Jeremiah 34

1 Jeremiah prophesieth the captivity of Zedekiah and the city. 8 The princes and the people having dismissed their bondservants, contrary to the Covenant of God, reassume them. 12 Jeremiah, for their disobedience, giveth them and Zedekiah into the hands of their enemies.

 34:1 The word 1697 which 834 came 1961 to Jeremiah 3414 from the LORD 3068, when Nebuchadnezzar 5019 king 4428 of Babylon 894 and all 3605 his army 2428, with all 3605 the kingdoms 4467 of the earth 776 that were under his dominion 4475 and all 3605 the peoples 5971a, were fighting 3898a against 5921 Jerusalem 3389 and against 5921 all 3605 its cities 5892b, saying 559,

 34:2 “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘Go 1980 and speak 559 to Zedekiah 6667 king 4428 of Judah 3063 and say 559 to him: “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, ‘Behold 2009, I am giving 5414 this 384 city 5892b into the hand 3027 of the king 4428 of Babylon 894, and he will burn 8313 it with fire 784.

 34:3 ‘You will not escape 4422 from his hand 3027, for you will surely 8610 be captured 8610 and delivered 5414 into his hand 3027; and you will see 7200 the king 4428 of Babylon 894 eye 5869 to eye 5869, and he will speak 1696 with you face 6310 to face 6310, and you will go 935 to Babylon 894.’”’

 34:4 “Yet 389 hear 8085 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, O Zedekiah 6667 king 4428 of Judah 3063! Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 concerning 5921 you, ‘You will not die 4191 by the sword 2719.

 34:5 ‘You will die 4191 in peace 7965; and as [spices] were burned 4955 for your fathers 1, the former 7223 kings 4428 who 834 were before 6440 you, so 3651 they will burn 8313 [spices] for you; and they will lament 5594 for you, “Alas 1945, lord 113!”’ For I have spoken 1696 the word 1697,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 34:6 ¶ Then Jeremiah 3414 the prophet 5030 spoke 1696 all 3605 these 428 words 1697 to Zedekiah 6667 king 4428 of Judah 3063 in Jerusalem 3389

 34:7 when the army 2428 of the king 4428 of Babylon 894 was fighting 3898a against 5921 Jerusalem 3389 and against 5921 all 3605 the remaining 3498 cities 5892b of Judah 3063, [that is], Lachish 3923 and Azekah 5825, for they [alone] remained 7604 as fortified 4013 cities 5892b among the cities 5892b of Judah 3063.

 34:8 ¶ The word 1697 which 834 came 1961 to Jeremiah 3414 from the LORD 3068 after 310 King 4428 Zedekiah 6667 had made 3772 a covenant 1285 with all 3605 the people 5971a who 834 were in Jerusalem 3389 to proclaim 7121 release 1865 to them:

 34:9 that each 376 man 376 should set 7971 free 2670 his male 5650 servant 5650 and each 376 man 376 his female 8198 servant 8198, a Hebrew 5680 man 5680 or a Hebrew 5680 woman 5680; so that no 1115 one 1097 should keep 5647 them, a Jew 3064 his brother 251, in bondage 5647.

 34:10 And all 3605 the officials 8269 and all 3605 the people 5971a obeyed 8085 who 834 had entered 935 into the covenant 1285 that each 376 man 376 should set 7971 free 2670 his male 5650 servant 5650 and each 376 man 376 his female 8198 servant 8198, so that no 1115 one 1097 should keep 5647 them any 5750 longer 5750 in bondage 5647; they obeyed 8085, and set 7971 [them free].

 34:11 But afterward 310 3651 they turned 7725 around 7725 and took 7725 back 7725 the male 5650 servants 5650 and the female 8198 servants 8198 whom 834 they had set 7971 free 2670, and brought 3533 them into subjection 3533 for male 5650 servants 5650 and for female 8198 servants 8198.

 34:12 ¶ Then the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 came 1961 to Jeremiah 3414 from the LORD 3068, saying 559,

 34:13 “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘I made 3772 a covenant 1285 with your forefathers 1 in the day 3117 that I brought 3318 them out of the land 776 of Egypt 4714, from the house 1004 of bondage 5650, saying 559,

 34:14 “At the end 7093 of seven 7651 years 8141 each 376 of you shall set 7971 free 7971 his Hebrew 5680 brother 251 who 834 has been sold 4376 to you and has served 5647 you six 8337a years 8141, you shall send 7971 him out free 2670 from you; but your forefathers 1 did not obey 8085 Me or incline 5186 their ear 241 to Me.

 34:15 “Although recently 3117 you [had] turned 7725 and done 6213a what 3477 is right 3477 in My sight 5869, each 376 man 376 proclaiming 7121 release 1865 to his neighbor 7453, and you had made 3772 a covenant 1285 before 6440 Me in the house 1004 which 834 is called 7121 by My name 8034.

 34:16 “Yet you turned 7725 and profaned 2490c My name 8034, and each 376 man 376 took 7725 back 7725 his male 5650 servant 5650 and each 376 man 376 his female 8198 servant 8198 whom 834 you had set 7971 free 2670 according to their desire 5315, and you brought 3533 them into subjection 3533 to be your male 5650 servants 5650 and female 8198 servants 8198.”’

 34:17 ¶ “Therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, ‘You have not obeyed 8085 Me in proclaiming 7121 release 1865 each 376 man 376 to his brother 251 and each 376 man 376 to his neighbor 7453. Behold 2009, I am proclaiming 7121 a release 1865 to you,’ declares 5002 the LORD 3068, ‘to the sword 2719, to the pestilence 1698 and to the famine 7458; and I will make 5414 you a terror 2113 to all 3605 the kingdoms 4467 of the earth 776.

 34:18 ‘I will give 5414 the men 376 who have transgressed 5674a My covenant 1285, who 834 have not fulfilled 6965 the words 1697 of the covenant 1285 which 834 they made 3772 before 6440 Me, [when] they cut 3772 the calf 5695 in two 8147 and passed 5674a between 996 its parts 1335—

 34:19 the officials 8269 of Judah 3063 and the officials 8269 of Jerusalem 3389, the court 5631 officers 5631 and the priests 3548 and all 3605 the people 5971a of the land 776 who passed 5674a between 996 the parts 1335 of the calf 5695—

 34:20 I will give 5414 them into the hand 3027 of their enemies 340 and into the hand 3027 of those who seek 1245 their life 5315. And their dead 5038 bodies 5038 will be food 3978 for the birds 5775 of the sky 8064 and the beasts 929 of the earth 776.

 34:21 ‘Zedekiah 6667 king 4428 of Judah 3063 and his officials 8269 I will give 5414 into the hand 3027 of their enemies 340 and into the hand 3027 of those who seek 1245 their life 5315, and into the hand 3027 of the army 2428 of the king 4428 of Babylon 894 which has gone 5927 away 5927 from you.

 34:22 ‘Behold 2009, I am going to command 6680,’ declares 5002 the LORD 3068, ‘and I will bring 7725 them back 7725 to this 384 city 5892b; and they will fight 3898a against 5921 it and take 3920 it and burn 8313 it with fire 784; and I will make 5414 the cities 5892b of Judah 3063 a desolation 8077 without 369 inhabitant 3427.’”
