Genesis 31

1 Jacob upon displeasure departeth secretly. 19 Rachel stealeth her father's images. 22 Laban pursueth after Jacob, 26 and complaineth of the wrong. 34 Rachel's policy to hide the images. 36 Jacob's complaint of Laban. 43 The covenant of Laban and Jacob at Galeed.

 31:1 Now Jacob heard 8085 the words 1697 of Laban’s 3837a sons 1121, saying 559, “Jacob 3290 has taken 3947 away all 3605 that was our father’s 1, and from what 834 belonged to our father 1 he has made 6213a all 3605 this 2088 wealth 3519b.”

 31:2 Jacob 3290 saw 7200 the attitude 6440 of Laban 3837a, and behold 2009, it was not [friendly] toward 5973 him as formerly 8543.

 31:3 Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to Jacob 3290, “Return 7725 to the land 776 of your fathers 1 and to your relatives 4138, and I will be with you.”

 31:4 So Jacob 3290 sent 7971 and called 7121 Rachel 7354 and Leah 3812 to his flock 6629 in the field 7704,

 31:5 and said 559 to them, “I see 7200 your father’s 1 attitude 6440, that it is not [friendly] toward 413 me as formerly 8543, but the God 430 of my father 1 has been 1961 with me.

 31:6 “You know 3045 that I have served 5647 your father 1 with all 3605 my strength 3581b.

 31:7 “Yet your father 1 has cheated 8524 me and changed 2498 my wages 4909 ten 6235 times 4489; however, God 430 did not allow 5414 him to hurt 7489a me.

 31:8 “If 518 he spoke 559 thus 3541, ‘The speckled 5348 shall be your wages 7939,’ then all 3605 the flock 6629 brought 3205 forth 3205 speckled 5348; and if 518 he spoke 559 thus 3541, ‘The striped 6124 shall be your wages 7939,’ then all 3605 the flock 6629 brought 3205 forth 3205 striped 6124.

 31:9 “Thus God 430 has taken 5337 away 5337 your father’s 1 livestock 4735 and given 5414 [them] to me.

 31:10 “And it came 1961 about at the time 6256 when the flock 6629 were mating 3179 that I lifted 5375 up my eyes 5869 and saw 7200 in a dream 2472, and behold 2009, the male 6260 goats 6260 which were mating 5927 [were] striped 6124, speckled 5348, and mottled 1261.

 31:11 “Then the angel 4397 of God 430 said 559 to me in the dream 2472, ‘Jacob 3290,’ and I said 559, ‘Here 2009 I am.’

 31:12 “He said 559, ‘Lift 5375 up now 4994 your eyes 5869 and see 7200 [that] all 3605 the male 6260 goats 6260 which are mating 5927 are striped 6124, speckled 5348, and mottled 1261; for I have seen 7200 all 3605 that Laban 3837a has been doing 6213a to you.

 31:13 ‘I am the God 410 [of] Bethel 1008, where 834 8033 you anointed 4886 a pillar 4676, where 834 8033 you made 5087 a vow 5088 to Me; now 6258 arise 6965, leave 3318 this 2088 land 776, and return 7725 to the land 776 of your birth 4138.’”

 31:14 Rachel 7354 and Leah 3812 said 559 to him, “Do we still 5750 have any portion 2506 or inheritance 5159 in our father’s 1 house 1004?

 31:15 “Are we not reckoned 2803 by him as foreigners 5237? For he has sold 4376 us, and has also 1571 entirely 398 consumed 398 our purchase 3701 price 3701.

 31:16 “Surely 3588 all 3605 the wealth 6239 which 834 God 430 has taken 5337 away 5337 from our father 1 belongs to us and our children 1121; now 6258 then, do 6213a whatever 3605 834 God 430 has said 559 to you.”

 31:17 ¶ Then Jacob 3290 arose 6965 and put 5375 his children 1121 and his wives 802 upon camels 1581;

 31:18 and he drove 5090a away 5090a all 3605 his livestock 4735 and all 3605 his property 7399 which 834 he had gathered 7408, his acquired 7075 livestock 4735 which 834 he had gathered 7408 in Paddan-aram 6307, to go 935 to the land 776 of Canaan 3667a to his father 1 Isaac 3327.

 31:19 When Laban 3837a had gone 1980 to shear 1494 his flock 6629, then Rachel 7354 stole 1589 the household 8655 idols 8655 that were her father’s 1.

