Jeremiah 20

1 Pashur, smiting Jeremiah, receiveth a new name, and a fearful doom. 7 Jeremiah complaineth of contempt, 10 of treachery, 14 and of his birth.

 20:1 When Pashhur 6583 the priest 3548, the son 1121 of Immer 564, who 1931 was chief 5057 officer 6496 in the house 1004 of the LORD 3068, heard 8085 Jeremiah 3414 prophesying 5012 these 428 things 1697,

 20:4 “For thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, ‘Behold 2009, I am going to make 5414 you a terror 4032 to yourself and to all 3605 your friends 157; and while your eyes 5869 look 7200 on, they will fall 5307 by the sword 2719 of their enemies 340.  20:5 ‘I will also give 5414 over all 3605 the wealth 2633 of this 384 city 5892b, all 3605 its produce 3018 and all 3605 its costly 3366 things 3366; even all 3605 the treasures 214 of the kings 4428 of Judah 3063 I will give 5414 over to the hand 3027 of their enemies 340, and they will plunder 962 them, take 3947 them away and bring 935 them to Babylon 894.

 20:6 ‘And you, Pashhur 6583, and all 3605 who live 3427 in your house 1004 will go 1980 into captivity 7628b; and you will enter 935 Babylon 894, and there 8033 you will die 4191 and there 8033 you will be buried 6912, you and all 3605 your friends 157 to whom 834 you have falsely 8267 prophesied 5012.’”

 20:7 ¶ O LORD 3068, You have deceived 6601b me and I was deceived 6601b; You have overcome 2388 me and prevailed 3201. I have become 1961 a laughingstock 7814 all 3605 day 3117 long; Everyone 3605 mocks 3932 me.

 20:8 For each 1767 time 1767 I speak 1696, I cry 2199 aloud 2199; I proclaim 7121 violence 2555 and destruction 7701, Because 3588 for me the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 has resulted 1961 In reproach 2781 and derision 7047 all 3605 day 3117 long.

 20:9 But if I say 559, “I will not remember 2142 Him Or speak 1696 anymore 5750 in His name 8034,” Then in my heart 3820 it becomes 1961 like a burning 1197a fire 784 Shut 6113 up in my bones 6106; And I am weary 3811 of holding 3557 [it] in, And I cannot 3808 endure 3201 [it].

 20:10 For I have heard 8085 the whispering 1681 of many 7227a, “Terror 4032 on every 5439 side 5439! Denounce 5046 [him]; yes, let us denounce 5046 him!” All 3605 my trusted 7965 friends 582 7965, Watching 8104 for my fall 6761, say: “Perhaps 194 he will be deceived 6601b, so that we may prevail 3201 against him And take 3947 our revenge 5360 on him.”

 20:11 But the LORD 3068 is with me like a dread 6184 champion 1368; Therefore 5921 3651 my persecutors 7291 will stumble 3782 and not prevail 3201. They will be utterly 3966 ashamed 954, because 3588 they have failed 3808 7919a, With an everlasting 5769 disgrace 3639 that will not be forgotten 7911.

 20:12 Yet, O LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, You who test 974 the righteous 6662, Who see 7200 the mind 3629 and the heart 3820; Let me see 7200 Your vengeance 5360 on them; For to You I have set 1540 forth 1540 my cause 7379.

 20:13 Sing 7891 to the LORD 3068, praise 1984b the LORD 3068! For He has delivered 5337 the soul 5315 of the needy 34 one 34 From the hand 3027 of evildoers 7489a.

 20:14 ¶ Cursed 779 be the day 3117 when 834 I was born 3205; Let the day 3117 not be blessed 1288 when 834 my mother 517 bore 3205 me!

 20:15 Cursed 779 be the man 376 who 834 brought 1319 the news 1319 To my father 1, saying 559, “A baby 1121 boy 2145 has been born 3205 to you!” [And] made him very 8055 happy 8055.

 20:16 But let that man 376 be like the cities 5892b Which 834 the LORD 3068 overthrew 2015 without 3808 relenting 5162, And let him hear 8085 an outcry 2201 in the morning 1242 And a shout 8643 of alarm 8643 at noon 6672a;

 20:17 Because 834 he did not kill 4191 me before 4480 birth 7358, So that my mother 517 would have been 1961 my grave 6913, And her womb 7358 ever 5769 pregnant 2030.

 20:18 Why 4100 did I ever 2088 come 3318 forth 3318 from the womb 7358 To look 7200 on trouble 5999 and sorrow 3015, So that my days 3117 have been 3615 spent 3615 in shame 1322?
