1 Samuel 11

1 Nahash offereth them of Jabesh-gilead a reproachful condition. 4 They send messengers, and are delivered by Saul. 12 Saul thereby is confirmed, and his kingdom renewed.

 11:1 Now Nahash 5176 the Ammonite 5984 came 5927 up and besieged 2583 5921 Jabesh-gilead 3003 1568; and all 3605 the men 376 of Jabesh 3003 said 559 to Nahash 5176, “Make 3772 a covenant 1285 with us and we will serve 5647 you.”

 11:2 But Nahash 5176 the Ammonite 5984 said 559 to them, “I will make 3772 [it] with you on this 2088 condition, that I will gouge 5365 out the right 3225 eye 5869 of every 3605 one 3605 of you, thus I will make 7760 it a reproach 2781 on all 3605 Israel 3478.”

 11:3 The elders 2205 of Jabesh 3003 said 559 to him, “Let 7503 us alone 7503 for seven 7651 days 3117, that we may send 7971 messengers 4397 throughout 3605 the territory 1366 of Israel 3478. Then, if 518 there 369 is no 369 one 369 to deliver 3467 us, we will come 3318 out to you.”

 11:4 Then the messengers 4397 came 935 to Gibeah 1390 of Saul 7586 and spoke 1696 these words 1697 in the hearing 241 of the people 5971a, and all 3605 the people 5971a lifted 5375 up their voices 6963 and wept 1058.

 11:5 ¶ Now behold 2009, Saul 7586 was coming 935 from the field 7704 behind 310 the oxen 1241, and he said 559, “What 4100 is [the matter] with the people 5971a that they weep 1058?” So they related 5608 to him the words 1697 of the men 376 of Jabesh 3003.

 11:6 Then the Spirit 7307 of God 430 came 6743a upon Saul 7586 mightily 6743a when he heard 8085 these 428 words 1697, and he became 2734 very 3966 angry 639 2734.

 11:7 He took 3947 a yoke 6776 of oxen 1241 and cut 5408 them in pieces 5408, and sent 7971 [them] throughout 3605 the territory 1366 of Israel 3478 by the hand 3027 of messengers 4397, saying 559, “Whoever 834 does not come 3318 out after 310 Saul 7586 and after 310 Samuel 8050, so 3541 shall it be done 6213a to his oxen 1241.” Then the dread 6343 of the LORD 3068 fell 5307 on the people 5971a, and they came 3318 out as one 259 man 376.

 11:8 He numbered 6485 them in Bezek 966; and the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 were 300,000 7969 3967 505, and the men 376 of Judah 3063 30,000 7970 505.

 11:9 They said 559 to the messengers 4397 who had come 935, “Thus 3541 you shall say 559 to the men 376 of Jabesh-gilead 3003 1568, ‘Tomorrow 4279, by the time the sun 8121 is hot 2552, you will have 1961 deliverance 8668.’” So the messengers 4397 went 935 and told 5046 the men 376 of Jabesh 3003; and they were glad 8055.

 11:10 Then the men 376 of Jabesh 3003 said 559, “Tomorrow 4279 we will come 3318 out to you, and you may do 6213a to us whatever 3605 seems good 2896a to you.”

 11:11 The next 4283 morning 4283 Saul 7586 put 7760 the people 5971a in three 7969 companies 7218; and they came 935 into the midst 8432 of the camp 4264 at the morning 1242 watch 821 and struck 5221 down 5221 the Ammonites 5983 until 5704 the heat 2527 of the day 3117. Those who survived 7604 were scattered 6327a, so that no 3808 two 8147 of them were left 7604 together 3162.

 11:12 ¶ Then the people 5971a said 559 to Samuel 8050, “Who 4310 is he that said 559, ‘Shall Saul 7586 reign 4427a over 5921 us?’ Bring 5414 the men 376, that we may put 4191 them to death 4191.”

 11:13 But Saul 7586 said 559, “Not a man 376 shall be put 4191 to death 4191 this 2088 day 3117, for today 3117 the LORD 3068 has accomplished 6213a deliverance 8668 in Israel 3478.”

 11:14 ¶ Then Samuel 8050 said 559 to the people 5971a, “Come 1980 and let us go 1980 to Gilgal 1537 and renew 2318 the kingdom 4410 there 8033.”

 11:15 So all 3605 the people 5971a went 1980 to Gilgal 1537, and there 8033 they made 4427a Saul 7586 king 4427a before 6440 the LORD 3068 in Gilgal 1537. There 8033 they also offered 2076 sacrifices 2077 of peace 8002 offerings 8002 before 6440 the LORD 3068; and there 8033 Saul 7586 and all 3605 the men 376 of Israel 3478 rejoiced 8055 greatly 3966.
