Jeremiah 4

1 God calleth Israel by his promise. 3 He exhorteth Judah to repentance by fearful judgments. 19 A grievous lamentation for the miseries of Judah.

 4:1 “If 518 you will return 7725, O Israel 3478,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “[Then] you should return 7725 to Me. And if 518 you will put 5493 away 5493 your detested 8251 things 8251 from My presence 6440, And will not waver 5110,

 4:2 And you will swear 7650, ‘As the LORD 3068 lives 2416a,’ In truth 571, in justice 4941 and in righteousness 6666; Then the nations 1471 will bless 1288 themselves in Him, And in Him they will glory 1984b.”

 4:3 ¶ For thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 to the men 376 of Judah 3063 and to Jerusalem 3389, “Break 5214 up your fallow 5215b ground 5215b, And do not sow 2232 among 413 thorns 6975.

 4:4 “Circumcise 4135 yourselves to the LORD 3068 And remove 5493 the foreskins 6190 of your heart 3824, Men 376 of Judah 3063 and inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389, Or 6435 else 6435 My wrath 2534 will go 3318 forth 3318 like fire 784 And burn 1197a with none 369 to quench 3518 it, Because 4480 6440 of the evil 7455 of your deeds 4611.”

 4:5 ¶ Declare 5046 in Judah 3063 and proclaim 8085 in Jerusalem 3389, and say 559, “Blow 8628 the trumpet 7782 in the land 776; Cry 7121 aloud 4390 and say 559, ‘Assemble 622 yourselves, and let us go 935 Into the fortified 4013 cities 5892b.’

 4:6 “Lift 5375 up a standard 5251 toward Zion 6726! Seek 5756 refuge 5756, do not stand 5975 [still], For I am bringing 935 evil 7463a from the north 6828, And great 1419 destruction 7667.

 4:7 “A lion 743b has gone 5927 up from his thicket 5441, And a destroyer 7843 of nations 1471 has set 5265 out; He has gone 3318 out from his place 4725 To make 7760 your land 776 a waste 8047. Your cities 5892b will be ruins 5327c Without 369 inhabitant 3427.

 4:8 “For this 384, put 2296 on sackcloth 8242, Lament 5594 and wail 3213; For the fierce 2740 anger 639 of the LORD 3068 Has not turned 7725 back 7725 from us.”

 4:9 “It shall come 1961 about in that day 3117,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “that the heart 3820 of the king 4428 and the heart 3820 of the princes 8269 will fail 6; and the priests 3548 will be appalled 8074 and the prophets 5030 will be astounded 8539.”

 4:10 ¶ Then I said 559, “Ah 162, Lord 136 GOD 3068! Surely 403 You have utterly 5378 deceived 5378 this 2088 people 5971a and Jerusalem 3389, saying 559, ‘You will have 1961 peace 7965’; whereas a sword 2719 touches 5060 the throat 5315.”

 4:11 ¶ In that time 6256 it will be said 559 to this 2088 people 5971a and to Jerusalem 3389, “A scorching 6703 wind 7307 from the bare 8205 heights 8205 in the wilderness 4057b in the direction 1870 of the daughter 1323 of My people 5971a—not to winnow 2219 and not to cleanse 1305,

 4:12 a wind 7307 too 4480 strong 4392 for this 428—will come 935 at My command; now 6258 I will also 1571 pronounce 1696 judgments 4941 against them.

 4:13 “Behold 2009, he goes 5927 up like clouds 6051, And his chariots 4818 like the whirlwind 5492a; His horses 5483b are swifter 7043 than 4480 eagles 5404. Woe 188 to us, for we are ruined 7703!”

 4:14 ¶ Wash 3526 your heart 3820 from evil 7463a, O Jerusalem 3389, That you may be saved 3467. How 4970 long 5704 4970 will your wicked 205 thoughts 4284 Lodge 3885a within 7130 you?

 4:15 For a voice 6963 declares 5046 from Dan 1835, And proclaims 8085 wickedness 205 from Mount 2022 Ephraim 669.

