Genesis 34

1 Dinah is ravished by Shechem. 4 He sueth to marry her. 13 The sons of Jacob offer their condition of circumcision to the Shechemites. 20 Hamor and Shechem persuade them to accept it. 25 The sons of Jacob upon that advantage slay them, 27 and spoil their city. 30 Jacob reproveth Simeon and Levi.

 34:1 Now Dinah 1783 the daughter 1323 of Leah 3812, whom 834 she had borne 3205 to Jacob 3290, went 3318 out to visit 7200 the daughters 1323 of the land 776.

 34:2 When Shechem 7927 the son 1121 of Hamor 2544 the Hivite 2340, the prince 5387a of the land 776, saw 7200 her, he took 3947 her and lay 7901 with her by force 6031a.

 34:3 He was deeply 1692 attracted 1692 to Dinah 1783 the daughter 1323 of Jacob 3290, and he loved 157 the girl 5291 and spoke 1696 tenderly 3820 to her.

 34:4 So Shechem 7927 spoke 559 to his father 1 Hamor 2544, saying 559, “Get 3947 me this 2088 young 3207 girl 3207 for a wife 802.”

 34:5 Now Jacob 3290 heard 8085 that he had defiled 2930 Dinah 1783 his daughter 1323; but his sons 1121 were with his livestock 4735 in the field 7704, so Jacob 3290 kept 2790b silent 2790b until 5704 they came 935 in.

 34:6 Then Hamor 2544 the father 1 of Shechem 7927 went 3318 out to Jacob 3290 to speak 1696 with him.

 34:7 Now the sons 1121 of Jacob 3290 came 935 in from the field 7704 when they heard 8085 [it]; and the men 376 were grieved 6087a, and they were very 3966 angry 2734 because 3588 he had done 6213a a disgraceful 5039 thing 5039 in Israel 3478 by lying 7901 with Jacob’s 3290 daughter 1323, for such 3651 a thing 3651 ought not to be done 6213a.

 34:8 ¶ But Hamor 2544 spoke 1696 with them, saying 559, “The soul 5315 of my son 1121 Shechem 7927 longs 2836a for your daughter 1323; please 4994 give 5414 her to him in marriage 802.

 34:9 “Intermarry 2859 with us; give 5414 your daughters 1323 to us and take 3947 our daughters 1323 for yourselves.

 34:10 “Thus you shall live 3427 with us, and the land 776 shall be [open] before 6440 you; live 3427 and trade 5503 in it and acquire 270 property 270 in it.”

 34:11 Shechem 7927 also said 559 to her father 1 and to her brothers 251, “If I find 4672 favor 2580 in your sight 5869, then I will give 5414 whatever 834 you say 559 to me.

 34:12 “Ask 7235a me ever so 3966 much 7235a 3966 bridal 4119 payment 4119 and gift 4976, and I will give 5414 according as you say 559 to me; but give 5414 me the girl 5291 in marriage 802.”

 34:13 ¶ But Jacob’s 3290 sons 1121 answered 6030a Shechem 7927 and his father 1 Hamor 2544 with deceit 4820, because 834 he had defiled 2930 Dinah 1783 their sister 269.

 34:14 They said 559 to them, “We cannot 3201 3808 do 6213a this 2088 thing 1697, to give 5414 our sister 269 to one 376 who 834 is uncircumcised 6190, for that would be a disgrace 2781 to us.

 34:15 “Only 389 on this 2088 [condition] will we consent 225 to you: if 518 you will become 1961 like 3644 us, in that every 3605 male 2145 of you be circumcised 4135,

 34:16 then we will give 5414 our daughters 1323 to you, and we will take 3947 your daughters 1323 for ourselves, and we will live 3427 with you and become 1961 one 259 people 5971a.

 34:17 “But if 518 you will not listen 8085 to us to be circumcised 4135, then we will take 3947 our daughter 1323 and go 1980.”

 34:18 ¶ Now their words 1697 seemed 3190 reasonable 3190 to Hamor 2544 and Shechem 7927, Hamor’s 2544 son 1121.

 34:19 The young 5288 man 5288 did not delay 309 to do 6213a the thing 1697, because 3588 he was delighted 2654a with Jacob’s 3290 daughter 1323. Now he was more 4480 respected 3513 than 4480 all 3605 the household 1004 of his father 1.

 34:20 So Hamor 2544 and his son 1121 Shechem 7927 came 935 to the gate 8179 of their city 5892b and spoke 1696 to the men 376 of their city 5892b, saying 559,

 34:21 “These 428 men 376 are friendly 8003 with us; therefore let them live 3427 in the land 776 and trade 5503 in it, for behold 2009, the land 776 is large 7342 3027 enough 3027 for them. Let us take 3947 their daughters 1323 in marriage 802, and give 5414 our daughters 1323 to them.

 34:22 “Only 389 on this 2088 [condition] will the men 376 consent 225 to us to live 3427 with us, to become 1961 one 259 people 5971a: that every 3605 male 2145 among us be circumcised 4135 as they are circumcised 4135.

 34:23 “Will not their livestock 4735 and their property 7075 and all 3605 their animals 929 be ours? Only 389 let us consent 225 to them, and they will live 3427 with us.”

 34:24 All 3605 who went 3318 out of the gate 8179 of his city 5892b listened 8085 to Hamor 2544 and to his son 1121 Shechem 7927, and every 3605 male 2145 was circumcised 4135, all 3605 who went 3318 out of the gate 8179 of his city 5892b.

 34:25 ¶ Now it came 1961 about on the third 7992 day 3117, when they were in pain 3510, that two 8147 of Jacob’s 3290 sons 1121, Simeon 8095 and Levi 3878, Dinah’s 1783 brothers 251, each 376 took 3947 his sword 2719 and came 935 upon the city 5892b unawares 983, and killed 2026 every 3605 male 2145.

 34:26 They killed 2026 Hamor 2544 and his son 1121 Shechem 7927 with the edge 6310 of the sword 2719, and took 3947 Dinah 1783 from Shechem’s 7927 house 1004, and went 3318 forth 3318.

 34:27 Jacob’s 3290 sons 1121 came 935 upon the slain 2491a and looted 962 the city 5892b, because 834 they had defiled 2930 their sister 269.

 34:28 They took 3947 their flocks 6629 and their herds 1241 and their donkeys 2543, and that which 834 was in the city 5892b and that which 834 was in the field 7704;

 34:29 and they captured 7617 and looted 962 all 3605 their wealth 2428 and all 3605 their little 2945 ones 2945 and their wives 802, even all 3605 that [was] in the houses 1004.

 34:30 Then Jacob 3290 said 559 to Simeon 8095 and Levi 3878, “You have brought 5916 trouble 5916 on me by making 887 me odious 887 among the inhabitants 3427 of the land 776, among the Canaanites 3669a and the Perizzites 6522; and my men 4962 being few 4962 in number 4557, they will gather 622 together against 5921 me and attack 5221 me and I will be destroyed 8045, I and my household 1004.”

 34:31 But they said 559, “Should he treat 6213a our sister 269 as a harlot 2181?”
