִּבְרֵי הָעָם וַיְדַבְּרֵם בְּאָזְנֵי יְהוָה פ

 8:21 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל 8050 heard 8085 z8799 x853 all x3605 the words 1697 of the people, 5971 and he rehearsed 1696 z8762 them in the ears 241 of Yähwè יָהוֶה. 3068

וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵל שְׁמַע בְּקוֹלָם וְהִמְלַכְתָּ לָהֶם מֶלֶךְ וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל אֶל־אַנְשֵׁי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְכוּ אִישׁ לְעִירוֹ פ

 8:22 waYomer y'hwäh el-sh'mûël sh'ma B'qôläm w'him'lakh'Tä lähem melekh' waYomer sh'mûël el-an'shëy yis'räël l'khû iysh l'iyrô f

 8:22 And Yähwè יָהוֶה 3068 said 559 z8799 to x413 Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל, 8050 Hearken 8085 z8798 unto their voice, 6963 and make y4427 z8689 them a king. 4428 x4427 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל 8050 said 559 z8799 unto x413 the men y582 x376 of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל, 3478 Go y3212 z8798 x1980 ye every man 376 unto his city. 5892
