Jeremiah 23

1 He prophesieth a restoration of the scattered flock. 5 Christ shall rule and save them. 9 Against false prophets, 33 and mockers of the true prophets.

 23:1 “Woe 1945 to the shepherds 7462a who are destroying 6 and scattering 6327a the sheep 6629 of My pasture 4830!” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 23:2 Therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478 concerning 5921 the shepherds 7462a who are tending 7462a My people 5971a: “You have scattered 6327a My flock 6629 and driven 5080 them away 5080, and have not attended 6485 to them; behold 2009, I am about to attend 6485 to you for the evil 7455 of your deeds 4611,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 23:3 “Then I Myself 589 will gather 6908 the remnant 7611 of My flock 6629 out of all 3605 the countries 776 where 834 8033 I have driven 5080 them and bring 7725 them back 7725 to their pasture 5116a, and they will be fruitful 6509 and multiply 7235a.

 23:4 “I will also raise 6965 up shepherds 7462a over 5921 them and they will tend 7462a them; and they will not be afraid 3372a any 5750 longer 5750, nor 3808 be terrified 2865, nor 3808 will any be missing 6485,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 23:5 ¶ “Behold 2009, [the] days 3117 are coming 935,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “When I will raise 6965 up for David 1732 a righteous 6662 Branch 6780; And He will reign 4427a as king 4428 and act 7919a wisely 7919a And do 6213a justice 4941 and righteousness 6666 in the land 776.

 23:6 “In His days 3117 Judah 3063 will be saved 3467, And Israel 3478 will dwell 7931 securely 983; And this 2088 is His name 8034 by which 834 He will be called 7121, ‘The LORD 3068 our righteousness 6664.’

 23:7 ¶ “Therefore 3651 behold 2009, [the] days 3117 are coming 935,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “when they will no 3808 longer 5750 say 559, ‘As the LORD 3068 lives 2416a, who 834 brought 5927 up the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 from the land 776 of Egypt 4714,’

 23:8 but, ‘As the LORD 3068 lives 2416a, who 834 brought 5927 up and led 935 back the descendants 2233 of the household 1004 of Israel 3478 from [the] north 6828 land 776 and from all 3605 the countries 776 where 834 8033 I had driven 5080 them.’ Then they will live 3427 on their own soil 127.”

 23:9 ¶ As for the prophets 5030: My heart 3820 is broken 7665 within 7130 me, All 3605 my bones 6106 tremble 7363a; I have become 1961 like a drunken 7910 man 376, Even like a man 1397 overcome 5674a with wine 3196, Because 4480 6440 of the LORD 3068 And because 4480 6440 of His holy 6944 words 1697.

 23:10 For the land 776 is full 4390 of adulterers 5003; For the land 776 mourns 56 because 4480 6440 of the curse 423. The pastures 4999 of the wilderness 4057b have dried 3001 up. Their course 4794 also is evil 7451a And their might 1369 is not right 3653a.

 23:11 “For both 1571 prophet 5030 and priest 3548 are polluted 2610; Even 1571 in My house 1004 I have found 4672 their wickedness 7463a,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 23:12 “Therefore 3651 their way 1870 will be like slippery 2519 paths 2519 to them, They will be driven 1761b away 1760 into the gloom 653 and fall 5307 down 5307 in it; For I will bring 935 calamity 7463a upon them, The year 8141 of their punishment 6486,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 23:13 ¶ “Moreover, among the prophets 5030 of Samaria 8111 I saw 7200 an offensive 8604 thing 8604: They prophesied 5012 by Baal 1168a and led 8582 My people 5971a Israel 3478 astray 8582.

 23:14 “Also among the prophets 5030 of Jerusalem 3389 I have seen 7200 a horrible 8186a thing 8186a: The committing 5003 of adultery 5003 and walking 1980 in falsehood 8267; And they strengthen 2388 the hands 3027 of evildoers 7489a, So that no 1115 one 376 has turned 7725 back 7725 from his wickedness 7463a. All 3605 of them have become 1961 to Me like Sodom 5467, And her inhabitants 3427 like Gomorrah 6017.

 23:15 “Therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635 concerning 5921 the prophets 5030, ‘Behold 2009, I am going to feed 398 them wormwood 3939 And make them drink 8248 poisonous 7219 water 4325, For from the prophets 5030 of Jerusalem 3389 Pollution 2613 has gone 3318 forth 3318 into all 3605 the land 776.’”

 23:16 ¶ Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, “Do not listen 8085 to the words 1697 of the prophets 5030 who are prophesying 5012 to you. They are leading 1891 you into futility 1891; They speak 1696 a vision 2377 of their own imagination 3820, Not from the mouth 6310 of the LORD 3068.

 23:17 “They keep saying 559 to those who despise 5006 Me, ‘The LORD 3068 has said 1696, “You will have 1961 peace 7965”’; And as for everyone 3605 who walks 1980 in the stubbornness 8307 of his own heart 3820, They say 559, ‘Calamity 7463a will not come 935 upon you.’

 23:18 “But who 4310 has stood 5975 in the council 5475 of the LORD 3068, That he should see 7200 and hear 8085 His word 1697? Who 4310 has given 7181 heed 7181 to His word 1697 and listened 8085?