 31:20 And Jacob 3290 deceived 1589 Laban 3837a the Aramean 761 by not telling 5046 him that he was fleeing 1272.

 31:21 So he fled 1272 with all 3605 that he had; and he arose 6965 and crossed 5674a the [Euphrates] River 5104, and set 7760 his face 6440 toward the hill 2022 country 2022 of Gilead 1568.

 31:22 ¶ When it was told 5046 Laban 3837a on the third 7992 day 3117 that Jacob 3290 had fled 1272,

 31:23 then he took 3947 his kinsmen 251 with him and pursued 7291 him [a distance of] seven 7651 days’ 3117 journey 1870, and he overtook 1692 him in the hill 2022 country 2022 of Gilead 1568.

 31:24 God 430 came 935 to Laban 3837a the Aramean 761 in a dream 2472 of the night 3915 and said 559 to him, “Be careful 8104 that you do not speak 1696 to Jacob 3290 either 4480 good 2896a or 5704 bad 7451a.”

 31:25 ¶ Laban 3837a caught 5381 up with Jacob 3290. Now Jacob 3290 had pitched 8628 his tent 168 in the hill 2022 country 2022, and Laban 3837a with his kinsmen 251 camped 8628 in the hill 2022 country 2022 of Gilead 1568.

 31:26 Then Laban 3837a said 559 to Jacob 3290, “What 4100 have you done 6213a by deceiving 1589 me and carrying 5090a away 5090a my daughters 1323 like captives 7617 of the sword 2719?

 31:27 “Why 4100 did you flee 1272 secretly 2244 and deceive 1589 me, and did not tell 5046 me so that I might have sent 7971 you away 7971 with joy 8057 and with songs 7892a, with timbrel 8596 and with lyre 3658;

 31:28 and did not allow 5203 me to kiss 5401a my sons 1121 and my daughters 1323? Now 6258 you have done 5528 6213a foolishly 5528.

 31:29 “It is in my power 3027 to do 6213a you harm 7451b, but the God 430 of your father 1 spoke 559 to me last 570 night 570, saying 559, ‘Be careful 8104 not to speak 1696 either 4480 good 2896a or 5704 bad 7451a to Jacob 3290.’

 31:30 “Now 6258 you have indeed 1980 gone 1980 away because 3588 you longed 3700 greatly 3700 for your father’s 1 house 1004; [but] why 4100 did you steal 1589 my gods 430?”

 31:31 Then Jacob 3290 replied 6030a to Laban 3837a, “Because 3588 I was afraid 3372a, for I thought 559 that you would take 1497 your daughters 1323 from me by force 1497.

 31:32 “The one with whom 834 you find 4672 your gods 430 shall not live 2421a; in the presence 5048 of our kinsmen 251 point 5234 out what 4100 is yours among 5973 my belongings 5973 and take 3947 [it] for yourself.” For Jacob 3290 did not know 3045 that Rachel 7354 had stolen 1589 them.

 31:33 ¶ So Laban 3837a went 935 into Jacob’s 3290 tent 168 and into Leah’s 3812 tent 168 and into the tent 168 of the two 8147 maids 519, but he did not find 4672 [them]. Then he went 3318 out of Leah’s 3812 tent 168 and entered 935 Rachel’s 7354 tent 168.

 31:34 Now Rachel 7354 had taken 3947 the household 8655 idols 8655 and put 7760 them in the camel’s 1581 saddle 3733a, and she sat 3427 on them. And Laban 3837a felt 4959 through 4959 all 3605 the tent 168 but did not find 4672 [them].

 31:35 She said 559 to her father 1, “Let not my lord 113 be angry 2734 that I cannot 3201 3808 rise 6965 before 4480 6440 you, for the manner 1870 of women 802 is upon me.” So he searched 2664 but did not find 4672 the household 8655 idols 8655.

 31:36 ¶ Then Jacob 3290 became 2734 angry 2734 and contended 7378 with Laban 3837a; and Jacob 3290 said 559 to Laban 3837a, “What 4100 is my transgression 6588? What 4100 is my sin 2403b that you have hotly 1814 pursued 1814 me?

 31:37 “Though 3588 you have felt 4959 through 4959 all 3605 my goods 3627, what 4100 have you found 4672 of all 3605 your household 1004 goods 3627? Set 7760 [it] here 3541 before 5048 my kinsmen 251 and your kinsmen 251, that they may decide 3198 between 996 us two 8147.

