Jeremiah 8

1 The calamity of the Jews, both dead and alive. 4 He upbraideth their foolish and shameless impenitency. 13 He sheweth their grievous judgment, 18 and bewaileth their desperate estate.

 8:1 “At that time 6256,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “they will bring 3318 out the bones 6106 of the kings 4428 of Judah 3063 and the bones 6106 of its princes 8269, and the bones 6106 of the priests 3548 and the bones 6106 of the prophets 5030, and the bones 6106 of the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389 from their graves 6913.

 8:2 “They will spread 7849 them out to the sun 8121, the moon 3394 and to all 3605 the host 6635 of heaven 8064, which 834 they have loved 157 and which 834 they have served 5647, and which 834 they have gone 1980 after 310 and which 834 they have sought 1875, and which 834 they have worshiped 7812. They will not be gathered 622 or buried 6912; they will be as dung 1828 on the face 6440 of the ground 127.

 8:3 “And death 4194 will be chosen 977 rather 4480 than 4480 life 2425b by all 3605 the remnant 7611 that remains 7604 of this 384 evil 7451a family 4940, that remains 7604 in all 3605 the places 4725 to which 834 I have driven 5080 them,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635.

 8:4 “You shall say 559 to them, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “Do [men] fall 5307 and not get 6965 up again? Does one turn 7725 away 7725 and not repent 7725?

 8:5 “Why 4069 then has this 2088 people 5971a, Jerusalem 3389, Turned 7725 away 7725 in continual 5329 apostasy 4878? They hold 2388 fast 2388 to deceit 8649b, They refuse 3985 to return 7725.

 8:6 “I have listened 7181 and heard 8085, They have spoken 1696 what 3653a is not right 3653a; No 369 man 376 repented 5162 of his wickedness 7463a, Saying 559, ‘What 4100 have I done 6213a?’ Everyone 3605 turned 7725 to his course 4794, Like a horse 5483b charging 7857 into the battle 4421.

 8:7 “Even 1571 the stork 2624 in the sky 8064 Knows 3045 her seasons 4150; And the turtledove 8449 and the swift 5483a and the thrush 5693 Observe 8104 the time 6256 of their migration 935; But My people 5971a do not know 3045 The ordinance 4941 of the LORD 3068.

 8:8 ¶ “How 351a can you say 559, ‘We are wise 2450, And the law 8451 of the LORD 3068 is with us’? But behold 2009, the lying 8267 pen 5842 of the scribes 5613b Has made 6213a [it] into a lie 8267.

 8:9 “The wise 2450 men 2450 are put 954 to shame 954, They are dismayed 2865 and caught 3920; Behold 2009, they have rejected 3988a the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, And what 4100 kind of wisdom 2451 do they have?

 8:10 “Therefore 3651 I will give 5414 their wives 802 to others 312, Their fields 7704 to new 3423 owners 3423; Because 3588 from the least 6996a even to the greatest 1419 Everyone 3605 is greedy 1214 for gain 1215; From the prophet 5030 even to the priest 3548 Everyone 3605 practices 6213a deceit 8267.

 8:11 “They heal 7495 the brokenness 7667 of the daughter 1323 of My people 5971a superficially 7043, Saying 559, ‘Peace 7965, peace 7965,’ But there 369 is no 369 peace 7965.

 8:12 “Were they ashamed 954 because 3588 of the abomination 8441 they had done 6213a? They certainly 1571 were not ashamed 954, And they did not know 3045 how to blush 3637; Therefore 3651 they shall fall 5307 among those who fall 5307; At the time 6256 of their punishment 6486 they shall be brought 3782 down 3782,” Says 559 the LORD 3068.

 8:13 ¶ “I will surely 5486 snatch 5486 them away 5486,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068; “There 369 will be no 369 grapes 6025 on the vine 1612 And no 369 figs 8384 on the fig 8384 tree 8384, And the leaf 5929 will wither 5034b; And what I have given 5414 them will pass 5674a away 5674a.”’”

 8:14 Why 5921 4100 are we sitting 3427 still 3427? Assemble 622 yourselves, and let us go 935 into the fortified 4013 cities 5892b And let us perish 1826a there 8033, Because 3588 the LORD 3068 our God 430 has doomed 1826a us And given 8248 us poisoned 7219 water 4325 to drink 8248, For we have sinned 2398 against the LORD 3068.

 8:15 [We] waited 6960a for peace 7965, but no 369 good 2896b [came]; For a time 6256 of healing 4832, but behold 2009, terror 1205!

 8:16 From Dan 1835 is heard 8085 the snorting 5170b of his horses 5483b; At the sound 6963 of the neighing 4684 of his stallions 47 The whole 3605 land 776 quakes 7493; For they come 935 and devour 398 the land 776 and its fullness 4393, The city 5892b and its inhabitants 3427.

 8:17 “For behold 2009, I am sending 7971 serpents 5175 against you, Adders 6848b, for which 834 there 369 is no 369 charm 3908, And they will bite 5391a you,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 8:18 ¶ My sorrow 3015 is beyond healing 4010, My heart 3820 is faint 1742 [within me]!

 8:19 Behold 2009, listen 6963! The cry 7775 of the daughter 1323 of my people 5971a from a distant 4801 land 776: “Is the LORD 3068 not in Zion 6726? Is her King 4428 not within her?” “Why 4069 have they provoked 3707 Me with their graven 6456 images 6456, with foreign 5236 idols 1892?”

 8:20 “Harvest 7105a is past 5674a, summer 7019c is ended 3615, And we are not saved 3467.”

 8:21 For the brokenness 7667 of the daughter 1323 of my people 5971a I am broken 7665; I mourn 6937, dismay 8047 has taken 2388 hold 2388 of me.

 8:22 Is there 369 no 369 balm 6875 in Gilead 1568? Is there 369 no 369 physician 7495 there 8033? Why 4069 then 3588 has not the health 724 of the daughter 1323 of my people 5971a been restored 5927?
