Ezekiel 20

1 God refuseth to be consulted by the elders of Israel. 5 He sheweth the story of their rebellions in Egypt, 10 in the wilderness, 27 and in the land. 33 He promiseth to gather them by the Gospel. 45 Under the name of a forest he sheweth the destruction of Jerusalem.

 20:1 Now in the seventh 7637 year 8141, in the fifth 2549 [month], on the tenth 6218 of the month 2320, certain 376 of the elders 2205 of Israel 3478 came 935 to inquire 1875 of the LORD 3068, and sat 3427 before 6440 me.

 20:2 And the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 came 1961 to me saying 559,

 20:3 “Son 1121 of man 120, speak 1696 to the elders 2205 of Israel 3478 and say 559 to them, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “Do you come 935 to inquire 1875 of Me? As I live 2416a,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “I will not be inquired 1875 of by you.”’

 20:4 “Will you judge 8199 them, will you judge 8199 them, son 1121 of man 120? Make them know 3045 the abominations 8441 of their fathers 1;

 20:5 and say 559 to them, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “On the day 3117 when I chose 977 Israel 3478 and swore 5375 3027 to the descendants 2233 of the house 1004 of Jacob 3290 and made 3045 Myself known 3045 to them in the land 776 of Egypt 4714, when I swore 5375 3027 to them, saying 559, I am the LORD 3068 your God 430,

 20:6 on that day 3117 I swore 5375 3027 to them, to bring 3318 them out from the land 776 of Egypt 4714 into a land 776 that I had selected 8446 for them, flowing 2100 with milk 2461 and honey 1706, which 1931 is the glory 6643a of all 3605 lands 776.

 20:7 “I said 559 to them, ‘Cast 7993 away 7993, each 376 of you, the detestable 8251 things 8251 of his eyes 5869, and do not defile 2930 yourselves with the idols 1544 of Egypt 4714; I am the LORD 3068 your God 430.’

 20:8 “But they rebelled 4784 against Me and were not willing 14 to listen 8085 to Me; they did not cast 7993 away 7993 the detestable 8251 things 8251 of their eyes 5869, nor 3808 did they forsake 5800a the idols 1544 of Egypt 4714. ¶ Then I resolved 559 to pour 8210 out My wrath 2534 on them, to accomplish 3615 My anger 639 against them in the midst 8432 of the land 776 of Egypt 4714.

 20:9 “But I acted 6213a for the sake 4616 of My name 8034, that it should not be profaned 2490c in the sight 5869 of the nations 1471 among 8432 whom 834 they [lived], in whose 834 sight 5869 I made 3045 Myself known 3045 to them by bringing 3318 them out of the land 776 of Egypt 4714.

 20:10 “So I took 3318 them out of the land 776 of Egypt 4714 and brought 935 them into the wilderness 4057b.

 20:11 “I gave 5414 them My statutes 2708 and informed 3045 them of My ordinances 4941, by which 834, if a man 120 observes 6213a them, he will live 2421a.

 20:12 “Also 1571 I gave 5414 them My sabbaths 7676 to be a sign 226 between 996 Me and them, that they might know 3045 that I am the LORD 3068 who sanctifies 6942 them.

 20:13 “But the house 1004 of Israel 3478 rebelled 4784 against Me in the wilderness 4057b. They did not walk 1980 in My statutes 2708 and they rejected 3988a My ordinances 4941, by which 834, if a man 120 observes 6213a them, he will live 2421a; and My sabbaths 7676 they greatly 3966 profaned 2490c. Then I resolved 559 to pour 8210 out My wrath 2534 on them in the wilderness 4057b, to annihilate 3615 them.

 20:14 “But I acted 6213a for the sake 4616 of My name 8034, that it should not be profaned 2490c in the sight 5869 of the nations 1471, before whose 834 sight 5869 I had brought 3318 them out.

 20:15 “Also 1571 I swore 5375 3027 to them in the wilderness 4057b that I would not bring 935 them into the land 776 which 834 I had given 5414 them, flowing 2100 with milk 2461 and honey 1706, which 1931 is the glory 6643a of all 3605 lands 776,

 20:16 because 3282 they rejected 3988a My ordinances 4941, and as for My statutes 2708, they did not walk 1980 in them; they even profaned 2490c My sabbaths 7676, for their heart 3820 continually went 1980 after 310 their idols 1544.

