Ezekiel 18

1 God reproveth the unjust parable of sour grapes. 5 He sheweth how he dealeth with a just father: 10 with a wicked son of a just father: 14 with a just son of a wicked father: 19 with a wicked man repenting: 24 with a just man revolting. 25 He defendeth his justice, 31 and exhorteth to repentance.

 18:1 Then the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 came 1961 to me, saying 559,

 18:2 “What 4100 do you mean by using 4911b this 2088 proverb 4912 concerning 5921 the land 127 of Israel 3478, saying 559, ‘The fathers 1 eat 398 the sour 1155 grapes 1155, But the children’s 1121 teeth 8127 are set 6949a on edge 6949a’?

 18:3 “As I live 2416a,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “you are surely 518 not going to use 4911b this 2088 proverb 4912 in Israel 3478 anymore 5750.

 18:4 “Behold 2005, all 3605 souls 5315 are Mine; the soul 5315 of the father 1 as well as the soul 5315 of the son 1121 is Mine. The soul 5315 who sins 2398 will die 4191.

 18:5 ¶ “But if 3588 a man 376 is righteous 6662 and practices 6213a justice 4941 and righteousness 6666,

 18:6 and does not eat 398 at the mountain 2022 [shrines] or lift 5375 up his eyes 5869 to the idols 1544 of the house 1004 of Israel 3478, or defile 2930 his neighbor’s 7453 wife 802 or approach 7126 a woman 802 during her menstrual 5079 period 5079—

 18:7 if a man 376 does not oppress 3238 anyone, but restores 7725 to the debtor 2326 his pledge 2260b, does not commit 1497 robbery 1500, [but] gives 5414 his bread 3899 to the hungry 7457 and covers 3680 the naked 5903 with clothing 899b,

 18:8 if he does not lend 5414 [money] on interest 5392 or take 3947 increase 8636, [if] he keeps 7725 his hand 3027 from iniquity 5766 [and] executes 6213a true 571 justice 4941 between 996 man 376 and man 376,

 18:9 [if] he walks 1980 in My statutes 2708 and My ordinances 4941 so as to deal 6213a faithfully 571—he is righteous 6662 [and] will surely 2421a live 2421a,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068.

 18:10 ¶ “Then he may have 3205 a violent 6530 son 1121 who sheds 8210 blood 1818 and who does 6213a any 4480 259 of these 428 things 428 to a brother 251

 18:11 (though he himself 1931 did not do 6213a any 3605 of these 428 things 428), that is, he even 1571 eats 398 at the mountain 2022 [shrines], and defiles 2930 his neighbor’s 7453 wife 802,

 18:12 oppresses 3238 the poor 6041 and needy 34, commits 1497 robbery 1500, does not restore 7725 a pledge 2258, but lifts 5375 up his eyes 5869 to the idols 1544 [and] commits 6213a abomination 8441,

 18:13 he lends 5414 [money] on interest 5392 and takes 3947 increase 8636; will he live 2421a? He will not live 2421a! He has committed 6213a all 3605 these 428 abominations 8441, he will surely 4191 be put 4191 to death 4191; his blood 1818 will be on his own head.

 18:14 ¶ “Now behold 2009, he has 3205 a son 1121 who has observed 7200 all 3605 his father’s 1 sins 2403b which 834 he committed 6213a, and observing 7200 does not do 6213a likewise 2004.

 18:15 “He does not eat 398 at the mountain 2022 [shrines] or lift 5375 up his eyes 5869 to the idols 1544 of the house 1004 of Israel 3478, or defile 2930 his neighbor’s 7453 wife 802,

 18:16 or oppress 3238 anyone 376, or retain 2254a a pledge 2258, or commit 1497 robbery 1500, [but] he gives 5414 his bread 3899 to the hungry 7457 and covers 3680 the naked 5903 with clothing 899b,

 18:17 he keeps 7725 his hand 3027 from the poor 6041, does not take 3947 interest 5392 or increase 8636, [but] executes 6213a My ordinances 4941, and walks 1980 in My statutes 2708; he will not die 4191 for his father’s 1 iniquity 5771, he will surely 2421a live 2421a.