 4:16 “Report 2142 [it] to the nations 1471, now 2009! Proclaim 8085 over 5921 Jerusalem 3389, ‘Besiegers 5341 come 935 from a far 4801 country 776, And lift 5414 their voices 6963 against 5921 the cities 5892b of Judah 3063.

 4:17 ‘Like watchmen 8104 of a field 7706a they are against 5921 her round 5439 about 5439, Because 3588 she has rebelled 4784 against Me,’ declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 4:18 “Your ways 1870 and your deeds 4611 Have brought 6213a these 428 things 428 to you. This 384 is your evil 7463a. How 3588 bitter 4751! How 3588 it has touched 5060 your heart 3820!”

 4:19 ¶ My soul 4578, my soul 4578! I am in anguish 2342a! Oh 7023, my heart 3820! My heart 3820 is pounding 1993 in me; I cannot 3808 be silent 2790b, Because 3588 you have heard 8085, O my soul 5315, The sound 6963 of the trumpet 7782, The alarm 8643 of war 4421.

 4:20 Disaster 7667 on disaster 7667 is proclaimed 7121, For the whole 3605 land 776 is devastated 7703; Suddenly 6597 my tents 168 are devastated 7703, My curtains 3407 in an instant 7281.

 4:21 How 4970 long 5704 4970 must I see 7200 the standard 5251 And hear 8085 the sound 6963 of the trumpet 7782?

 4:22 “For My people 5971a are foolish 191, They know 3045 Me not; They are stupid 5530 children 1121 And have 995 no 3808 understanding 995. They are shrewd 2450 to do 7489a evil 7489a, But to do 3190 good 3190 they do not know 3045.”

 4:23 ¶ I looked 7200 on the earth 776, and behold 2009, [it was] formless 8414 and void 922; And to the heavens 8064, and they had 369 no 369 light 216.

 4:24 I looked 7200 on the mountains 2022, and behold 2009, they were quaking 7493, And all 3605 the hills 1389 moved 7043 to and fro 7043.

 4:25 I looked 7200, and behold 2009, there 369 was no 369 man 120, And all 3605 the birds 5775 of the heavens 8064 had fled 5074.

 4:26 I looked 7200, and behold 2009, the fruitful 3759 land 3759 was a wilderness 4057b, And all 3605 its cities 5892b were pulled 5422 down 5422 Before 4480 6440 the LORD 3068, before 4480 6440 His fierce 2740 anger 639.

 4:27 ¶ For thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “The whole 3605 land 776 shall be a desolation 8077, Yet I will not execute 6213a a complete 3617 destruction 3617.

 4:28 “For this 384 the earth 776 shall mourn 56 And the heavens 8064 above 4480 4605 be dark 6937, Because 5921 3588 I have spoken 1696, I have purposed 2161, And I will not change 5162 My mind 5162, nor 3808 will I turn 7725 from it.”

 4:29 At the sound 6963 of the horseman 6571b and bowman 7411a 7198 every 3605 city 5892b flees 1272; They go 935 into the thickets 5645 and climb 5927 among the rocks 3710; Every 3605 city 5892b is forsaken 5800a, And no 369 man 376 dwells 3427 in them.

 4:30 And you, O desolate 7703 one, what 4100 will you do 6213a? Although 3588 you dress 3847 in scarlet 8144, Although 3588 you decorate 5710b [yourself with] ornaments 5716 of gold 2091, Although 3588 you enlarge 7167 your eyes 5869 with paint 6320, In vain 7723 you make 3302 yourself beautiful 3302. [Your] lovers 5689 despise 3988a you; They seek 1245 your life 5315.

 4:31 For I heard 8085 a cry 6963 as of a woman in labor 2342a, The anguish 6869a as of one giving 1069 birth 1069 to her first 1069 child 1069, The cry 6963 of the daughter 1323 of Zion 6726 gasping 3306 for breath 3306, Stretching 6566 out her hands 3709, [saying], “Ah 4994, woe 188 is me, for I faint 5888 before murderers 2026.”