 20:17 “Yet My eye 5869 spared 2347 them rather 4480 than 4480 destroying 7843 them, and I did not cause 6213a their annihilation 3617 in the wilderness 4057b.

 20:18 ¶ “I said 559 to their children 1121 in the wilderness 4057b, ‘Do not walk 1980 in the statutes 2706 of your fathers 1 or keep 8104 their ordinances 4941 or defile 2930 yourselves with their idols 1544.

 20:19 ‘I am the LORD 3068 your God 430; walk 1980 in My statutes 2708 and keep 8104 My ordinances 4941 and observe 6213a them.

 20:20 ‘Sanctify 6942 My sabbaths 7676; and they shall be a sign 226 between 996 Me and you, that you may know 3045 that I am the LORD 3068 your God 430.’

 20:21 “But the children 1121 rebelled 4784 against Me; they did not walk 1980 in My statutes 2708, nor 3808 were they careful 8104 to observe 6213a My ordinances 4941, by which 834, [if] a man 120 observes 6213a them, he will live 2421a; they profaned 2490c My sabbaths 7676. So I resolved 559 to pour 8210 out My wrath 2534 on them, to accomplish 3615 My anger 639 against them in the wilderness 4057b.

 20:22 “But I withdrew 7725 My hand 3027 and acted 6213a for the sake 4616 of My name 8034, that it should not be profaned 2490c in the sight 5869 of the nations 1471 in whose 834 sight 5869 I had brought 3318 them out.

 20:23 “Also 1571 I swore 5375 3027 to them in the wilderness 4057b that I would scatter 6327a them among the nations 1471 and disperse 2219 them among the lands 776,

 20:24 because 3282 they had not observed 6213a My ordinances 4941, but had rejected 3988a My statutes 2708 and had profaned 2490c My sabbaths 7676, and their eyes 5869 were on the idols 1544 of their fathers 1.

 20:25 “I also 1571 gave 5414 them statutes 2706 that were not good 2896a and ordinances 4941 by which they could not live 2421a;

 20:26 and I pronounced 2930 them unclean 2930 because of their gifts 4979, in that they caused all 3605 their firstborn 1060 to pass 5674a through 5674a [the fire] so 4616 that I might make 8074 them desolate 8074, in order 4616 that they might know 3045 that I am the LORD 3068.”’

 20:27 ¶ “Therefore 3651, son 1121 of man 120, speak 1696 to the house 1004 of Israel 3478 and say 559 to them, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “Yet 5750 in this 2088 your fathers 1 have blasphemed 1442 Me by acting 4603 treacherously 4603 against Me.

 20:28 “When I had brought 935 them into the land 776 which 834 I swore 5375 3027 to give 5414 to them, then they saw 7200 every 3605 high 7311 hill 1389 and every 3605 leafy 5687 tree 6086, and they offered 2076 there 8033 their sacrifices 2077 and there 8033 they presented 5414 the provocation 3708a of their offering 7133a. There 8033 also they made 7760 their soothing 5207 aroma 7381b and there 8033 they poured 5258a out their drink 5262a offerings 5262a.

 20:29 “Then I said 559 to them, ‘What 4100 is the high 1116 place 1116 to which 834 you go 935?’ So its name 8034 is called 7121 Bamah 1117 to this 2088 day 3117.”’

 20:30 “Therefore 3651, say 559 to the house 1004 of Israel 3478, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “Will you defile 2930 yourselves after the manner 1870 of your fathers 1 and play 2181 the harlot 2181 after 310 their detestable 8251 things 8251?

 20:31 “When you offer 5375 your gifts 4979, when you cause your sons 1121 to pass 5674a through the fire 784, you are defiling 2930 yourselves with all 3605 your idols 1544 to this day 3117. And shall I be inquired 1875 of by you, O house 1004 of Israel 3478? As I live 2416a,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “I will not be inquired 1875 of by you.

 20:32 “What comes 5927 into your mind 7307 will not come 1961 about, when 834 you say 559: ‘We will be like the nations 1471, like the tribes 4940 of the lands 776, serving 8334 wood 6086 and stone 68.’

