Jeremiah 36

1 Jeremiah causeth Baruch to write his prophecy, 5 and publickly to read it. 11 The princes, having intelligence thereof by Michaiah, send Jehudi to fetch the roll, and read it. 19 They will Baruch to hide himself and Jeremiah. 20 The king Jehoiakim, being certified thereof, heareth part of it, and burneth the roll. 27 Jeremiah denounceth his judgment. 32 Baruch writeth a new copy.

 36:1 In the fourth 7243 year 8141 of Jehoiakim 3079 the son 1121 of Josiah 2977, king 4428 of Judah 3063, this 2088 word 1697 came 1961 to Jeremiah 3414 from the LORD 3068, saying 559,

 36:2 “Take 3947 a scroll 4039 5612 and write 3789 on it all 3605 the words 1697 which 834 I have spoken 1696 to you concerning 5921 Israel 3478 and concerning 5921 Judah 3063, and concerning 5921 all 3605 the nations 1471, from the day 3117 I [first] spoke 1696 to you, from the days 3117 of Josiah 2977, even to this 2088 day 3117.

 36:3 “Perhaps 194 the house 1004 of Judah 3063 will hear 8085 all 3605 the calamity 7463a which 834 I plan 2803 to bring 6213a on them, in order 4616 that every 376 man 376 will turn 7725 from his evil 7451a way 1870; then I will forgive 5545 their iniquity 5771 and their sin 2403b.”

 36:4 ¶ Then Jeremiah 3414 called 7121 Baruch 1263 the son 1121 of Neriah 5374, and Baruch 1263 wrote 3789 on a scroll 4039 5612 at the dictation 6310 of Jeremiah 3414 all 3605 the words 1697 of the LORD 3068 which 834 He had spoken 1696 to him.

 36:5 Jeremiah 3414 commanded 6680 Baruch 1263, saying 559, “I am restricted 6113; I cannot 3201 3808 go 935 into the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 36:6 “So you go 935 and read 7121 from the scroll 4039 which 834 you have written 3789 at my dictation 6310 the words 1697 of the LORD 3068 to the people 5971a in the LORD’S 3068 house 1004 on a fast 6685 day 3117. And also 1571 you shall read 7121 them to all 3605 [the people of] Judah 3063 who come 935 from their cities 5892b.

 36:7 “Perhaps 194 their supplication 8467 will come 5307 before 6440 the LORD 3068, and everyone 376 will turn 7725 from his evil 7451a way 1870, for great 1419 is the anger 639 and the wrath 2534 that the LORD 3068 has pronounced 1696 against 413 this 2088 people 5971a.”

 36:8 Baruch 1263 the son 1121 of Neriah 5374 did 6213a according to all 3605 that Jeremiah 3414 the prophet 5030 commanded 6680 him, reading 7121 from the book 5612 the words 1697 of the LORD 3068 in the LORD’S 3068 house 1004.

 36:9 ¶ Now in the fifth 2549 year 8141 of Jehoiakim 3079 the son 1121 of Josiah 2977, king 4428 of Judah 3063, in the ninth 8671 month 2320, all 3605 the people 5971a in Jerusalem 3389 and all 3605 the people 5971a who came 935 from the cities 5892b of Judah 3063 to Jerusalem 3389 proclaimed 7121 a fast 6685 before 6440 the LORD 3068.

 36:10 Then Baruch 1263 read 7121 from the book 5612 the words 1697 of Jeremiah 3414 in the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 in the chamber 3957 of Gemariah 1587 the son 1121 of Shaphan 8227b the scribe 5613b, in the upper 5945a court 2691a, at the entry 6607 of the New 2319 Gate 8179 of the LORD’S 3068 house 1004, to all 3605 the people 5971a.

 36:11 ¶ Now when Micaiah 4321 the son 1121 of Gemariah 1587, the son 1121 of Shaphan 8227b, had heard 8085 all 3605 the words 1697 of the LORD 3068 from the book 5612,

 36:12 he went 3381 down 3381 to the king’s 4428 house 1004, into the scribe’s 5613b chamber 3957. And behold 2009, all 3605 the officials 8269 were sitting 3427 there 8033—Elishama 476 the scribe 5613b, and Delaiah 1806 the son 1121 of Shemaiah 8098, and Elnathan 494 the son 1121 of Achbor 5907, and Gemariah 1587 the son 1121 of Shaphan 8227b, and Zedekiah 6667 the son 1121 of Hananiah 2608a, and all 3605 the [other] officials 8269.

 36:13 Micaiah 4321 declared 5046 to them all 3605 the words 1697 that he had heard 8085 when Baruch 1263 read 7121 from the book 5612 to the people 5971a.

 36:14 Then all 3605 the officials 8269 sent 7971 Jehudi 3065 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418, the son 1121 of Shelemiah 8018, the son 1121 of Cushi 3570, to Baruch 1263, saying 559, “Take 3947 in your hand 3027 the scroll 4039 from which 834 you have read 7121 to the people 5971a and come 1980.” So Baruch 1263 the son 1121 of Neriah 5374 took 3947 the scroll 4039 in his hand 3027 and went 935 to them.

