1 Hannah's song in thankfulness. 12 The sin of Eli's sons. 18 Samuel's ministry. 20 By Eli's blessing Hannah is more fruitful. 22 Eli reproveth his sons. 27 A prophecy against Eli's house.

 2:1 Then Hannah 2584 prayed 6419 and said 559, “My heart 3820 exults 5970 in the LORD 3068; My horn 7161 is exalted 7311 in the LORD 3068, My mouth 6310 speaks 7337 boldly 7337 against 5921 my enemies 340, Because 3588 I rejoice 8055 in Your salvation 3444.

 2:2 “There 369 is no 369 one 369 holy 6918 like the LORD 3068, Indeed 3588, there 369 is no 369 one 369 besides 1115 You, Nor 369 is there 369 any rock 6697 like our God 430.

 2:3 “Boast 1696 7235a no 408 more 7235a so very 1364 proudly 1364, Do not let arrogance 6277 come 3318 out of your mouth 6310; For the LORD 3068 is a God 410 of knowledge 1844, And with Him actions 5949 are weighed 8505.

 2:4 “The bows 7198 of the mighty 1368 are shattered 2844b, But the feeble 3782 gird 247 on strength 2428.

 2:5 “Those who were full 7649 hire 7936 themselves out for bread 3899, But those who were hungry 7457 cease 2308 [to hunger]. Even 5704 the barren 6135 gives 3205 birth 3205 to seven 7651, But she who has many 7227a children 1121 languishes 535.

 2:6 “The LORD 3068 kills 4191 and makes 2421a alive 2421a; He brings 3381 down 3381 to Sheol 7585 and raises 5927 up.

 2:7 “The LORD 3068 makes 3423 poor 3423 and rich 6238; He brings 8213 low 8213, He also 637 exalts 7311.

 2:8 “He raises 6965 the poor 1800b from the dust 6083, He lifts 7311 the needy 34 from the ash 830 heap 6083 To make them sit 3427 with nobles 5081, And inherit 5157 a seat 3678 of honor 3519b; For the pillars 4690 of the earth 776 are the LORD’S 3068, And He set 7896 the world 8398 on them.

 2:9 “He keeps 8104 the feet 7272 of His godly 2623 ones 2623, But the wicked 7563 ones 7563 are silenced 1826a in darkness 2822; For not by might 3581b shall a man 376 prevail 1396.

 2:10 “Those who contend 7378 with the LORD 3068 will be shattered 2865; Against 5921 them He will thunder 7481 in the heavens 8064, The LORD 3068 will judge 1777 the ends 657 of the earth 776; And He will give 5414 strength 5797 to His king 4428, And will exalt 7311 the horn 7161 of His anointed 4899.”

 2:11 ¶ Then Elkanah 511 went 1980 to his home 1004 at Ramah 7414. But the boy 5288 ministered 8334 to the LORD 3068 before 6440 Eli 5941 the priest 3548.

 2:12 ¶ Now the sons 1121 of Eli 5941 were worthless 1100 men 1121; they did not know 3045 the LORD 3068

 2:13 and the custom 4941 of the priests 3548 with the people 5971a. When any 3605 man 376 was offering 2076 a sacrifice 2077, the priest’s 3548 servant 5288 would come 935 while the meat 1320 was boiling 1310, with a three-pronged 7969 8127 fork 4207a in his hand 3027.

 2:14 Then he would thrust 5221 it into the pan 3595, or 176 kettle 1731, or 176 caldron 7037, or 176 pot 6517; all 3605 that the fork 4207a brought 5927 up the priest 3548 would take 3947 for himself. Thus 3602 they did 6213a in Shiloh 7887 to all 3605 the Israelites 3478 who came 935 there 8033.

 2:15 Also 1571, before 2962 they burned 6999 the fat 2459, the priest’s 3548 servant 5288 would come 935 and say 559 to the man 376 who was sacrificing 2076, “Give 5414 the priest 3548 meat 1320 for roasting 6740, as he will not take 3947 boiled 1310 meat 1320 from you, only 3588 518 raw 2416a.”

 2:16 If 518 the man 376 said 559 to him, “They must surely 6999 burn 6999 the fat 2459 first 3117, and then take 3947 as much 3512c as you desire 183,” then he would say 559, “No 3808, but you shall give 5414 [it to me] now 6258; and if 518 not, I will take 3947 it by force 2394.”

 2:17 Thus the sin 2403b of the young 5288 men 5288 was very 3966 great 1419 before 6440 the LORD 3068, for the men 376 despised 5006 the offering 4503 of the LORD 3068.

 2:18 ¶ Now Samuel 8050 was ministering 8334 before 6440 the LORD 3068, [as] a boy 5288 wearing 2296 a linen 906 ephod 646.

 2:19 And his mother 517 would make 6213a him a little 6996b robe 4598 and bring 5927 it to him from year 3117 to year 3117 when she would come 5927 up with her husband 376 to offer 2076 the yearly 3117 sacrifice 2077.