 20:33 ¶ “As I live 2416a,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “surely 518 3808 with a mighty 2389 hand 3027 and with an outstretched 5186 arm 2220 and with wrath 2534 poured 8210 out, I shall be king 4427a over 5921 you.

 20:34 “I will bring 3318 you out from the peoples 5971a and gather 6908 you from the lands 776 where 834 you are scattered 6327a, with a mighty 2389 hand 3027 and with an outstretched 5186 arm 2220 and with wrath 2534 poured 8210 out;

 20:35 and I will bring 935 you into the wilderness 4057b of the peoples 5971a, and there 8033 I will enter 8199 into judgment 8199 with you face 6440 to face 6440.

 20:36 “As I entered 8199 into judgment 8199 with your fathers 1 in the wilderness 4057b of the land 776 of Egypt 4714, so 3651 I will enter 8199 into judgment 8199 with you,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068.

 20:37 “I will make you pass 5674a under 8478 the rod 7626, and I will bring 935 you into the bond 4562 of the covenant 1285;

 20:38 and I will purge 1305 from you the rebels 4775 and those who transgress 6586 against Me; I will bring 3318 them out of the land 776 where 4033 they sojourn 4033, but they will not enter 935 the land 127 of Israel 3478. Thus you will know 3045 that I am the LORD 3068.

 20:39 ¶ “As for you, O house 1004 of Israel 3478,” thus 3541 says 559 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “Go 1980, serve 5647 everyone 376 his idols 1544; but later 310 you will surely 518 369 listen 8085 to Me, and My holy 6944 name 8034 you will profane 2490c no 3808 longer 5750 with your gifts 4979 and with your idols 1544.

 20:40 “For on My holy 6944 mountain 2022, on the high 4791 mountain 2022 of Israel 3478,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “there 8033 the whole 3605 house 1004 of Israel 3478, all 3605 of them, will serve 5647 Me in the land 776; there 8033 I will accept 7521 them and there 8033 I will seek 1875 your contributions 8641 and the choicest 7225 of your gifts 4864, with all 3605 your holy 6944 things 6944.

 20:41 “As a soothing 5207 aroma 7381b I will accept 7521 you when I bring 3318 you out from the peoples 5971a and gather 6908 you from the lands 776 where 834 you are scattered 6327a; and I will prove 6942 Myself holy 6942 among you in the sight 5869 of the nations 1471.

 20:42 “And you will know 3045 that I am the LORD 3068, when I bring 935 you into the land 127 of Israel 3478, into the land 776 which 834 I swore 5375 3027 to give 5414 to your forefathers 1.

 20:43 “There 8033 you will remember 2142 your ways 1870 and all 3605 your deeds 5949 with which 834 you have defiled 2930 yourselves; and you will loathe 6962a yourselves in your own sight 6440 for all 3605 the evil 7451a things 7451a that you have done 6213a.

 20:44 “Then you will know 3045 that I am the LORD 3068 when I have dealt 6213a with you for My name’s 8034 sake 4616, not according to your evil 7451a ways 1870 or according to your corrupt 7843 deeds 5949, O house 1004 of Israel 3478,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068.’”

 20:45 ¶ Now the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 came 1961 to me, saying 559,

 20:46 “Son 1121 of man 120, set 7760 your face 6440 toward 1870 Teman 8487, and speak 5197 out against 413 the south 1864 and prophesy 5012 against 413 the forest 3293a land 7704 of the Negev 5045,

 20:47 and say 559 to the forest 3293a of the Negev 5045, ‘Hear 8085 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068: thus 3541 says 559 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “Behold 2009, I am about to kindle 3341 a fire 784 in you, and it will consume 398 every 3605 green 3892 tree 6086 in you, as well as every 3605 dry 3002 tree 6086; the blazing 3852 flame 3852 will not be quenched 3518 and the whole 3605 surface 6440 from south 5045 to north 6828 will be burned 6866a by it.

 20:48 “All 3605 flesh 1320 will see 7200 that I, the LORD 3068, have kindled 1197a it; it shall not be quenched 3518.”’”

 20:49 Then I said 559, “Ah 162 Lord 136 GOD 3068! They are saying 559 of me, ‘Is he not [just] speaking 4911b parables 4912?’”
