1 Samuel 6

1 After seven months the Philistines take counsel how to send back the Ark. 10 They bring it on a new cart with an offering unto Beth-shemesh. 19 The people are smitten for looking into the Ark. 21 They send to them of Kirjath-Jearim to fetch it.

 6:1 Now the ark 727 of the LORD 3068 had been 1961 in the country 7704 of the Philistines 6430 seven 7651 months 2320.

 6:2 And the Philistines 6430 called 7121 for the priests 3548 and the diviners 7080, saying 559, “What 4100 shall we do 6213a with the ark 727 of the LORD 3068? Tell 3045 us how 4100 we shall send 7971 it to its place 4725.”

 6:3 They said 559, “If 518 you send 7971 away 7971 the ark 727 of the God 430 of Israel 3478, do not send 7971 it empty 7387; but you shall surely 7725 return 7725 to Him a guilt 817 offering 817. Then 227 you will be healed 7495 and it will be known 3045 to you why 4100 His hand 3027 is not removed 5493 from you.”

 6:4 Then they said 559, “What 4100 shall be the guilt 817 offering 817 which 834 we shall return 7725 to Him?” And they said 559, “Five 2568 golden 2091 tumors 6076b and five 2568 golden 2091 mice 5909 [according to] the number 4557 of the lords 5633a of the Philistines 6430, for one 259 plague 4046 was on all 3605 of you and on your lords 5633a.

 6:5 “So you shall make 6213a likenesses 6754 of your tumors 6076b and likenesses 6754 of your mice 5909 that ravage 7843 the land 776, and you shall give 5414 glory 3519b to the God 430 of Israel 3478; perhaps 194 He will ease 7043 His hand 3027 from you, your gods 430, and your land 776.

 6:6 “Why 4100 then do you harden 3513 your hearts 3824 as the Egyptians 4714 and Pharaoh 6547 hardened 3513 their hearts 3820? When 3512c He had severely 5953a dealt 5953a with them, did they not allow the people to go 7971, and they departed 1980?

 6:7 “Now 6258 therefore, take 3947 and prepare 6213a a new 2319 cart 5699 and two 8147 milch 5783 cows 6510 on which 834 there has never 3808 been 5927 a yoke 5923; and hitch 631 the cows 6510 to the cart 5699 and take 7725 their calves 1121 home 1004, away 310 from them.

 6:8 “Take 3947 the ark 727 of the LORD 3068 and place 5414 it on the cart 5699; and put 7760 the articles 3627 of gold 2091 which 834 you return 7725 to Him as a guilt 817 offering 817 in a box 712 by its side 6654. Then send 7971 it away 7971 that it may go 1980.

 6:9 “Watch 7200, if 518 it goes 5927 up by the way 1870 of its own territory 1366 to Beth-shemesh 1053, then He has done 6213a us this 2088 great 1419 evil 7463a. But if 518 not, then we will know 3045 that it was not His hand 3027 that struck 5060 us; it happened 1961 to us by chance 4745.”

 6:10 ¶ Then the men 376 did 6213a so 3651, and took 3947 two 8147 milch 5763 cows 6510 and hitched 631 them to the cart 5699, and shut 3607 up their calves 1121 at home 1004.

 6:11 They put 7760 the ark 727 of the LORD 3068 on the cart 5699, and the box 712 with the golden 2091 mice 5909 and the likenesses 6754 of their tumors 2914.

 6:12 And the cows 6510 took 3474 the straight 3474 way 1870 in the direction 1870 of Beth-shemesh 1053; they went 1980 along the highway 4546, lowing 1600 as they went 1980, and did not turn 5493 aside 5493 to the right 3225 or to the left 8040. And the lords 5633a of the Philistines 6430 followed 1980 310 them to the border 1366 of Beth-shemesh 1053.

 6:13 ¶ Now [the people of] Beth-shemesh 1053 were reaping 7114b their wheat 2406 harvest 7105a in the valley 6010, and they raised 5375 their eyes 5869 and saw 7200 the ark 727 and were glad 8055 to see 7200 [it].

 6:14 The cart 5699 came 935 into the field 7704 of Joshua 3091 the Beth-shemite 1030 and stood 5975 there 8033 where 8033 there 8033 [was] a large 1419 stone 68; and they split 1234 the wood 6086 of the cart 5699 and offered 5927 the cows 6510 as a burnt 5930a offering 5930a to the LORD 3068.

 6:15 The Levites 3881 took 3381 down 3381 the ark 727 of the LORD 3068 and the box 712 that was with it, in which 834 were the articles 3627 of gold 2091, and put 7760 them on the large 1419 stone 68; and the men 376 of Beth-shemesh 1053 offered 5927 burnt 5930a offerings 5930a and sacrificed 2076 sacrifices 2077 that day 3117 to the LORD 3068.

 6:16 When the five 2568 lords 5633a of the Philistines 6430 saw 7200 it, they returned 7725 to Ekron 6138 that day 3117.

 6:17 ¶ These 428 are the golden 2091 tumors 2914 which 834 the Philistines 6430 returned 7725 for a guilt 817 offering 817 to the LORD 3068: one 259 for Ashdod 795, one 259 for Gaza 5804a, one 259 for Ashkelon 831, one 259 for Gath 1661, one 259 for Ekron 6138;

 6:18 and the golden 2091 mice 5909, [according] to the number 4557 of all 3605 the cities 5892b of the Philistines 6430 belonging to the five 2568 lords 5633a, both 4480 of fortified 4013 cities 5892b and of country 6521 villages 3724d. The large 1419 stone 68 on which 834 they set 5117 the ark 727 of the LORD 3068 [is a witness] to this 2088 day 3117 in the field 7704 of Joshua 3091 the Beth-shemite 1030.

 6:19 ¶ He struck 5221 down 5221 some of the men 376 of Beth-shemesh 1053 because 3588 they had looked 7200 into the ark 727 of the LORD 3068. He struck 5221 down 5221 of all the people 5971a, 50,070 7657 2572 505 men 376, and the people 5971a mourned 56 because 3588 the LORD 3068 had struck 5221 the people 5971a with a great 1419 slaughter 4347.

 6:20 The men 376 of Beth-shemesh 1053 said 559, “Who 4310 is able 3201 to stand 5975 before 6440 the LORD 3068, this 2088 holy 6918 God 430? And to whom 4310 shall He go 5927 up from us?”

 6:21 So they sent 7971 messengers 4397 to the inhabitants 3427 of Kiriath-jearim 7157, saying 559, “The Philistines 6430 have brought 7725 back 7725 the ark 727 of the LORD 3068; come 3381 down 3381 and take 5927 it up to you.”