 2:20 Then Eli 5941 would bless 1288 Elkanah 511 and his wife 802 and say 559, “May the LORD 3068 give 7760 you children 2233 from this 2088 woman 802 in place 8478 of the one 7596 she dedicated 7596 7592 to the LORD 3068.” And they went 1980 to their own home 4725.

 2:21 ¶ The LORD 3068 visited 6485 Hannah 2584; and she conceived 2029 and gave 3205 birth 3205 to three 7969 sons 1121 and two 8147 daughters 1323. And the boy 5288 Samuel 8050 grew 1431 before 5973 the LORD 3068.

 2:22 ¶ Now Eli 5941 was very 3966 old 2204; and he heard 8085 all 3605 that his sons 1121 were doing 6213a to all 3605 Israel 3478, and how 854 834 they lay 7901 with the women 802 who served 6633 at the doorway 6607 of the tent 168 of meeting 4150.

 2:23 He said 559 to them, “Why 4100 do you do 6213a such 428 things 1697, the evil 7451a things 1697 that I hear 8085 from all 3605 these 428 people 5971a?

 2:24 “No 408, my sons 1121; for the report 8052 is not good 2896a which 834 I hear 8085 the LORD’S 3068 people 5971a circulating 5674a.

 2:25 “If 518 one man 376 sins 2398 against another 376, God 430 will mediate 6419 for him; but if 518 a man 376 sins 2398 against the LORD 3068, who 4310 can intercede 6419 for him?” But they would not listen 8085 to the voice 6963 of their father 1, for the LORD 3068 desired 2654a to put 4191 them to death 4191.

 2:26 ¶ Now the boy 5288 Samuel 8050 was growing 1980 1432 in stature 1432 and in favor 2896a both 1571 with the LORD 3068 and with men 376.

 2:27 ¶ Then a man 376 of God 430 came 935 to Eli 5941 and said 559 to him, “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, ‘Did I [not] indeed 1540 reveal 1540 Myself to the house 1004 of your father 1 when they were in Egypt 4714 [in bondage] to Pharaoh’s 6547 house 1004?

 2:28 ‘Did I [not] choose 977 them from all 3605 the tribes 7626 of Israel 3478 to be My priests 3548, to go 5927 up to My altar 4196, to burn 6999 incense 7004, to carry 5375 an ephod 646 before 6440 Me; and did I [not] give 5414 to the house 1004 of your father 1 all 3605 the fire 801 [offerings] of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478?

 2:29 ‘Why 4100 do you kick 1163 at My sacrifice 2077 and at My offering 4503 which 834 I have commanded 6680 [in My] dwelling 4583, and honor 3513 your sons 1121 above 4480 Me, by making 1254b yourselves fat 1254b with the choicest 7225 of every 3605 offering 4503 of My people 5971a Israel 3478?’

 2:30 “Therefore 3651 the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478 declares 5002, ‘I did indeed 559 say 559 that your house 1004 and the house 1004 of your father 1 should walk 1980 before 6440 Me forever 5704 5769’; but now 6258 the LORD 3068 declares 5002, ‘Far 2486 be it from Me—for those who honor 3513 Me I will honor 3513, and those who despise 959 Me will be lightly 7043 esteemed 7043.

 2:31 ‘Behold 2009, the days 3117 are coming 935 when I will break 1438 your strength 2220 and the strength 2220 of your father’s 1 house 1004 so 4480 that there will not be an old 2205 man 2205 in your house 1004.

 2:32 ‘You will see 5027 the distress 6862b of [My] dwelling 4583, in [spite of] all 3605 the good 3190 that I do 3190 for Israel 3478; and an old 2205 man 2205 will not be in your house 1004 forever 3605 3117.

 2:33 ‘Yet I will not cut 3772 off 3772 every 376 man 376 of yours from My altar 4196 so that your eyes 5869 will fail 3615 [from weeping] and your soul 5315 grieve 109, and all 3605 the increase 4768 of your house 1004 will die 4191 in the prime 376 of life 582.

 2:34 ‘This 2088 will be the sign 226 to you which 834 will come 935 concerning 413 your two 8147 sons 1121, Hophni 2652 and Phinehas 6372: on the same 259 day 3117 both 8147 of them will die 4191.

 2:35 ‘But I will raise 6965 up for Myself a faithful 539 priest 3548 who will do 6213a according to what 834 is in My heart 3824 and in My soul 5315; and I will build 1129 him an enduring 539 house 1004, and he will walk 1980 before 6440 My anointed 4899 always 3605 3117.

 2:36 ‘Everyone 3605 who is left 3498 in your house 1004 will come 935 and bow 7812 down 7812 to him for a piece 95 of silver 3701 or a loaf 3603 of bread 3899 and say 559, “Please 4994 assign 5596 me to one 259 of the priest’s 3550 offices 3550 so that I may eat 398 a piece 6595 of bread 3899.”’”