 36:15 They said 559 to him, “Sit 3427 down 3427, please 4994, and read 7121 it to us.” So Baruch 1263 read 7121 it to them.

 36:16 When they had heard 8085 all 3605 the words 1697, they turned 6342 in fear 6342 one 376 to another 7453 and said 559 to Baruch 1263, “We will surely 5046 report 5046 all 3605 these 428 words 1697 to the king 4428.”

 36:17 And they asked 7592 Baruch 1263, saying 559, “Tell 5046 us, please 4994, how 349 did you write 3789 all 3605 these 428 words 1697? [Was it] at his dictation 6310?”

 36:18 Then Baruch 1263 said 559 to them, “He dictated 4480 6310 7121 all 3605 these 428 words 1697 to me, and I wrote 3789 them with ink 1773 on the book 5612.”

 36:19 Then the officials 8269 said 559 to Baruch 1263, “Go 1980, hide 5641 yourself, you and Jeremiah 3414, and do not let anyone know 3045 where 375 you are.”

 36:20 ¶ So they went 935 to the king 4428 in the court 2691a, but they had deposited 6485 the scroll 4039 in the chamber 3957 of Elishama 476 the scribe 5613b, and they reported 5046 241 all 3605 the words 1697 to the king 4428.

 36:21 Then the king 4428 sent 7971 Jehudi 3065 to get 3947 the scroll 4039, and he took 3947 it out of the chamber 3957 of Elishama 476 the scribe 5613b. And Jehudi 3065 read 7121 it to the king 4428 as well as to all 3605 the officials 8269 who stood 5975 beside 4480 5921 the king 4428.

 36:22 Now the king 4428 was sitting 3427 in the winter 2779 house 1004 in the ninth 8671 month 2320, with [a fire] burning 1197a in the brazier 254 before 6440 him.

 36:23 When Jehudi 3065 had read 7121 three 7969 or four 702 columns 1817, [the king] cut 7167 it with a scribe’s 5613b knife 8593 and threw 7993 [it] into the fire 784 that was in the brazier 254, until 5704 all 3605 the scroll 4039 was consumed 8552 in the fire 784 that was in the brazier 254.

 36:24 Yet the king 4428 and all 3605 his servants 5650 who heard 8085 all 3605 these 428 words 1697 were not afraid 6342, nor 3808 did they rend 7167 their garments 899b.

 36:25 Even though 1571 Elnathan 494 and Delaiah 1806 and Gemariah 1587 pleaded 6293 with the king 4428 not to burn 8313 the scroll 4039, he would not listen 8085 to them.

 36:26 And the king 4428 commanded 6680 Jerahmeel 3396 the king’s 4428 son 1121, Seraiah 8304 the son 1121 of Azriel 5837, and Shelemiah 8018 the son 1121 of Abdeel 5655 to seize 3947 Baruch 1263 the scribe 5613b and Jeremiah 3414 the prophet 5030, but the LORD 3068 hid 5641 them.

 36:27 ¶ Then the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 came 1961 to Jeremiah 3414 after 310 the king 4428 had burned 8313 the scroll 4039 and the words 1697 which 834 Baruch 1263 had written 3789 at the dictation 6310 of Jeremiah 3414, saying 559,

 36:28 “Take 3947 again 7725 another 312 scroll 4039 and write 3789 on it all 3605 the former 7223 words 1697 that were on the first 7223 scroll 4039 which 834 Jehoiakim 3079 the king 4428 of Judah 3063 burned 8313.

 36:29 “And concerning 5921 Jehoiakim 3079 king 4428 of Judah 3063 you shall say 559, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “You have burned 8313 this 384 scroll 4039, saying 559, ‘Why 4069 have you written 3789 on it that the king 4428 of Babylon 894 will certainly 935 come 935 and destroy 7843 this 384 land 776, and will make man 120 and beast 929 to cease 7673a from it?’”

 36:30 ‘Therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 concerning 5921 Jehoiakim 3079 king 4428 of Judah 3063, “He shall have 1961 no 3808 one to sit 3427 on the throne 3678 of David 1732, and his dead 5038 body 5038 shall be cast 7993 out to the heat 2721a of the day 3117 and the frost 7140 of the night 3915.

 36:31 “I will also punish 6485 him and his descendants 2233 and his servants 5650 for their iniquity 5771, and I will bring 935 on them and the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389 and the men 376 of Judah 3063 all 3605 the calamity 7463a that I have declared 1696 to them—but they did not listen 8085.”’”

 36:32 ¶ Then Jeremiah 3414 took 3947 another 312 scroll 4039 and gave 5414 it to Baruch 1263 the son 1121 of Neriah 5374, the scribe 5613b, and he wrote 3789 on it at the dictation 6310 of Jeremiah 3414 all 3605 the words 1697 of the book 5612 which 834 Jehoiakim 3079 king 4428 of Judah 3063 had burned 8313 in the fire 784; and many 7227a similar words 1697 were added 3254 to them.
