Genesis 26

1 Isaac because of famine went to Gerar. 2 God instructeth, and blesseth him. 7 He is reproved by Abimelech for denying his wife. 12 He groweth rich. 18 He diggeth Esek, Sitnah, and Rehoboth. 26 Abimelech maketh a covenant with him at Beer-sheba. 34 Esau's wives.

 26:1 Now there was a famine 7458 in the land 776, besides 4480 905 the previous 7223 famine 7458 that had occurred 1961 in the days 3117 of Abraham 85. So Isaac 3327 went 1980 to Gerar 1642, to Abimelech 40 king 4428 of the Philistines 6430.

 26:2 The LORD 3068 appeared 7200 to him and said 559, “Do not go 3381 down 3381 to Egypt 4714; stay 7931 in the land 776 of which 834 I shall tell 559 you.

 26:3 “Sojourn 1481a in this 2088 land 776 and I will be with you and bless 1288 you, for to you and to your descendants 2233 I will give 5414 all 3605 these 411 lands 776, and I will establish 6965 the oath 7621 which 834 I swore 7650 to your father 1 Abraham 85.

 26:4 “I will multiply 7235a your descendants 2233 as the stars 3556 of heaven 8064, and will give 5414 your descendants 2233 all 3605 these 411 lands 776; and by your descendants 2233 all 3605 the nations 1471 of the earth 776 shall be blessed 1288;

 26:5 because 6118 834 Abraham 85 obeyed 8085 6963 Me and kept 8104 My charge 4931, My commandments 4687, My statutes 2708 and My laws 8451.”

 26:6 ¶ So Isaac 3327 lived 3427 in Gerar 1642.

 26:7 When the men 376 of the place 4725 asked 7592 about his wife 802, he said 559, “She is my sister 269,” for he was afraid 3372a to say 559, “my wife 802,” [thinking], “the men 376 of the place 4725 might kill 2026 me on account 5921 of Rebekah 7259, for she is beautiful 2896a.”

 26:8 It came 1961 about, when 3588 he had been there 8033 a long 748 time 3117, that Abimelech 40 king 4428 of the Philistines 6430 looked 8259 out through 1157 a window 2474, and saw 7200, and behold 2009, Isaac 3327 was caressing 6711 his wife 802 Rebekah 7259.

 26:9 Then Abimelech 40 called 7121 Isaac 3327 and said 559, “Behold 2009, certainly 389 she is your wife 802! How 349 then did you say 559, ‘She is my sister 269’?” And Isaac 3327 said 559 to him, “Because 3588 I said 559, ‘I might 6435 die 4191 on account 5921 of her.’”

 26:10 Abimelech 40 said 559, “What 4100 is this 2088 you have done 6213a to us? One 259 of the people 5971a might easily 4592 have lain 7901 with your wife 802, and you would have brought 935 guilt 817 upon us.”

 26:11 So Abimelech 40 charged 6680 all 3605 the people 5971a, saying 559, “He who touches 5060 this 2088 man 376 or his wife 802 shall surely 4191 be put 4191 to death 4191.”

 26:12 ¶ Now Isaac 3327 sowed 2232 in that land 776 and reaped 4672 in the same 1931 year 8141 a hundredfold 3967 8180. And the LORD 3068 blessed 1288 him,

 26:13 and the man 376 became 1431 rich 1431, and continued 1980 to grow 1432 richer 1432 until 5704 he became 1431 very 3966 wealthy 1431;

 26:14 for he had 1961 possessions 4735 of flocks 6629 and herds 1241 and a great 7227a household 5657, so that the Philistines 6430 envied 7065 him.

 26:15 Now all 3605 the wells 875 which 834 his father’s 1 servants 5650 had dug 2658 in the days 3117 of Abraham 85 his father 1, the Philistines 6430 stopped 5640 up by filling 4390 them with earth 6083.

 26:16 Then Abimelech 40 said 559 to Isaac 3327, “Go 1980 away from us, for you are too 3966 powerful 6105a for us.”

