Jeremiah 5

1 The judgments of God upon the Jews, for their perverseness, 7 for their adultery, 10 for their impiety, 19 for their contempt of God, 25 and for their great corruption in the civil state, 30 and ecclesiastical.

 5:1 “Roam 7751a to and fro 7751a through the streets 2351 of Jerusalem 3389, And look 7200 now 4994 and take 3045 note 3045. And seek 1245 in her open 7339 squares 7339, If 518 you can find 4672 a man 376, If 518 there 3426 is one who does 6213a justice 4941, who seeks 1245 truth 530, Then I will pardon 5545 her.

 5:2 “And although 518 they say 559, ‘As the LORD 3068 lives 2416a,’ Surely 3651 they swear 7650 falsely 8267.”

 5:3 O LORD 3068, do not Your eyes 5869 [look] for truth 530? You have smitten 5221 them, [But] they did not weaken 2470a; You have consumed 3615 them, But they refused 3985 to take 3947 correction 4148. They have made 2388 their faces 6440 harder 2388 than 4480 rock 5553; They have refused 3985 to repent 7725.

 5:4 ¶ Then I said 559, “They are only 389 the poor 1800b, They are foolish 2973; For they do not know 3045 the way 1870 of the LORD 3068 [Or] the ordinance 4941 of their God 430.

 5:5 “I will go 1980 to the great 1419 And will speak 1696 to them, For they know 3045 the way 1870 of the LORD 3068 [And] the ordinance 4941 of their God 430.” But they too, with one 3162 accord 3162, have broken 7665 the yoke 5923 [And] burst 5423 the bonds 4147.

 5:6 Therefore 5921 3651 a lion 743b from the forest 3293a will slay 5221 them, A wolf 2061 of the deserts 6160 will destroy 7703 them, A leopard 5246 is watching 8245 their cities 5892b. Everyone 3605 who goes 3318 out of them will be torn 2963 in pieces 2963, Because 3588 their transgressions 6588 are many 7231, Their apostasies 4878 are numerous 6105a.

 5:7 ¶ “Why 335 should I pardon 5545 you? Your sons 1121 have forsaken 5800a Me And sworn 7650 by those who are not gods 430. When I had fed 7646 them to the full 7646, They committed 5003 adultery 5003 And trooped 1413 to the harlot’s 2181 house 1004.

 5:8 “They were well-fed 2109 lusty 7904 horses 5483b, Each 376 one 376 neighing 6670a after 413 his neighbor’s 7453 wife 802.

 5:9 “Shall I not punish 6485 these 428 [people],” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “And on a nation 1471 such 834 as this 2088 Shall I not avenge 5358 Myself 5315?

 5:10 ¶ “Go 5927 up through her vine 7795b rows 7795b and destroy 7843, But do not execute 6213a a complete 3617 destruction 3617; Strip 5493 away 5493 her branches 5189, For they are not the LORD’S 3068.

 5:11 “For the house 1004 of Israel 3478 and the house 1004 of Judah 3063 Have dealt 898 very 898 treacherously 898 with Me,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 5:12 They have lied 3584 about the LORD 3068 And said 559, “Not He; Misfortune 7463a will not come 935 on us, And we will not see 7200 sword 2719 or famine 7458.

 5:13 “The prophets 5030 are [as] wind 7307, And the word 1699b is not in them. Thus 3541 it will be done 6213a to them!”

 5:14 ¶ Therefore 3651, thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, the God 430 of hosts 6635, “Because 3282 you have spoken 1696 this 2088 word 1697, Behold 2009, I am making 5414 My words 1697 in your mouth 6310 fire 784 And this 2088 people 5971a wood 6086, and it will consume 398 them.

 5:15 “Behold 2009, I am bringing 935 a nation 1471 against 5921 you from afar 4801, O house 1004 of Israel 3478,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068. “It is an enduring 386 nation 1471, It is an ancient 5769 nation 1471, A nation 1471 whose language 3956 you do not know 3045, Nor 3808 can you understand 8085 what 4100 they say 1696.

