1 Samuel 9

1 Saul despairing to find his father's asses, 6 by the counsel of his servant, 11 and direction of young maidens, 15 according to God's revelation, 18 cometh to Samuel. 19 Samuel entertaineth Saul at the feast. 25 Samuel, after secret communication, bringeth Saul on his way.

 9:1 Now there was a man 376 of Benjamin 1144 whose name 8034 was Kish 7027 the son 1121 of Abiel 22, the son 1121 of Zeror 6872c, the son 1121 of Becorath 1064, the son 1121 of Aphiah 647b, the son 1121 of a Benjamite 376 3228, a mighty 1368 man 1368 of valor 2428.

 9:2 He had 1961 a son 1121 whose name 8034 was Saul 7586, a choice 970 and handsome 2896a [man], and there 369 was not a more 4480 2896a handsome 2896a person 376 than 4480 he among 4480 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478; from his shoulders 7926 and up he was taller 1364 than 4480 any 3605 of the people 5971a.

 9:3 ¶ Now the donkeys 860 of Kish 7027, Saul’s 7586 father 1, were lost 6. So Kish 7027 said 559 to his son 1121 Saul 7586, “Take 3947 now 4994 with you one 259 of the servants 5288, and arise 6965, go 1980 search 1245 for the donkeys 860.”

 9:4 He passed 5674a through the hill 2022 country 2022 of Ephraim 669 and passed 5674a through the land 776 of Shalishah 8031, but they did not find 4672 [them]. Then they passed 5674a through the land 776 of Shaalim 8171, but [they were] not [there]. Then he passed 5674a through the land 776 of the Benjamites 1145, but they did not find 4672 [them].

 9:5 ¶ When they came 935 to the land 776 of Zuph 6689, Saul 7586 said 559 to his servant 5288 who 834 was with him, “Come 1980, and let us return 7725, or 6435 else 6435 my father 1 will cease 2308 [to be concerned] about 4480 the donkeys 860 and will become 1672 anxious 1672 for us.”

 9:6 He said 559 to him, “Behold 2009 now 4994, there is a man 376 of God 430 in this 2088 city 5892b, and the man 376 is held 3513 in honor 3513; all 3605 that he says 1696 surely 935 comes 935 true. Now 6258 let us go 1980 there 8033, perhaps 194 he can tell 5046 us about our journey 1870 on which 834 we have set 1980 out.”

 9:7 Then Saul 7586 said 559 to his servant 5288, “But behold 2009, if we go 1980, what 4100 shall we bring 935 the man 376? For the bread 3899 is gone 235 from our sack 3627 and there 369 is no 369 present 8670 to bring 935 to the man 376 of God 430. What 4100 do we have 854?”

 9:8 The servant 5288 answered 6030a Saul 7586 again 3254 and said 559, “Behold 2009, I have 4672 in my hand 3027 a fourth 7253 of a shekel 8255 of silver 3701; I will give 5414 [it] to the man 376 of God 430 and he will tell 5046 us our way 1870.”

 9:9 (Formerly 6440 in Israel 3478, when a man 376 went 1980 to inquire 1875 of God 430, he used to say 559, “Come 1980, and let us go 1980 to the seer 7203a”; for [he who is called] a prophet 5030 now 3117 was formerly 6440 called 7121 a seer 7203a.)

 9:10 Then Saul 7586 said 559 to his servant 5288, “Well 2896a said 1697; come 1980, let us go 1980.” So they went 1980 to the city 5892b where 834 8033 the man 376 of God 430 was.

 9:11 ¶ As they went 5927 up the slope 4608 to the city 5892b, they found 4672 young 5291 women 5291 going 3318 out to draw 7579 water 4325 and said 559 to them, “Is the seer 7203a here 2088?”

 9:12 They answered 6030a them and said 559, “He is; see 2009, [he is] ahead 6440 of you. Hurry 4116 now 6258, for he has come 935 into the city 5892b today 3117, for the people 5971a have a sacrifice 2077 on the high 1116 place 1116 today 3117.