 26:17 And Isaac 3327 departed 1980 from there 8033 and camped 2583 in the valley 5158a of Gerar 1642, and settled 3427 there 8033.

 26:18 ¶ Then Isaac 3327 dug 2658 again 7725 the wells 875 of water 4325 which 834 had been dug 2658 in the days 3117 of his father 1 Abraham 85, for the Philistines 6430 had stopped 5640 them up after 310 the death 4194 of Abraham 85; and he gave 7121 them the same 8034 names 8034 which 834 his father 1 had given 7121 them.

 26:19 But when Isaac’s 3327 servants 5650 dug 2658 in the valley 5158a and found 4672 there 8033 a well 875 of flowing 2416a water 4325,

 26:20 the herdsmen 7462a of Gerar 1642 quarreled 7378 with the herdsmen 7462a of Isaac 3327, saying 559, “The water 4325 is ours!” So he named 7121 8034 the well 875 Esek 6230, because 3588 they contended 6229 with him.

 26:21 Then they dug 2658 another 312 well 875, and they quarreled 7378 over 5921 it too 1571, so he named 7121 8034 it Sitnah 7856.

 26:22 He moved 6275 away 6275 from there 8033 and dug 2658 another 312 well 875, and they did not quarrel 7378 over 5921 it; so he named 7121 8034 it Rehoboth 7344, for he said 559, “At last 3588 6258 the LORD 3068 has made 7337 room 7337 for us, and we will be fruitful 6509 in the land 776.”

 26:23 ¶ Then he went 5927 up from there 8033 to Beersheba 884.

 26:24 The LORD 3068 appeared 7200 to him the same 1931 night 3915 and said 559, “I am the God 430 of your father 1 Abraham 85; Do not fear 3372a, for I am with you. I will bless 1288 you, and multiply 7235a your descendants 2233, For the sake 5668 of My servant 5650 Abraham 85.”

 26:25 So he built 1129 an altar 4196 there 8033 and called 7121 upon the name 8034 of the LORD 3068, and pitched 5186 his tent 168 there 8033; and there 8033 Isaac’s 3327 servants 5650 dug 3738a a well 875.

 26:26 ¶ Then Abimelech 40 came 1980 to him from Gerar 1642 with his adviser 4828 Ahuzzath 276 and Phicol 6369 the commander 8269 of his army 6635.

 26:27 Isaac 3327 said 559 to them, “Why 4069 have you come 935 to me, since you hate 8130 me and have sent 7971 me away 7971 from you?”

 26:28 They said 559, “We see 7200 plainly 7200 that the LORD 3068 has been 1961 with you; so we said 559, ‘Let there now 4994 be an oath 423 between 996 us, [even] between 996 you and us, and let us make 3772 a covenant 1285 with you,

 26:29 that you will do 6213a us no 518 harm 7463a, just 3512c as we have not touched 5060 you and have done 6213a to you nothing 7534 but good 2896b and have sent 7971 you away 7971 in peace 7965. You are now 6258 the blessed 1288 of the LORD 3068.’”

 26:30 Then he made 6213a them a feast 4960, and they ate 398 and drank 8354.

 26:31 In the morning 1242 they arose 7925 early 7925 and exchanged 7650 oaths 7650; then Isaac 3327 sent 7971 them away 7971 and they departed 1980 from him in peace 7965.

 26:32 Now it came 1961 about on the same 1931 day 3117, that Isaac’s 3327 servants 5650 came 935 in and told 5046 him about 5921 182 the well 875 which 834 they had dug 2658, and said 559 to him, “We have found 4672 water 4325.”

 26:33 So he called 7121 it Shibah 7656; therefore 5921 3651 the name 8034 of the city 5892b is Beersheba 884 to this 2088 day 3117.

 26:34 ¶ When Esau 6215 was forty 705 years 8141 old 1121 he married 3947 802 Judith 3067 the daughter 1323 of Beeri 882 the Hittite 2850, and Basemath 1315 the daughter 1323 of Elon 356 the Hittite 2850;

 26:35 and they brought 1961 grief 4786 7307 to Isaac 3327 and Rebekah 7259.