 18:18 “As for his father 1, because 3588 he practiced 6231 extortion 6233, robbed 1497 [his] brother 251 and did 6213a what 834 was not good 2896a among 8432 his people 5971b, behold 2009, he will die 4191 for his iniquity 5771.

 18:19 ¶ “Yet you say 559, ‘Why 4069 should the son 1121 not bear 5375 the punishment 5771 for the father’s 1 iniquity 5771?’ When the son 1121 has practiced 6213a justice 4941 and righteousness 6666 and has observed 8104 all 3605 My statutes 2708 and done 6213a them, he shall surely 2421a live 2421a.

 18:20 “The person 5315 who sins 2398 will die 4191. The son 1121 will not bear 5375 the punishment 5771 for the father’s 1 iniquity 5771, nor 3808 will the father 1 bear 5375 the punishment 5771 for the son’s 1121 iniquity 5771; the righteousness 6666 of the righteous 6662 will be upon himself, and the wickedness 7564 of the wicked 7563 will be upon himself.

 18:21 ¶ “But if 3588 the wicked 7563 man 7563 turns 7725 from all 3605 his sins 2403b which 834 he has committed 6213a and observes 8104 all 3605 My statutes 2708 and practices 6213a justice 4941 and righteousness 6666, he shall surely 2421a live 2421a; he shall not die 4191.

 18:22 “All 3605 his transgressions 6588 which 834 he has committed 6213a will not be remembered 2142 against him; because of his righteousness 6666 which 834 he has practiced 6213a, he will live 2421a.

 18:23 “Do I have 2654a any 2654a pleasure 2654a in the death 4194 of the wicked 7563,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “rather 3808 than 3808 that he should turn 7725 from his ways 1870 and live 2421a?

 18:24 ¶ “But when a righteous 6662 man 6662 turns 7725 away 7725 from his righteousness 6666, commits 6213a iniquity 5766 and does 6213a according to all 3605 the abominations 8441 that a wicked 7563 man 7563 does 6213a, will he live 2421a? All 3605 his righteous 6666 deeds 6666 which 834 he has done 6213a will not be remembered 2142 for his treachery 4604 which 834 he has committed 4603 and his sin 2403b which 834 he has committed 2398; for them he will die 4191.

 18:25 “Yet you say 559, ‘The way 1870 of the Lord 136 is not right 8505.’ Hear 8085 now 4994, O house 1004 of Israel 3478! Is My way 1870 not right 8505? Is it not your ways 1870 that are not right 8505?

 18:26 “When a righteous 6662 man 6662 turns 7725 away 7725 from his righteousness 6666, commits 6213a iniquity 5766 and dies 4191 because 5921 of it, for his iniquity 5766 which 834 he has committed 6213a he will die 4191.

 18:27 “Again, when a wicked 7563 man 7563 turns 7725 away 7725 from his wickedness 7564 which 834 he has committed 6213a and practices 6213a justice 4941 and righteousness 6666, he will save 2421a his life 5315.

 18:28 “Because he considered 7200 and turned 7725 away 7725 from all 3605 his transgressions 6588 which 834 he had committed 6213a, he shall surely 2421a live 2421a; he shall not die 4191.

 18:29 “But the house 1004 of Israel 3478 says 559, ‘The way 1870 of the Lord 136 is not right 8505.’ Are My ways 1870 not right 8505, O house 1004 of Israel 3478? Is it not your ways 1870 that are not right 8505?

 18:30 ¶ “Therefore 3651 I will judge 8199 you, O house 1004 of Israel 3478, each 376 according to his conduct 1870,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068. “Repent 7725 and turn 7725 away 7725 from all 3605 your transgressions 6588, so that iniquity 5771 may not become 1961 a stumbling 4383 block 4383 to you.

 18:31 “Cast 7993 away 7993 from you all 3605 your transgressions 6588 which 834 you have committed 6586 and make 6213a yourselves a new 2319 heart 3820 and a new 2319 spirit 7307! For why 4100 will you die 4191, O house 1004 of Israel 3478?

 18:32 “For I have 2654a no 3808 pleasure 2654a in the death 4194 of anyone who dies 4191,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068. “Therefore, repent 7725 and live 2421a.”
