 44:1 ¶
And he commandedººº
the stewardºº
of his house,º
saying,ºº
Fillººº
the men'sºº
sacksº
[with] food,º
as much asº
they canºº
carry,ºº
and putºº
every man'sº
moneyº
in his sack'sº
mouth.º |
|
 44:1 ¶
And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks [with] food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth. |
 44:2
And putºº
my cup,º
the silverº
cup,º
in the sack'sº
mouthº
of the youngest,º
and his cornº
money.º
And he didºº
according to the wordº
thatº
Yôsëf
יוֹסֵףº
had spoken.ºº |
 44:2
And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Yosef had spoken. |
 44:3
As soon as the morningº
was light,ºº
the menºº
were sent away,ºº
theyº
and their asses.º |
 44:3
As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses. |
 44:4
[And] when theyº
were gone outºº
ofºº
the city,º
[and] notº
[yet] far off,ºº
Yôsëf
יוֹסֵףº
saidºº
unto his steward,ººº
Up,ºº
followºº
afterº
the men;ºº
and when thou dost overtakeºº
them, sayºº
untoº
them, Whereforeº
have ye rewardedºº
evilº
forº
good?º |
 44:4
[And] when they were gone out of the city, [and] not [yet] far off, Yosef said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good? |
 44:5
[Is] notº
thisº
[it] in whichº
my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹןº
drinketh,ºº
and whereby indeedºº
he divineth?ººº
ye have done evilºº
in soº
doing.ºº |
 44:5
[Is] not this [it] in which my adon drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evil in so doing. |
 44:6 ¶
And he overtookºº
them, and he spakeºº
untoº
themº
these sameº
words.º |
 44:6 ¶
And he overtook them, and he spake unto them these same words. |
 44:7
And they saidºº
untoº
him, Whereforeº
saithºº
my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹןº
theseº
words?º
God forbidº
that thy servantsº
should doººº
according to thisº
thing:º |
 44:7
And they said unto him, Wherefore saith my adon these words? God forbid that thy servants should do according to this thing: |
 44:8
Behold,º
the money,º
whichº
we foundºº
in our sacks'º
mouths,º
we brought againºº
untoº
thee out of the landºº
of
Cænä`an
כְּנָעַן:º
howº
then should we stealºº
out of thy
´áðôn's
אֲדוֹןº
houseººº
silverº
orº
gold?º |
 44:8
Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks' mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Kenaan: how then should we steal out of thy adon's house silver or gold? |
 44:9
Withº
whomsoeverº
of thy servantsºº
it be found,ºº
both let him die,ºº
and weº
alsoº
will beº
my
´áðôn's
אֲדוֹןº
bondmen.º |
 44:9
With whomsoever of thy servants it be found, both let him die, and we also will be my adon's bondmen. |
 44:10
And he said,ºº
Nowº
alsoºº
[let] itº
[be] according unto your words:ºº
he withº
whomº
it is foundºº
shall beº
my servant;º
and yeº
shall beº
blameless.º |
 44:10
And he said, Now also [let] it [be] according unto your words: he with whom it is found shall be my servant; and ye shall be blameless. |
 44:11
Then they speedilyºº
took downºº
every manºº
his sackº
to the ground,º
and openedºº
every manº
his sack.º |
 44:11
Then they speedily took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack. |
 44:12
And he searched,ºº
[and] beganºº
at the eldest,º
and leftºº
at the youngest:º
and the cupº
was foundºº
in
Binyämîn's
בִּניָמִיןº
sack.º |
 44:12
And he searched, [and] began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Binyamin's sack. |
 44:13
Then they rentºº
their clothes,º
and ladedºº
every manº
his ass,º
and returnedºº
to the city.º |
 44:13
Then they rent their clothes, and laded every man his ass, and returned to the city. |
 44:14 ¶
And
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָהº
and his brethrenº
cameºº
to
Yôsëf's
יוֹסֵףº
house;º
for heº
[was] yetº
there:º
and they fellºº
beforeº
himº
on the ground.º |
 44:14 ¶
And Yehudah and his brethren came to Yosef's house; for he [was] yet there: and they fell before him on the ground. |
 44:15
And
Yôsëf
יוֹסֵףº
saidºº
unto them, Whatº
deedº
[is] thisº
thatº
ye have done?ºº
wotº
yeºº
notº
thatº
such a manº
as Iº
can certainlyºº
divine?ºº |
 44:15
And Yosef said unto them, What deed [is] this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine? |
 44:16
And
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָהº
said,ºº
Whatº
shall we sayºº
unto my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן?º
whatº
shall we speak?ºº
or howº
shall we clear ourselves?ºº
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
hath found outººº
the iniquityº
of thy servants:º
behold,º
we [are] my
´áðôn's
אֲדוֹןº
servants,º
bothº
we,º
and [he] alsoº
with whomºº
the cupº
is found.ºº |
 44:16
And Yehudah said, What shall we say unto my adon? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? Elohim hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we [are] my adon's servants, both we, and [he] also with whom the cup is found. |
 44:17
And he said,ºº
God forbidº
that I should doººº
so:º
[but] the manº
in whoseº
handº
the cupº
is found,ºº
heº
shall beº
my servant;º
and as for you,º
