Jeremiah 22

1 He exhorteth to repentance, with promises and threats. 10 The judgment of Shallum, 13 of Jehoiakim, 20 and of Coniah.

 22:1 Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “Go 3381 down 3381 to the house 1004 of the king 4428 of Judah 3063, and there 8033 speak 1696 this 2088 word 1697

 22:2 and say 559, ‘Hear 8085 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, O king 4428 of Judah 3063, who sits 3427 on David’s 1732 throne 3678, you and your servants 5650 and your people 5971a who enter 935 these 428 gates 8179.

 22:3 ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “Do 6213a justice 4941 and righteousness 6666, and deliver 5337 the one who has been robbed 1497 from the power 3027 of [his] oppressor 6216. Also do not mistreat 3238 [or] do 2554 violence 2554 to the stranger 1616, the orphan 3490, or the widow 490; and do not shed 8210 innocent 5355a blood 1818 in this 2088 place 4725.

 22:4 “For if 518 you men will indeed 6213a perform 6213a this 2088 thing 1697, then kings 4428 will enter 935 the gates 8179 of this 2088 house 1004, sitting 3427 in David’s 1732 place on his throne 3678, riding 7392 in chariots 7393 and on horses 5483b, [even the king] himself 1931 and his servants 5650 and his people 5971a.

 22:5 “But if 518 you will not obey 8085 these 428 words 1697, I swear 7650 by Myself,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “that this 2088 house 1004 will become 1961 a desolation 2723.”’”

 22:6 For thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 concerning 5921 the house 1004 of the king 4428 of Judah 3063: “You are [like] Gilead 1568 to Me, [Like] the summit 7218 of Lebanon 3844; Yet most 518 3808 assuredly 518 3808 I will make 7896 you like a wilderness 4057b, [Like] cities 5892b which are not inhabited 3427.

 22:7 “For I will set 6942 apart 6942 destroyers 7843 against 5921 you, Each 376 with his weapons 3627; And they will cut 3772 down 3772 your choicest 4005 cedars 730 And throw 5307 [them] on the fire 784.

 22:8 ¶ “Many 7227a nations 1471 will pass 5674a by this 384 city 5892b; and they will say 559 to one 376 another 7453, ‘Why 5921 4100 has the LORD 3068 done 6213a thus 3602 to this 384 great 1419 city 5892b?’

 22:9 “Then they will answer 559, ‘Because 5921 834 they forsook 5800a the covenant 1285 of the LORD 3068 their God 430 and bowed 7812 down 7812 to other 312 gods 430 and served 5647 them.’”

 22:10 ¶ Do not weep 1058 for the dead 4191 or mourn 5110 for him, [But] weep 1058 continually 1058 for the one who goes 1980 away; For he will never 3808 5750 return 7725 Or see 7200 his native 4138 land 776.

 22:11 ¶ For thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 in regard 413 to Shallum 7967 the son 1121 of Josiah 2977, king 4428 of Judah 3063, who became 4427a king 4427a in the place 8478 of Josiah 2977 his father 1, who 834 went 3318 forth 3318 from this 2088 place 4725, “He will never 3808 5750 return 7725 there 8033;

 22:12 but in the place 4725 where 834 8033 they led 1540 him captive 1540, there 8033 he will die 4191 and not see 7200 this 384 land 776 again 5750.

 22:13 ¶ “Woe 1945 to him who builds 1129 his house 1004 without 3808 righteousness 6664 And his upper 5944 rooms 5944 without 3808 justice 4941, Who uses 5647 his neighbor’s 7453 services 5647 without 2600 pay 2600 And does not give 5414 him his wages 6467,

 22:14 Who says 559, ‘I will build 1129 myself a roomy 4060a house 1004 With spacious 7304 upper 5944 rooms 5944, And cut 7167 out its windows 2474, Paneling 5603 [it] with cedar 730 and painting 4886 [it] bright 8350 red 8350.’