 31:38 “These 2088 twenty 6242 years 8141 I [have been] with you; your ewes 7353 and your female 5795 goats 5795 have not miscarried 7921, nor 3808 have I eaten 398 the rams 352a of your flocks 6629.

 31:39 “That which was torn 2966 [of beasts] I did not bring 935 to you; I bore 2398 the loss 2398 of it myself 595. You required 1245 it of my hand 3027 [whether] stolen 1589 by day 3117 or stolen 1589 by night 3915.

 31:40 “[Thus] I was: by day 3117 the heat 2721a consumed 398 me and the frost 7140 by night 3915, and my sleep 8142 fled 5074 from my eyes 5869.

 31:41 “These 2088 twenty 6242 years 8141 I have been in your house 1004; I served 5647 you fourteen 702 6240 years 8141 for your two 8147 daughters 1323 and six 8337a years 8141 for your flock 6629, and you changed 2498 my wages 4909 ten 6235 times 4489.

 31:42 “If 3884a the God 430 of my father 1, the God 430 of Abraham 85, and the fear 6343 of Isaac 3327, had 1961 not been 1961 for me, surely 3588 now 6258 you would have sent 7971 me away 7971 empty-handed 7387. God 430 has seen 7200 my affliction 6040a and the toil 3018 of my hands 3709, so He rendered 3198 judgment 3198 last 570 night 570.”

 31:43 ¶ Then Laban 3837a replied 6030a to Jacob 3290, “The daughters 1323 are my daughters 1323, and the children 1121 are my children 1121, and the flocks 6629 are my flocks 6629, and all 3605 that you see 7200 is mine. But what 4100 can I do 6213a this day 3117 to these 428 my daughters 1323 or 176 to their children 1121 whom 834 they have borne 3205?

 31:44 “So now 6258 come 1980, let us make 3772 a covenant 1285, you and I, and let it be a witness 5707 between 996 you and me.”

 31:45 Then Jacob 3290 took 3947 a stone 68 and set 7311 it up [as] a pillar 4676.

 31:46 Jacob 3290 said 559 to his kinsmen 251, “Gather 3950 stones 68.” So they took 3947 stones 68 and made 6213a a heap 1530, and they ate 398 there 8033 by the heap 1530.

 31:47 Now Laban 3837a called 7121 it Jegar-sahadutha 3026, but Jacob 3290 called 7121 it Galeed 1567.

 31:48 Laban 3837a said 559, “This 2088 heap 1530 is a witness 5707 between 996 you and me this day 3117.” Therefore 5921 3651 it was named 7121 8034 Galeed 1567,

 31:49 and Mizpah 4709, for he said 559, “May the LORD 3068 watch 6822 between 996 you and me when 3588 we are absent 5641 one 376 from the other 7453.

 31:50 “If 518 you mistreat 6031a my daughters 1323, or if 518 you take 3947 wives 802 besides 5921 my daughters 1323, [although] no 369 man 376 is with us, see 7200, God 430 is witness 5707 between 996 you and me.”

 31:51 Laban 3837a said 559 to Jacob 3290, “Behold 2009 this 2088 heap 1530 and behold 2009 the pillar 4676 which 834 I have set 3384 between 996 you and me.

 31:52 “This 2088 heap 1530 is a witness 5707, and the pillar 4676 is a witness 5713a, that I will not pass 5674a by this 2088 heap 1530 to you for harm, and you will not pass 5674a by this 2088 heap 1530 and this 2088 pillar 4676 to me, for harm 7463a.

 31:53 “The God 430 of Abraham 85 and the God 430 of Nahor 5152, the God 430 of their father 1, judge 8199 between 996 us.” So Jacob 3290 swore 7650 by the fear 6343 of his father 1 Isaac 3327.

 31:54 Then Jacob 3290 offered 2076 a sacrifice 2077 on the mountain 2022, and called 7121 his kinsmen 251 to the meal 398 3899; and they ate 398 the meal 3899 and spent 3885a the night 3885a on the mountain 2022.

 31:55 Early 7925 in the morning 1242 Laban 3837a arose 7925, and kissed 5401a his sons 1121 and his daughters 1323 and blessed 1288 them. Then Laban 3837a departed 1980 and returned 7725 to his place 4725.
