Jeremiah 37

1 The Egyptians having raised the siege of the Chaldeans, King Zedekiah sendeth to Jeremiah to pray for the people. 6 Jeremiah prophesieth the Chaldeans' certain return and victory. 11 He is taken for a fugitive, beaten, and put in prison. 16 He assureth Zedekiah of the captivity. 18 Intreating for his liberty, he obtaineth some favour.

 37:1 Now Zedekiah 6667 the son 1121 of Josiah 2977 whom 834 Nebuchadnezzar 5019 king 4428 of Babylon 894 had made 4427a king 4427a in the land 776 of Judah 3063, reigned 4427a as king 4428 in place 8478 of Coniah 3078 the son 1121 of Jehoiakim 3079.

 37:2 But neither 3808 he nor 3808 his servants 5650 nor 3808 the people 5971a of the land 776 listened 8085 to the words 1697 of the LORD 3068 which 834 He spoke 1696 through 3027 Jeremiah 3414 the prophet 5030.

 37:3 ¶ Yet King 4428 Zedekiah 6667 sent 7971 Jehucal 3081 the son 1121 of Shelemiah 8018, and Zephaniah 6846 the son 1121 of Maaseiah 4641, the priest 3548, to Jeremiah 3414 the prophet 5030, saying 559, “Please 4994 pray 6419 to the LORD 3068 our God 430 on our behalf 1157.”

 37:4 Now Jeremiah 3414 was [still] coming 935 in and going 3318 out among 8432 the people 5971a, for they had not [yet] put 5414 him in the prison 1004 3628.

 37:5 Meanwhile, Pharaoh’s 6547 army 2428 had set 3318 out from Egypt 4714; and when the Chaldeans 3778 who had been besieging 6696a 5921 Jerusalem 3389 heard 8085 the report 8088 about them, they lifted 5927 the [siege] from Jerusalem 3389.

 37:6 ¶ Then the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 came 1961 to Jeremiah 3414 the prophet 5030, saying 559,

 37:7 “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘Thus 3541 you are to say 559 to the king 4428 of Judah 3063, who sent 7971 you to Me to inquire 1875 of Me: “Behold 2009, Pharaoh’s 6547 army 2428 which has come 3318 out for your assistance 5833 is going to return 7725 to its own land 776 of Egypt 4714.

 37:8 “The Chaldeans 3778 will also return 7725 and fight 3898a against 5921 this 384 city 5892b, and they will capture 3920 it and burn 8313 it with fire 784.”’

 37:9 “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, ‘Do not deceive 5378 yourselves 5315, saying 559, “The Chaldeans 3778 will surely 1980 go 1980 away from us,” for they will not go 1980.

 37:10 ‘For even if 518 you had defeated 5221 the entire 3605 army 2428 of Chaldeans 3778 who were fighting 3898a against 854 you, and there were [only] wounded 1856 men 376 left 7604 among them, each 376 man 376 in his tent 168, they would rise 6965 up and burn 8313 this 384 city 5892b with fire 784.’”

 37:11 ¶ Now it happened 1961 when the army 2428 of the Chaldeans 3778 had lifted 5927 [the siege] from Jerusalem 3389 because 4480 6440 of Pharaoh’s 6547 army 2428,

 37:12 that Jeremiah 3414 went 3318 out from Jerusalem 3389 to go 1980 to the land 776 of Benjamin 1144 in order to take 2505a possession 2505a of [some] property 2505a there 4480 8033 among 8432 the people 5971a.

 37:13 While he was at the Gate 8179 of Benjamin 1144, a captain 1167 of the guard 6488 whose name 8034 was Irijah 3376, the son 1121 of Shelemiah 8018 the son 1121 of Hananiah 2608a was there 8033; and he arrested 8610 Jeremiah 3414 the prophet 5030, saying 559, “You are going 5307 over 5307 to the Chaldeans 3778!”

 37:14 But Jeremiah 3414 said 559, “A lie 8267! I am not going 5307 over 5307 to the Chaldeans 3778”; yet he would not listen 8085 to him. So Irijah 3376 arrested 8610 Jeremiah 3414 and brought 935 him to the officials 8269.

 37:15 Then the officials 8269 were angry 7107 at Jeremiah 3414 and beat 5221 him, and they put 5414 him in jail 1004 612 in the house 1004 of Jonathan 3083 the scribe 5613b, which they had made 6213a into the prison 1004 3608.

 37:16 For Jeremiah 3414 had come 935 into the dungeon 1004 953a, that is, the vaulted 2588 cell 2588; and Jeremiah 3414 stayed 3427 there 8033 many 7227a days 3117.

 37:17 ¶ Now King 4428 Zedekiah 6667 sent 7971 and took 3947 him [out]; and in his palace 1004 the king 4428 secretly 5643a asked 7592 him and said 559, “Is there 3426 a word 1697 from the LORD 3068?” And Jeremiah 3414 said 559, “There 3426 is!” Then he said 559, “You will be given 5414 into the hand 3027 of the king 4428 of Babylon 894!”

 37:18 Moreover Jeremiah 3414 said 559 to King 4428 Zedekiah 6667, “[In] what 4100 [way] have I sinned 2398 against you, or against your servants 5650, or against this 2088 people 5971a, that you have put 5414 me in prison 1004 3608?

 37:19 “Where 346 then are your prophets 5030 who 834 prophesied 5012 to you, saying 559, ‘The king 4428 of Babylon 894 will not come 935 against 5921 you or against 5921 this 384 land 776’?

 37:20 “But now 6258, please 4994 listen 8085, O my lord 113 the king 4428; please 4994 let my petition 8467 come 5307 before 6440 you and do not make me return 7725 to the house 1004 of Jonathan 3083 the scribe 5613b, that I may not die 4191 there 8033.”

 37:21 Then King 4428 Zedekiah 6667 gave 6680 commandment 6680, and they committed 6485 Jeremiah 3414 to the court 2691a of the guardhouse 4307 and gave 5414 him a loaf 3603 of bread 3899 daily 3117 from the bakers’ 644 street 2351, until 5704 all 3605 the bread 3899 in the city 5892b was gone 8552. So Jeremiah 3414 remained 3427 in the court 2691a of the guardhouse 4307.
