Genesis 39

1 Joseph advanceth in Potiphar's house. 7 He resisteth his mistress' temptation. 13 He is falsely accused. 20 He is cast in prison. 21 God is with him there.

 39:1 Now Joseph 3130 had been taken 3381 down 3381 to Egypt 4714; and Potiphar 6318, an Egyptian 4713 officer 5631 of Pharaoh 6547, the captain 8269 of the bodyguard 2876, bought 7069 him from the Ishmaelites 3459, who 834 had taken 3381 him down 3381 there 8033.

 39:2 The LORD 3068 was with Joseph 3130, so he became 1961 a successful 6743b man 376. And he was in the house 1004 of his master 113, the Egyptian 4713.

 39:3 Now his master 113 saw 7200 that the LORD 3068 was with him and [how] the LORD 3068 caused all 3605 that he did 6213a to prosper 6743b in his hand 3027.

 39:4 So Joseph 3130 found 4672 favor 2580 in his sight 5869 and became 8334 his personal 8334 servant 8334; and he made 6485 him overseer 6485 over 5921 his house 1004, and all 3605 that he owned 3426 he put 5414 in his charge 3027.

 39:5 It came 1961 about that from the time 227 he made 6485 him overseer 6485 in his house 1004 and over 5921 all 3605 that he owned 3426, the LORD 3068 blessed 1288 the Egyptian’s 4713 house 1004 on account 1558 of Joseph 3130; thus the LORD’S 3068 blessing 1293 was upon all 3605 that he owned 3426, in the house 1004 and in the field 7704.

 39:6 So he left 5800a everything 3605 he owned in Joseph’s 3130 charge 3027; and with him [there] he did not concern 3045 himself with anything 3972 except 3588 518 the food 3899 which 834 he ate 398. ¶ Now Joseph 3130 was handsome 3303 in form 8389 and appearance 4758.

 39:7 It came 1961 about after 310 these 428 events 1697 that his master’s 113 wife 802 looked 5375 5869 with desire 5375 at Joseph 3130, and she said 559, “Lie 7901 with me.”

 39:8 But he refused 3985 and said 559 to his master’s 113 wife 802, “Behold 2005, with me [here], my master 113 does not concern 3045 himself with anything 4100 in the house 1004, and he has put 5414 all 3605 that he owns 3426 in my charge 3027.

 39:9 “There 369 is no 369 one greater 1419 in this 2088 house 1004 than 4480 I, and he has withheld 2820 nothing 3808 3972 from me except 3588 518 you, because 834 you are his wife 802. How 349 then could I do 6213a this 2088 great 1419 evil 7463a and sin 2398 against God 430?”

 39:10 As she spoke 1696 to Joseph 3130 day 3117 after day 3117, he did not listen 8085 to her to lie 7901 beside 681a her [or] be with her.

 39:11 Now it happened 1961 one 2088 day 3117 that he went 935 into the house 1004 to do 6213a his work 4399, and none 369 376 of the men 376 of the household 1004 was there 8033 inside 1004.

 39:12 She caught 8610 him by his garment 899b, saying 559, “Lie 7901 with me!” And he left 5800a his garment 899b in her hand 3027 and fled 5127, and went 3318 outside 2351.

 39:13 When she saw 7200 that he had left 5800a his garment 899b in her hand 3027 and had fled 5127 outside 2351,

 39:14 she called 7121 to the men 376 of her household 1004 and said 559 to them, “See 7200, he has brought 935 in a Hebrew 5680 to us to make 6711 sport 6711 of us; he came 935 in to me to lie 7901 with me, and I screamed 7121 6963 1419.

 39:15 “When he heard 8085 that I raised 7311 my voice 6963 and screamed 7121, he left 5800a his garment 899b beside 681a me and fled 5127 and went 3318 outside 2351.”

 39:16 So she left 5117 his garment 899b beside 681a her until 5704 his master 113 came 935 home 1004.

 39:17 Then she spoke 1696 to him with these 428 words 1697, “The Hebrew 5680 slave 5650, whom 834 you brought 935 to us, came 935 in to me to make 6711 sport 6711 of me;

 39:18 and as I raised 7311 my voice 6963 and screamed 7121, he left 5800a his garment 899b beside 681a me and fled 5127 outside 2351.”

 39:19 ¶ Now when his master 113 heard 8085 the words 1697 of his wife 802, which 834 she spoke 1696 to him, saying 559, “This 1697 428 is what 1697 your slave 5650 did 6213a to me,” his anger 639 burned 2734.

 39:20 So Joseph’s 3130 master 113 took 3947 him and put 5414 him into the jail 1004 5470, the place 4725 where 834 the king’s 4428 prisoners 615 were confined 631; and he was there 8033 in the jail 1004 5470.

 39:21 But the LORD 3068 was with Joseph 3130 and extended 5186 kindness 2617a to him, and gave 5414 him favor 2580 in the sight 5869 of the chief 8269 jailer 1004 5470.

 39:22 The chief 8269 jailer 1004 5470 committed 5414 to Joseph’s 3130 charge 3027 all 3605 the prisoners 615 who 834 were in the jail 1004 5470; so that whatever 3605 834 was done 6213a there 8033, he was responsible 6213a [for it].

 39:23 The chief 8269 jailer 1004 5470 did not supervise 7200 anything 3605 3972 under Joseph’s charge 3027 because 834 the LORD 3068 was with him; and whatever 834 he did 6213a, the LORD 3068 made to prosper 6743b.
