 4:1 ¶
And
´Äðäm
אָדָםºº
knewººº
Çawwà
חַוָּהº
his wife;º
and she conceived,ºº
and bareººº
Kayin
קַיִן,º
and said,ºº
I have gottenºº
a manº
fromº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º |
|
 4:1 ¶
And Adam knew Chawwah his wife; and she conceived, and bare Qayin, and said, I have gotten a man from Yahweh. |
 4:2
And she againºº
bareººº
his brotherºº
Hävel
הָבֶל.º
And
Hävel
הָבֶלº
wasº
a keeperºº
of sheep,º
but
Kayin
קַיִןº
wasº
a tillerºº
of the ground.º |
 4:2
And she again bare his brother Havel. And Havel was a keeper of sheep, but Qayin was a tiller of the ground. |
 4:3
And in processºº
of timeº
it came to pass,º
that
Kayin
קַיִןº
broughtºº
of the fruitºº
of the groundº
an offeringº
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º |
 4:3
And in process of time it came to pass, that Qayin brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto Yahweh. |
 4:4
And
Hävel
הָבֶל,º
heº
alsoº
broughtºº
of the firstlingsºº
of his flockº
and of the fatºº
thereof. And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
had respectºº
untoº
Hävel
הָבֶלº
and toº
his offering:º |
 4:4
And Havel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And Yahweh had respect unto Havel and to his offering: |
 4:5
But untoº
Kayin
קַיִןº
and toº
his offeringº
he had not respect.ººº
And
Kayin
קַיִןº
was veryº
wroth,ºº
and his countenanceº
fell.ºº |
 4:5
But unto Qayin and to his offering he had not respect. And Qayin was very wroth, and his countenance fell. |
 4:6
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
saidºº
untoº
Kayin
קַיִן,º
Whyº
art thou wroth?ºº
and whyº
is thy countenanceº
fallen?ºº |
 4:6
And Yahweh said unto Qayin, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? |
 4:7
Ifº
thou doest well,ºº
shalt thou notº
be accepted?º
and ifº
thou doest notº
well,ºº
sinº
liethºº
at the door.º
And untoº
thee [shall be] his desire,º
and thouº
shalt ruleºº
over him. |
 4:7
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee [shall be] his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. |
 4:8
And
Kayin
קַיִןº
talkedºº
withº
Hävel
הָבֶלº
his brother:º
and it came to pass,º
when they wereº
in the field,º
that
Kayin
קַיִןº
rose upºº
againstº
Hävel
הָבֶלº
his brother,º
and slewº
him.ºº |
 4:8
And Qayin talked with Havel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Qayin rose up against Havel his brother, and slew him. |
 4:9 ¶
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
saidºº
untoº
Kayin
קַיִן,º
Whereº
[is]
Hävel
הָבֶלº
thy brother?º
And he said,ºº
I knowºº
not:º
[Am] Iº
my brother'sº
keeper?ºº |
 4:9 ¶
And Yahweh said unto Qayin, Where [is] Havel thy brother? And he said, I know not: [Am] I my brother's keeper? |
 4:10
And he said,ºº
Whatº
hast thou done?ºº
the voiceº
of thy brother'sº
bloodº
criethºº
untoº
me fromº
the ground.º |
 4:10
And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. |
 4:11
And nowº
[art] thouº
cursedºº
fromº
the earth,º
whichº
hath openedººº
her mouthº
to receiveºº
thy brother'sºº
bloodº
from thy hand;ºº |
 4:11
And now [art] thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; |
 4:12
Whenº
thou tillestººº
the ground,º
it shall notº
henceforthºº
yieldºº
unto thee her strength;º
a fugitiveºº
and a vagabondºº
shalt thou beº
in the earth.º |
 4:12
When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. |
 4:13
And
Kayin
קַיִןº
saidºº
untoº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
My punishmentº
[is] greaterº
than I can bear.ººº |
 4:13
And Qayin said unto Yahweh, My punishment [is] greater than I can bear. |
 4:14
Behold,º
thou hast driven me outººº
this dayº
fromºº
the faceº
of the earth;º
and fromº
thy faceºº
shall I be hid;ºº
and I shall beº
a fugitiveºº
and a vagabondºº
in the earth;º
and it shall come to pass,ºº
[that] every oneº
that findethº
meºº
shall slayº
me.ºº |
 4:14
Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, [that] every one that findeth me shall slay me. |
 4:15
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
saidºº
unto him, Thereforeº
whosoeverº
slayethºº
Kayin
קַיִן,º
vengeance shall be takenºº
on him sevenfold.º
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
setºº
a markº
upon
Kayin
קַיִן,º
lestº
anyº
findingºº
him should killºº
him. |
 4:15
And Yahweh said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Qayin, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And Yahweh set a mark upon Qayin, lest any finding him should kill him. |
