Jeremiah 26

1 Jeremiah, by promises and threatenings, exhorteth to repentance. 8 He is therefore apprehended, 10 and arraigned. 12 His apology. 16 He is quit in judgment, by the example of Micah, 20 and of Urijah, 24 and by the care of Ahikam.

 26:1 In the beginning 7225 of the reign 4468 of Jehoiakim 3079 the son 1121 of Josiah 2977, king 4428 of Judah 3063, this 2088 word 1697 came 1961 from the LORD 3068, saying 559,

 26:2 “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, ‘Stand 5975 in the court 2691a of the LORD’S 3068 house 1004, and speak 1696 to all 3605 the cities 5892b of Judah 3063 who have come 935 to worship 7812 [in] the LORD’S 3068 house 1004 all 3605 the words 1697 that I have commanded 6680 you to speak 1696 to them. Do not omit 1639 a word 1697!

 26:3 ‘Perhaps 194 they will listen 8085 and everyone 376 will turn 7725 from his evil 7451a way 1870, that I may repent 5162 of the calamity 7463a which 834 I am planning 2803 to do 6213a to them because 4480 6440 of the evil 7455 of their deeds 4611.’

 26:4 “And you will say 559 to them, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “If 518 you will not listen 8085 to Me, to walk 1980 in My law 8451 which 834 I have set 5414 before 6440 you,

 26:5 to listen 8085 to the words 1697 of My servants 5650 the prophets 5030, whom 834 I have been sending 7971 to you again 7925 and again 7971, but you have not listened 8085;

 26:6 then I will make 5414 this 2088 house 1004 like Shiloh 7887, and this 384 city 5892b I will make 5414 a curse 7045 to all 3605 the nations 1471 of the earth 776.”’”

 26:7 ¶ The priests 3548 and the prophets 5030 and all 3605 the people 5971a heard 8085 Jeremiah 3414 speaking 1696 these 428 words 1697 in the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 26:8 When Jeremiah 3414 finished 3615 speaking 1696 all 3605 that the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 [him] to speak 1696 to all 3605 the people 5971a, the priests 3548 and the prophets 5030 and all 3605 the people 5971a seized 8610 him, saying 559, “You must 4191 die 4191!

 26:9 “Why 4069 have you prophesied 5012 in the name 8034 of the LORD 3068 saying 559, ‘This 2088 house 1004 will be like Shiloh 7887 and this 384 city 5892b will be desolate 2717b, without 369 inhabitant 3427’?” And all 3605 the people 5971a gathered 6950 about 413 Jeremiah 3414 in the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 26:10 ¶ When the officials 8269 of Judah 3063 heard 8085 these 428 things 1697, they came 5927 up from the king’s 4428 house 1004 to the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 and sat 3427 in the entrance 6607 of the New 2319 Gate 8179 of the LORD’S 3068 [house].

 26:11 Then the priests 3548 and the prophets 5030 spoke 559 to the officials 8269 and to all 3605 the people 5971a, saying 559, “A death 4194 sentence 4941 for this 2088 man 376! For he has prophesied 5012 against 413 this 384 city 5892b as you have heard 8085 in your hearing 241.”

 26:12 ¶ Then Jeremiah 3414 spoke 559 to all 3605 the officials 8269 and to all 3605 the people 5971a, saying 559, “The LORD 3068 sent 7971 me to prophesy 5012 against 413 this 2088 house 1004 and against 413 this 384 city 5892b all 3605 the words 1697 that you have heard 8085.

 26:13 “Now 6258 therefore amend 3190 your ways 1870 and your deeds 4611 and obey 8085 the voice 6963 of the LORD 3068 your God 430; and the LORD 3068 will change 5162 His mind 5162 about 413 the misfortune 7463a which 834 He has pronounced 1696 against 5921 you.

 26:14 “But as for me, behold 2009, I am in your hands 3027; do 6213a with me as is good 2896a and right 3477 in your sight 5869.

 26:15 “Only 389 know 3045 for certain 3045 that if 518 you put 4191 me to death 4191, you will bring 5414 innocent 5355a blood 1818 on yourselves, and on this 384 city 5892b and on its inhabitants 3427; for truly 571 the LORD 3068 has sent 7971 me to you to speak 1696 all 3605 these 428 words 1697 in your hearing 241.”

 26:16 ¶ Then the officials 8269 and all 3605 the people 5971a said 559 to the priests 3548 and to the prophets 5030, “No 369 death 4194 sentence 4941 for this 2088 man 376! For he has spoken 1696 to us in the name 8034 of the LORD 3068 our God 430.”

 26:17 Then some 376 of the elders 2205 of the land 776 rose 6965 up and spoke 559 to all 3605 the assembly 6951 of the people 5971a, saying 559,

 26:18 “Micah 4318 of Moresheth 4183 prophesied 5012 in the days 3117 of Hezekiah 2396 king 4428 of Judah 3063; and he spoke 559 to all 3605 the people 5971a of Judah 3063, saying 559, ‘Thus 3541 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 has said 559, “Zion 6726 will be plowed 2790a [as] a field 7704, And Jerusalem 3389 will become 1961 ruins 5856, And the mountain 2022 of the house 1004 as the high 1116 places 1116 of a forest 3293a.”’

 26:19 “Did Hezekiah 2396 king 4428 of Judah 3063 and all 3605 Judah 3063 put 4191 him to death 4191? Did he not fear 3372a the LORD 3068 and entreat 2470b the favor 6440 of the LORD 3068, and the LORD 3068 changed 5162 His mind 5162 about 413 the misfortune 7463a which 834 He had pronounced 1696 against 5921 them? But we are committing 6213a a great 1419 evil 7463a against 5921 ourselves 5315.”

 26:20 ¶ Indeed 1571, there was also 1571 a man 376 who prophesied 5012 in the name 8034 of the LORD 3068, Uriah 223b the son 1121 of Shemaiah 8098 from Kiriath-jearim 7157; and he prophesied 5012 against 5921 this 384 city 5892b and against 5921 this 384 land 776 words 1697 similar to all 3605 those of Jeremiah 3414.

 26:21 When King 4428 Jehoiakim 3079 and all 3605 his mighty 1368 men 1368 and all 3605 the officials 8269 heard 8085 his words 1697, then the king 4428 sought 1245 to put 4191 him to death 4191; but Uriah 223b heard 8085 [it], and he was afraid 3372a and fled 1272 and went 935 to Egypt 4714.

 26:22 Then King 4428 Jehoiakim 3079 sent 7971 men 376 to Egypt 4714: Elnathan 494 the son 1121 of Achbor 5907 and [certain] men 376 with him [went] into Egypt 4714.

 26:23 And they brought 3318 Uriah 223b from Egypt 4714 and led 935 him to King 4428 Jehoiakim 3079, who slew 5221 him with a sword 2719 and cast 7993 his dead 5038 body 5038 into the burial 6913 place 6913 of the common 1121 people 5971a.

 26:24 ¶ But the hand 3027 of Ahikam 296 the son 1121 of Shaphan 8227b was with Jeremiah 3414, so that he was not given 5414 into the hands 3027 of the people 5971a to put 4191 him to death 4191.