 22:15 “Do you become 4427a a king 4427a because 3588 you are competing 2734 in cedar 730? Did not your father 1 eat 398 and drink 8354 And do 6213a justice 4941 and righteousness 6666? Then 227 it was well 2895 with him.

 22:16 “He pled 1777 the cause 1779 of the afflicted 6041 and needy 34; Then 227 it was well 2895. Is not that what it means to know 1847 Me?” Declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 22:17 “But your eyes 5869 and your heart 3820 Are [intent] only 3588 518 upon your own dishonest 1215 gain 1215, And on shedding 8210 innocent 5355a blood 1818 And on practicing 6213a oppression 6233 and extortion 4835.”

 22:18 ¶ Therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 in regard 413 to Jehoiakim 3079 the son 1121 of Josiah 2977, king 4428 of Judah 3063, “They will not lament 5594 for him: ‘Alas 1945, my brother 251!’ or, ‘Alas 1945, sister 269!’ They will not lament 5594 for him: ‘Alas 1945 for the master 113!’ or, ‘Alas 1945 for his splendor 1935!’

 22:19 “He will be buried 6912 with a donkey’s 2543 burial 6900, Dragged 5498 off and thrown 7993 out beyond 4480 1973 the gates 8179 of Jerusalem 3389.

 22:20 “Go 5927 up to Lebanon 3844 and cry 6817 out, And lift 5414 up your voice 6963 in Bashan 1316; Cry 6817 out also from Abarim 5682, For all 3605 your lovers 157 have been crushed 7665.

 22:21 “I spoke 1696 to you in your prosperity 7962; But you said 559, ‘I will not listen 8085!’ This 2088 has been your practice 1870 from your youth 5271, That you have not obeyed 8085 My voice 6963.

 22:22 “The wind 7307 will sweep 7462a away 7462a all 3605 your shepherds 7462a, And your lovers 157 will go 1980 into captivity 7628b; Then 227 you will surely 3588 be ashamed 954 and humiliated 3637 Because 4480 of all 3605 your wickedness 7463a.

 22:23 “You who dwell 3427 in Lebanon 3844, Nested 7077 in the cedars 730, How 4100 you will groan 2603a when pangs 2256b come 935 upon you, Pain 2427 like a woman in childbirth 3205!

 22:24 ¶ “As I live 2416a,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “even 3588 though 518 Coniah 3078 the son 1121 of Jehoiakim 3079 king 4428 of Judah 3063 were a signet 2368 [ring] on My right 3225 hand 3027, yet 3588 I would pull 5423 you off 5423;

 22:25 and I will give 5414 you over into the hand 3027 of those who are seeking 1245 your life 5315, yes, into the hand 3027 of those whom 834 you dread 3016, even into the hand 3027 of Nebuchadnezzar 5019 king 4428 of Babylon 894 and into the hand 3027 of the Chaldeans 3778.

 22:26 “I will hurl 2904 you and your mother 517 who 834 bore 3205 you into another 312 country 776 where 834 8033 you were not born 3205, and there 8033 you will die 4191.

 22:27 “But as for the land 776 to which 834 they desire 5375 5315 to return 7725, they will not return 7725 to it.

 22:28 “Is this 2088 man 376 Coniah 3078 a despised 959, shattered 5310a jar 6089b? Or 518 is he an undesirable 369 2656 vessel 3627? Why 4069 have he and his descendants 2233 been hurled 2904 out And cast 7993 into a land 776 that they had not known 3045?

 22:29 “O land 776, land 776, land 776, Hear 8085 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068!

 22:30 “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, ‘Write 3789 this 2088 man 1397 down 3789 childless 6185, A man 1397 who will not prosper 6743b in his days 3117; For no 3808 man 376 of his descendants 2233 will prosper 6743b Sitting 3427 on the throne 3678 of David 1732 Or ruling 4910 again 5750 in Judah 3063.’”
