1 Samuel 28

1 Achish putteth confidence in David. 3 Saul having destroyed the witches, 4 and now in his fear forsaken by God, 7 seeketh a witch. 9 The witch, encouraged by Saul, raiseth up Samuel. 15 Saul, hearing his ruin, fainteth. 21 The woman with his servants refresh him with meat.

 28:1 Now it came 1961 about in those 1992a days 3117 that the Philistines 6430 gathered 6908 their armed camps 4264 for war 6633, to fight 3898a against Israel 3478. And Achish 397 said 559 to David 1732, “Know 3045 assuredly 3045 that you will go 3318 out with me in the camp 4264, you and your men 376.”

 28:2 David 1732 said 559 to Achish 397, “Very 3651 well 3651, you shall know 3045 what 834 your servant 5650 can do 6213a.” So Achish 397 said 559 to David 1732, “Very 3651 well 3651, I will make 7760 you my bodyguard 8104 7218 for life 3605 3117.”

 28:3 ¶ Now Samuel 8050 was dead 4191, and all 3605 Israel 3478 had lamented 5594 him and buried 6912 him in Ramah 7414, his own city 5892b. And Saul 7586 had removed 5493 from the land 776 those who were mediums 178 and spiritists 3049.

 28:4 So the Philistines 6430 gathered 6908 together and came 935 and camped 2583 in Shunem 7766; and Saul 7586 gathered 6908 all 3605 Israel 3478 together and they camped 2583 in Gilboa 1533.

 28:5 When Saul 7586 saw 7200 the camp 4264 of the Philistines 6430, he was afraid 3372a and his heart 3820 trembled 2729 greatly 3966.

 28:6 When Saul 7586 inquired 7592 of the LORD 3068, the LORD 3068 did not answer 6030a him, either 1571 by dreams 2472 or 1571 by Urim 224 or 1571 by prophets 5030.

 28:7 Then Saul 7586 said 559 to his servants 5650, “Seek 1875 for me a woman 802 who is a medium 1172 178, that I may go 1980 to her and inquire 1875 of her.” And his servants 5650 said 559 to him, “Behold 2009, there is a woman 802 who is a medium 1172 178 at En-dor 5874.”

 28:8 ¶ Then Saul 7586 disguised 2664 himself by putting 3847 on other 312 clothes 899b, and went 1980, he and two 8147 men 376 with him, and they came 935 to the woman 802 by night 3915; and he said 559, “Conjure 7080 up for me, please 4994, and bring 5927 up for me whom 834 I shall name 559 to you.”

 28:9 But the woman 802 said 559 to him, “Behold 2009, you know 3045 what 834 Saul 7586 has done 6213a, how 834 he has cut 3772 off 3772 those who are mediums 178 and spiritists 3049 from the land 776. Why 4100 are you then laying 5367 a snare 5367 for my life 5315 to bring 4191 about my death 4191?”

 28:10 Saul 7586 vowed 7650 to her by the LORD 3068, saying 559, “As the LORD 3068 lives 2416a, no 518 punishment 5771 shall come 7136a upon you for this 2088 thing 1697.”

 28:11 Then the woman 802 said 559, “Whom 4310 shall I bring 5927 up for you?” And he said 559, “Bring 5927 up Samuel 8050 for me.”

 28:12 When the woman 802 saw 7200 Samuel 8050, she cried 2199 out with a loud 1419 voice 6963; and the woman 802 spoke 559 to Saul 7586, saying 559, “Why 4100 have you deceived 7411b me? For you are Saul 7586.”

 28:13 The king 4428 said 559 to her, “Do not be afraid 3372a; but what 4100 do you see 7200?” And the woman 802 said 559 to Saul 7586, “I see 7200 a divine 430 being 430 coming 5927 up out of the earth 776.”

 28:14 He said 559 to her, “What 4100 is his form 8389?” And she said 559, “An old 2205 man 376 is coming 5927 up, and he is wrapped 5844a with a robe 4598.” And Saul 7586 knew 3045 that it was Samuel 8050, and he bowed 6915 with his face 639 to the ground 776 and did homage 7812.

 28:15 ¶ Then Samuel 8050 said 559 to Saul 7586, “Why 4100 have you disturbed 7264 me by bringing 5927 me up?” And Saul 7586 answered 6030a, “I am greatly 3966 distressed 6887a; for the Philistines 6430 are waging 3898a war 3898a against me, and God 430 has departed 5493 from me and no 3808 longer 5750 answers 6030a me, either 1571 through 3027 prophets 5030 or 1571 by dreams 2472; therefore I have called 7121 you, that you may make 3045 known 3045 to me what 4100 I should do 6213a.”

 28:16 Samuel 8050 said 559, “Why 4100 then do you ask 7592 me, since the LORD 3068 has departed 5493 from you and has become 1961 your adversary 6145?

 28:17 “The LORD 3068 has done 6213a accordingly 3512c as He spoke 1696 through 3027 me; for the LORD 3068 has torn 7167 the kingdom 4467 out of your hand 3027 and given 5414 it to your neighbor 7453, to David 1732.

 28:18 “As you did not obey 8085 6963 the LORD 3068 and did not execute 6213a His fierce 2740 wrath 639 on Amalek 6002, so 5921 3651 the LORD 3068 has done 6213a this 2088 thing 1697 to you this 2088 day 3117.

 28:19 “Moreover the LORD 3068 will also 1571 give 5414 over Israel 3478 along 5973 with you into the hands 3027 of the Philistines 6430, therefore tomorrow 4279 you and your sons 1121 will be with me. Indeed 1571 the LORD 3068 will give 5414 over the army 4264 of Israel 3478 into the hands 3027 of the Philistines 6430!”

 28:20 ¶ Then Saul 7586 immediately 4116 fell 5307 full 4393 length 6967 upon the ground 776 and was very 3966 afraid 3372a because 4480 of the words 1697 of Samuel 8050; also 1571 there was no 3808 strength 3581b in him, for he had eaten 398 no 3808 food 3899 all 3605 day 3117 and all 3605 night 3915.

 28:21 The woman 802 came 935 to Saul 7586 and saw 7200 that he was terrified 926, and said 559 to him, “Behold 2009, your maidservant 8198 has obeyed 8085 6963 you, and I have taken 7760 my life 5315 in my hand 3709 and have listened 8085 to your words 1697 which 834 you spoke 1696 to me.

 28:22 “So now 6258 also 1571, please 4994 listen 8085 to the voice 6963 of your maidservant 8198, and let me set 7760 a piece 6595 of bread 3899 before 6440 you that [you may] eat 398 and have 1961 strength 3581b when 3588 you go 1980 on [your] way 1870.”

 28:23 But he refused 3985 and said 559, “I will not eat 398.” However, his servants 5650 together 1571 with the woman 802 urged 6555 him, and he listened 8085 to them. So he arose 6965 from the ground 776 and sat 3427 on the bed 4296.

 28:24 The woman 802 had a fattened 4770 calf 5695 in the house 1004, and she quickly 4116 slaughtered 2076 it; and she took 3947 flour 7058, kneaded 3888 it and baked 644 unleavened 4682 bread 4682 from it.

 28:25 She brought 5066 [it] before 6440 Saul 7586 and his servants 5650, and they ate 398. Then they arose 6965 and went 1980 away that night 3915.