 9:13 “As soon as you enter 935 the city 5892b you will find 4672 him before 2962 he goes 5927 up to the high 1116 place 1116 to eat 398, for the people 5971a will not eat 398 until 5704 he comes 935, because 3588 he must bless 1288 the sacrifice 2077; afterward 310 3651 those who are invited 7121 will eat 398. Now 6258 therefore, go 5927 up for you will find 4672 him at once 3117.”

 9:14 So they went 5927 up to the city 5892b. As they came 935 into the city 5892b, behold 2009, Samuel 8050 was coming 3318 out toward 7122 them to go 5927 up to the high 1116 place 1116.

 9:15 ¶ Now a day 3117 before 6440 Saul’s 7586 coming 935, the LORD 3068 had revealed 1540 241 [this] to Samuel 8050 saying 559,

 9:16 “About this time 6256 tomorrow 4279 I will send 7971 you a man 376 from the land 776 of Benjamin 1144, and you shall anoint 4886 him to be prince 5057 over 5921 My people 5971a Israel 3478; and he will deliver 3467 My people 5971a from the hand 3027 of the Philistines 6430. For I have regarded 7200 My people 5971a, because 3588 their cry 6818 has come 935 to Me.”

 9:17 When Samuel 8050 saw 7200 Saul 7586, the LORD 3068 said 6030a to him, “Behold 2009, the man 376 of whom 834 I spoke 559 to you! This 2088 one 2088 shall rule 6113 over My people 5971a.”

 9:18 Then Saul 7586 approached 5066 Samuel 8050 in the gate 8179 and said 559, “Please 4994 tell 5046 me where 335 the seer’s 7203a house 1004 is.”

 9:19 Samuel 8050 answered 6030a Saul 7586 and said 559, “I am the seer 7203a. Go 5927 up before 6440 me to the high 1116 place 1116, for you shall eat 398 with me today 3117; and in the morning 1242 I will let 7971 you go 7971, and will tell 5046 you all 3605 that is on your mind 3824.

 9:20 “As for your donkeys 860 which were lost 6 three 7969 days 3117 ago 3117, do not set 7760 your mind 3820 on them, for they have been found 4672. And for whom 4310 is all 3605 that is desirable 2532 in Israel 3478? Is it not for you and for all 3605 your father’s 1 household 1004?”

 9:21 Saul 7586 replied 6030a, “Am I not a Benjamite 1145, of the smallest 6996a of the tribes 7626 of Israel 3478, and my family 4940 the least 6810 of all 3605 the families 4940 of the tribe 7626 of Benjamin 1144? Why 4100 then do you speak 1696 to me in this 2088 way 1697?”

 9:22 ¶ Then Samuel 8050 took 3947 Saul 7586 and his servant 5288 and brought 935 them into the hall 3957 and gave 5414 them a place 4725 at the head 7218 of those who were invited 7121, who 1992a were about thirty 7970 men 376.

 9:23 Samuel 8050 said 559 to the cook 2876, “Bring 5414 the portion 4490 that I gave 5414 you, concerning which 834 I said 559 to you, ‘Set 7760 it aside 5973.’”

 9:24 Then the cook 2876 took 7311 up the leg 7785 with what was on it and set 7760 [it] before 6440 Saul 7586. And [Samuel] said 559, “Here 2009 is what has been reserved 7604! Set 7760 [it] before 6440 you [and] eat 398, because 3588 it has been kept 8104 for you until the appointed 4150 time 4150, since I said 559 I have invited 7121 the people 5971a.” So Saul 7586 ate 398 with Samuel 8050 that day 3117.

 9:25 ¶ When they came 3381 down 3381 from the high 1116 place 1116 into the city 5892b, [Samuel] spoke 1696 with Saul 7586 on the roof 1406.

 9:26 And they arose 7925 early 7925; and at daybreak 7837 Samuel 8050 called 7121 to Saul 7586 on the roof 1406, saying 559, “Get 6965 up, that I may send 7971 you away 7971.” So Saul 7586 arose 6965, and both 8147 he and Samuel 8050 went 3318 out into the street 2351.

 9:27 As they were going 3381 down 3381 to the edge 7097a of the city 5892b, Samuel 8050 said 559 to Saul 7586, “Say 559 to the servant 5288 that he might go 5674a ahead 6440 of us and pass 5674a on, but you remain standing 5975 now 3117, that I may proclaim 8085 the word 1697 of God 430 to you.”