 5:16 “Their quiver 827 is like an open 6605a grave 6913, All 3605 of them are mighty 1368 men 1368.

 5:17 “They will devour 398 your harvest 7105a and your food 3899; They will devour 398 your sons 1121 and your daughters 1323; They will devour 398 your flocks 6629 and your herds 1241; They will devour 398 your vines 1612 and your fig 8384 trees 8384; They will demolish 7567 with the sword 2719 your fortified 4013 cities 5892b in which 834 you trust 982.

 5:18 ¶ “Yet even 1571 in those 1992a days 3117,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “I will not make 6213a you a complete 3617 destruction 3617.

 5:19 “It shall come 1961 about when 3588 they say 559, ‘Why 8478 4100 has the LORD 3068 our God 430 done 6213a all 3605 these 428 things 428 to us?’ then you shall say 559 to them, ‘As you have forsaken 5800a Me and served 5647 foreign 5236 gods 430 in your land 776, so 3651 you will serve 5647 strangers 2114a in a land 776 that is not yours.’

 5:20 ¶ “Declare 5046 this 384 in the house 1004 of Jacob 3290 And proclaim 8085 it in Judah 3063, saying 559,

 5:21 ‘Now 4994 hear 8085 this 384, O foolish 5530 and senseless 369 3820 people 5971a, Who have eyes 5869 but do not see 7200; Who have ears 241 but do not hear 8085.

 5:22 ‘Do you not fear 3372a Me?’ declares 5002 the LORD 3068. ‘Do you not tremble 2342a in My presence 6440? For I have placed 7760 the sand 2344 as a boundary 1366 for the sea 3220, An eternal 5769 decree 2706, so it cannot 3808 cross 5674a over 5674a it. Though the waves 1530 toss 1607, yet they cannot 3808 prevail 3201; Though they roar 1993, yet they cannot 3808 cross 5674a over 5674a it.

 5:23 ‘But this 2088 people 5971a has 1961 a stubborn 5637 and rebellious 4784 heart 3820; They have turned 5493 aside 5493 and departed 1980.

 5:24 ‘They do not say 559 in their heart 3824, “Let us now 4994 fear 3372a the LORD 3068 our God 430, Who gives 5414 rain 1653 in its season 6256, Both the autumn 3138 rain 3138 and the spring 4456 rain 4456, Who keeps 8104 for us The appointed 2708 weeks 7620 of the harvest 7105a.”

 5:25 ‘Your iniquities 5771 have turned 5186 these 428 away 5186, And your sins 2403b have withheld 4513 good 2896b from you.

 5:26 ‘For wicked 7563 men 7563 are found 4672 among My people 5971a, They watch 7789 like fowlers 3353 lying 7918 in wait 7918; They set 7843 a trap 4889, They catch 3920 men 376.

 5:27 ‘Like a cage 3619 full 4392 of birds 5775, So 3651 their houses 1004 are full 4392 of deceit 4820; Therefore 5921 3651 they have become 1431 great 1431 and rich 6238.

 5:28 ‘They are fat 8080, they are sleek 6245a, They also 1571 excel 5674a in deeds 1697 of wickedness 7451b; They do not plead 1777 the cause 1779, The cause 1779 of the orphan 3490, that they may prosper 6743b; And they do not defend 8199 the rights 4941 of the poor 34.

 5:29 ‘Shall I not punish 6485 these 428 [people]?’ declares 5002 the LORD 3068, ‘On a nation 1471 such 834 as this 2088 Shall I not avenge 5358 Myself 5315?’

 5:30 ¶ “An appalling 8047 and horrible 8186a thing 8186a Has happened 1961 in the land 776:

 5:31 The prophets 5030 prophesy 5012 falsely 8267, And the priests 3548 rule 7287a on their [own] authority 3027; And My people 5971a love 157 it so 3651! But what 4100 will you do 6213a at the end 319 of it?