 23:19 “Behold 2009, the storm 5591b of the LORD 3068 has gone 3318 forth 3318 in wrath 2534, Even a whirling 2342a tempest 5591a; It will swirl 2342a down 2342a on the head 7218 of the wicked 7563.

 23:20 “The anger 639 of the LORD 3068 will not turn 7725 back 7725 Until 5704 He has performed 6213a and carried 6965 out the purposes 4209 of His heart 3820; In the last 319 days 3117 you will clearly 998 understand 995 it.

 23:21 “I did not send 7971 [these] prophets 5030, But they ran 7323. I did not speak 1696 to them, But they prophesied 5012.

 23:22 “But if 518 they had stood 5975 in My council 5475, Then they would have announced 8085 My words 1697 to My people 5971a, And would have turned 7725 them back 7725 from their evil 7451a way 1870 And from the evil 7455 of their deeds 4611.

 23:23 ¶ “Am I a God 430 who is near 7138,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “And not a God 430 far 7350 off 4480 7350?

 23:24 “Can a man 376 hide 5641 himself in hiding 4565 places 4565 So I do not see 7200 him?” declares 5002 the LORD 3068. “Do I not fill 4390 the heavens 8064 and the earth 776?” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 23:25 ¶ “I have heard 8085 what 834 the prophets 5030 have said 559 who prophesy 5012 falsely 8267 in My name 8034, saying 559, ‘I had 2492b a dream 2492b, I had 2492b a dream 2492b!’

 23:26 “How 4970 long 5704 4970? Is there 3426 [anything] in the hearts 3820 of the prophets 5030 who prophesy 5012 falsehood 8267, even [these] prophets 5030 of the deception 8649b of their own heart 3820,

 23:27 who intend 2803 to make My people 5971a forget 7911 My name 8034 by their dreams 2472 which 834 they relate 5608 to one 376 another 7453, just 3512c as their fathers 1 forgot 7911 My name 8034 because of Baal 1168a?

 23:28 “The prophet 5030 who 834 has 854 a dream 2472 may relate 5608 [his] dream 2472, but let him who 834 has 854 My word 1697 speak 1696 My word 1697 in truth 571. What 4100 does straw 8401 have [in common] with grain 1250?” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 23:29 “Is not My word 1697 like fire 784?” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “and like a hammer 6360 which shatters 6483a a rock 5553?

 23:30 “Therefore 3651 behold 2009, I am against 5921 the prophets 5030,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “who steal 1589 My words 1697 from each 376 other 7453.

 23:31 “Behold 2009, I am against 5921 the prophets 5030,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “who use 3947 their tongues 3956 and declare 5001, ‘[The Lord] declares 5002.’

 23:32 “Behold 2009, I am against 5921 those who have prophesied 5012 false 8267 dreams 2472,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “and related 5608 them and led 8582 My people 5971a astray 8582 by their falsehoods 8267 and reckless 6350 boasting 6350; yet I did not send 7971 them or command 6680 them, nor 3808 do they furnish 3276 this 2088 people 5971a the slightest 3276 benefit 3276,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 23:33 ¶ “Now when 3588 this 2088 people 5971a or 176 the prophet 5030 or 176 a priest 3548 asks 7592 you saying 559, ‘What 4100 is the oracle 4853b of the LORD 3068?’ then you shall say 559 to them, ‘What 4100 oracle 4853b?’ The LORD 3068 declares 5002, ‘I will abandon 5203 you.’

 23:34 “Then as for the prophet 5030 or the priest 3548 or the people 5971a who 834 say 559, ‘The oracle 4853b of the LORD 3068,’ I will bring 6485 punishment 6485 upon that man 376 and his household 1004.

 23:35 “Thus 3541 will each 376 of you say 559 to his neighbor 7453 and to his brother 251, ‘What 4100 has the LORD 3068 answered 6030a?’ or, ‘What 4100 has the LORD 3068 spoken 1696?’

 23:36 “For you will no 3808 longer 5750 remember 2142 the oracle 4853b of the LORD 3068, because 3588 every 376 man’s 376 own word 1697 will become 1961 the oracle 4853b, and you have perverted 2015 the words 1697 of the living 2416a God 430, the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, our God 430.

 23:37 “Thus 3541 you will say 559 to [that] prophet 5030, ‘What 4100 has the LORD 3068 answered 6030a you?’ and, ‘What 4100 has the LORD 3068 spoken 1696?’

 23:38 “For if 518 you say 559, ‘The oracle 4853b of the LORD 3068!’ surely 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, ‘Because 3282 you said 559 this 2088 word 1697, “The oracle 4853b of the LORD 3068!” I have also sent 7971 to you, saying 559, “You shall not say 559, ‘The oracle 4853b of the LORD 3068!’”’

 23:39 “Therefore 3651 behold 2009, I will surely 5382 forget 5382 you and cast 5203 you away 5203 from My presence 6440, along with the city 5892b which 834 I gave 5414 you and your fathers 1.

 23:40 “I will put 5414 an everlasting 5769 reproach 2781 on you and an everlasting 5769 humiliation 3640 which 834 will not be forgotten 7911.”