get you upºº
in peaceº
untoº
your father.º |
 44:17
And he said, God forbid that I should do so: [but] the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father. |
 44:18 ¶
Then
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָהº
came nearºº
unto him,º
and said,ºº
Ohº
my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן,º
let thy servant,º
I pray thee,º
speakºº
a wordº
in my
´áðôn's
אֲדוֹןº
ears,º
and let notº
thine angerº
burnºº
against thy servant:º
forº
thou [art] even asº
Par`ò
פַּרעֹה.º |
 44:18 ¶
Then Yehudah came near unto him, and said, Oh my adon, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my adon's ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou [art] even as Paroh. |
 44:19
My
´áðôn
אֲדוֹןº
askedººº
his servants,º
saying,ºº
Haveº
ye a father,º
orº
a brother?º |
 44:19
My adon asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother? |
 44:20
And we saidºº
untoº
my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן,º
We haveº
a father,º
an old man,º
and a childº
of his old age,º
a little one;º
and his brotherº
is dead,ºº
and heº
aloneº
is leftºº
of his mother,º
and his fatherº
lovethºº
him. |
 44:20
And we said unto my adon, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loveth him. |
 44:21
And thou saidstºº
untoº
thy servants,º
Bring him downºº
untoº
me, that I may setºº
mine eyesº
uponº
him. |
 44:21
And thou saidst unto thy servants, Bring him down unto me, that I may set mine eyes upon him. |
 44:22
And we saidºº
untoº
my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן,º
The ladº
cannotººº
leaveººº
his father:º
for [if] he should leaveººº
his father,º
[his father] would die.ºº |
 44:22
And we said unto my adon, The lad cannot leave his father: for [if] he should leave his father, [his father] would die. |
 44:23
And thou saidstºº
untoº
thy servants,º
Exceptºº
your youngestº
brotherº
come downºº
withº
you, ye shall seeººº
my faceº
noº
more.ºººº |
 44:23
And thou saidst unto thy servants, Except your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more. |
 44:24
And it came to passº
whenº
we came upºº
untoº
thy servantº
my father,º
we toldºº
himº
the wordsº
of my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן.º |
 44:24
And it came to pass when we came up unto thy servant my father, we told him the words of my adon. |
 44:25
And our fatherº
said,ºº
Go again,ºº
[and] buyºº
us a littleº
food.º |
 44:25
And our father said, Go again, [and] buy us a little food. |
 44:26
And we said,ºº
We cannotººº
go down:ºº
ifº
our youngestº
brotherº
beº
withº
us, then will we go down:ºº
forº
we mayºº
notº
seeºº
the man'sº
face,º
exceptº
our youngestº
brotherº
[be] withº
us. |
 44:26
And we said, We cannot go down: if our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down: for we may not see the man's face, except our youngest brother [be] with us. |
 44:27
And thy servantº
my fatherº
saidºº
untoº
us, Yeº
knowºº
thatº
my wifeº
bareºº
me twoº
[sons]: |
 44:27
And thy servant my father said unto us, Ye know that my wife bare me two [sons]: |
 44:28
And the oneº
went outºº
fromºº
me, and I said,ºº
Surelyººº
he is torn in pieces;ºº
and I sawº
himºº
notº
since:ºº |
 44:28
And the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not since: |
 44:29
And if ye takeººº
thisº
alsoº
fromºº
me,º
and mischiefº
befallº
him,ºº
ye shall bring downººº
my gray hairsº
with sorrowº
to the grave.º |
 44:29
And if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave. |
 44:30
Nowº
therefore when I comeºº
toº
thy servantº
my father,º
and the ladº
[be] notº
withº
us; seeing that his lifeº
is bound upºº
in the lad's life;º |
 44:30
Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad [be] not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life; |
 44:31
It shall come to pass,º
when he seethºº
thatº
the ladº
[is] notº
[with us], that he will die:ºº
and thy servantsº
shall bring downººº
the gray hairsº
of thy servantº
our fatherº
with sorrowº
to the grave.º |
 44:31
It shall come to pass, when he seeth that the lad [is] not [with us], that he will die: and thy servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave. |
 44:32
Forº
thy servantº
became suretyºº
forº
the ladº
untoºº
my father,º
saying,ºº
Ifº
I bringºº
him notº
untoº
thee, then I shall bear the blameºº
to my fatherº
for ever.ºº |
 44:32
For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father for ever. |
 44:33
Nowº
therefore, I pray thee,º
let thy servantº
abideºº
instead ofº
the ladº
a bondmanº
to my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן;º
and let the ladº
go upºº
withº
his brethren.º |
 44:33
Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my adon; and let the lad go up with his brethren. |
 44:34
Forº
howº
shall I go upºº
toº
my father,º
and the ladº
[be] notº
withº
me? lest peradventureº
I seeºº
the evilº
thatº
shall come onººº
my father.º |
 44:34
For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad [be] not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father. |
