Genesis 28

1 Isaac blesseth Jacob, and sendeth him to Padan-aram. 6 Esau marrieth Mahalath the daughter of Ismael. 10 The vision of Jacob's ladder. 18 The stone of Beth-el. 20 Jacob's vow.

 28:1 So Isaac 3327 called 7121 Jacob 3290 and blessed 1288 him and charged 6680 him, and said 559 to him, “You shall not take 3947 a wife 802 from the daughters 1323 of Canaan 3667a.

 28:2 “Arise 6965, go 1980 to Paddan-aram 6307, to the house 1004 of Bethuel 1328a your mother’s 517 father 1; and from there 8033 take 3947 to yourself a wife 802 from the daughters 1323 of Laban 3837a your mother’s 517 brother 251.

 28:3 “May God 410 Almighty 7706b bless 1288 you and make 6509 you fruitful 6509 and multiply 7235a you, that you may become 1961 a company 6951 of peoples 5971a.

 28:4 “May He also give 5414 you the blessing 1293 of Abraham 85, to you and to your descendants 2233 with you, that you may possess 3423 the land 776 of your sojournings 4033, which 834 God 430 gave 5414 to Abraham 85.”

 28:5 Then Isaac 3327 sent 7971 Jacob 3290 away 7971, and he went 1980 to Paddan-aram 6307 to Laban 3837a, son 1121 of Bethuel 1328a the Aramean 761, the brother 251 of Rebekah 7259, the mother 517 of Jacob 3290 and Esau 6215.

 28:6 ¶ Now Esau 6215 saw 7200 that Isaac 3327 had blessed 1288 Jacob 3290 and sent 7971 him away 7971 to Paddan-aram 6307 to take 3947 to himself a wife 802 from there 8033, [and that] when he blessed 1288 him he charged 6680 him, saying 559, “You shall not take 3947 a wife 802 from the daughters 1323 of Canaan 3667a,”

 28:7 and that Jacob 3290 had obeyed 8085 his father 1 and his mother 517 and had gone 1980 to Paddan-aram 6307.

 28:8 So Esau 6215 saw 7200 that the daughters 1323 of Canaan 3667a displeased 7451a his father 1 Isaac 3327;

 28:9 and Esau 6215 went 1980 to Ishmael 3458, and married 3947 802, besides 5921 the wives 802 that he had, Mahalath 4258 the daughter 1323 of Ishmael 3458, Abraham’s 85 son 1121, the sister 269 of Nebaioth 5032.

 28:10 ¶ Then Jacob 3290 departed 3318 from Beersheba 884 and went 1980 toward Haran 2771a.

 28:11 He came 6293 to a certain place 4725 and spent 3885a the night 3885a there 8033, because 3588 the sun 8121 had set 935; and he took 3947 one of the stones 68 of the place 4725 and put 7760 it under his head 4763, and lay 7901 down 7901 in that place 4725.

 28:12 He had 2492b a dream 2492b, and behold 2009, a ladder 5551 was set 5324 on the earth 776 with its top 7218 reaching 5060 to heaven 8064; and behold 2009, the angels 4397 of God 430 were ascending 5927 and descending 3381 on it.

 28:13 And behold 2009, the LORD 3068 stood 5324 above 5921 it and said 559, “I am the LORD 3068, the God 430 of your father 1 Abraham 85 and the God 430 of Isaac 3327; the land 776 on which 834 you lie 7901, I will give 5414 it to you and to your descendants 2233.

 28:14 “Your descendants 2233 will also be like the dust 6083 of the earth 776, and you will spread 6555 out to the west 3220 and to the east 6924b and to the north 6828 and to the south 5045; and in you and in your descendants 2233 shall all 3605 the families 4940 of the earth 127 be blessed 1288.

 28:15 “Behold 2009, I am with you and will keep 8104 you wherever 3605 834 you go 1980, and will bring 7725 you back 7725 to this 2088 land 127; for I will not leave 5800a you until 5704 834 I have done 6213a what 834 I have promised 1696 you.”

 28:16 Then Jacob 3290 awoke 3364 from his sleep 8142 and said 559, “Surely 403 the LORD 3068 is in this 2088 place 4725, and I did not know 3045 it.”

 28:17 He was afraid 3372a and said 559, “How 4100 awesome 3372a is this 2088 place 4725! This 2088 is none 369 other 369 than 3588 518 the house 1004 of God 430, and this 2088 is the gate 8179 of heaven 8064.”

 28:18 ¶ So Jacob 3290 rose 7925 early 7925 in the morning 1242, and took 3947 the stone 68 that he had put 7760 under his head 4763 and set 7760 it up as a pillar 4676 and poured 3332 oil 8081 on its top 7218.

 28:19 He called 7121 the name 8034 of that place 4725 Bethel 1008; however 199, previously 7223 the name 8034 of the city 5892b had been Luz 3870.

 28:20 Then Jacob 3290 made 5087 a vow 5088, saying 559, “If 518 God 430 will be with me and will keep 8104 me on this 2088 journey 1870 that I take 1980, and will give 5414 me food 3899 to eat 398 and garments 899b to wear 3847,

 28:21 and I return 7725 to my father’s 1 house 1004 in safety 7965, then the LORD 3068 will be my God 430.

 28:22 “This 2088 stone 68, which 834 I have set 7760 up as a pillar 4676, will be God’s 430 house 1004, and of all 3605 that You give 5414 me I will surely 6237 give 6237 a tenth 6237 to You.”
