Jeremiah 21

1 Zedekiah sendeth to Jeremiah to enquire the event of Nebuchadrezzar's war. 3 Jeremiah foretelleth a hard siege and miserable captivity. 8 He counselleth the people to fall to the Chaldeans, 11 and upbraideth the king's house.

 21:1 The word 1697 which 834 came 1961 to Jeremiah 3414 from the LORD 3068 when King 4428 Zedekiah 6667 sent 7971 to him Pashhur 6583 the son 1121 of Malchijah 4441, and Zephaniah 6846 the priest 3548, the son 1121 of Maaseiah 4641, saying 559,

 21:2 “Please 4994 inquire 1875 of the LORD 3068 on our behalf 1157, for Nebuchadnezzar 5019 king 4428 of Babylon 894 is warring 3898a against 5921 us; perhaps 194 the LORD 3068 will deal 6213a with us according to all 3605 His wonderful 6381 acts 6381, so that [the enemy] will withdraw 5927 from us.”

 21:3 ¶ Then Jeremiah 3414 said 559 to them, “You shall say 559 to Zedekiah 6667 as follows 3541:

 21:4 ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478, “Behold 2009, I am about to turn 5437 back 5437 the weapons 3627 of war 4421 which 834 are in your hands 3027, with which 834 you are warring 3898a against 854 the king 4428 of Babylon 894 and the Chaldeans 3778 who are besieging 6696a 5921 you outside 4480 2351 the wall 2346; and I will gather 622 them into the center 8432 of this 384 city 5892b.

 21:5 “I Myself 589 will war 3898a against 854 you with an outstretched 5186 hand 3027 and a mighty 2389 arm 2220, even in anger 639 and wrath 2534 and great 1419 indignation 7110a.

 21:6 “I will also strike 5221 down 5221 the inhabitants 3427 of this 384 city 5892b, both man 120 and beast 929; they will die 4191 of a great 1419 pestilence 1698.

 21:7 “Then afterwards 310 3651,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “I will give 5414 over Zedekiah 6667 king 4428 of Judah 3063 and his servants 5650 and the people 5971a, even those who survive 7604 in this 384 city 5892b from the pestilence 1698, the sword 2719 and the famine 7458, into the hand 3027 of Nebuchadnezzar 5019 king 4428 of Babylon 894, and into the hand 3027 of their foes 340 and into the hand 3027 of those who seek 1245 their lives 5315; and he will strike 5221 them down 5221 with the edge 6310 of the sword 2719. He will not spare 2347 them nor 3808 have 2550 pity 2550 nor 3808 compassion 7355.”’

 21:8 ¶ “You shall also say 559 to this 2088 people 5971a, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “Behold 2009, I set 5414 before 6440 you the way 1870 of life 2425b and the way 1870 of death 4194.

 21:9 “He who dwells 3427 in this 384 city 5892b will die 4191 by the sword 2719 and by famine 7458 and by pestilence 1698; but he who goes 3318 out and falls 5307 away 5307 to the Chaldeans 3778 who are besieging 6696a 5921 you will live 2421a, and he will have 1961 his own life 5315 as booty 7998.

 21:10 “For I have set 7760 My face 6440 against this 384 city 5892b for harm 7463a and not for good 2899b,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068. “It will be given 5414 into the hand 3027 of the king 4428 of Babylon 894 and he will burn 8313 it with fire 784.”’

 21:11 ¶ “Then [say] to the household 1004 of the king 4428 of Judah 3063, ‘Hear 8085 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068,

 21:12 O house 1004 of David 1732, thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068: “Administer 1777 justice 4941 every morning 1242; And deliver 5337 the [person] who has been robbed 1497 from the power 3027 of [his] oppressor 6231, That My wrath 2534 may not go 3318 forth 3318 like fire 784 And burn 1197a with none 369 to extinguish 3518 [it], Because 4480 6440 of the evil 7455 of their deeds 4611.

 21:13 ¶ “Behold 2009, I am against 413 you, O valley 6010 dweller 3427, O rocky 6697 plain 4334,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “You men who say 559, ‘Who 4310 will come 5181 down 5181 against 5921 us? Or who 4310 will enter 935 into our habitations 4585?’

 21:14 “But I will punish 6485 you according to the results 6529 of your deeds 4611,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “And I will kindle 3341 a fire 784 in its forest 3293a That it may devour 398 all 3605 its environs 5439.”’”
