1 Samuel 30

1 The Amalekites spoil Ziklag. 4 David asking counsel is encouraged by God to pursue them. 11 By the means of a revived Egyptian he is brought to the enemies, and recovereth all the spoil. 22 David's law to divide the spoil equally between them that fight and them that keep the stuff. 26 He sendeth presents to his friends.

 30:1 Then it happened 1961 when David 1732 and his men 376 came 935 to Ziklag 6860 on the third 7992 day 3117, that the Amalekites 6003 had made 6584 a raid 6584 on the Negev 5045 and on Ziklag 6860, and had overthrown 5221 Ziklag 6860 and burned 8313 it with fire 784;

 30:2 and they took 7617 captive 7628b the women 802 [and all] who 834 were in it, both 4480 small 6996b and great 1419, without 3808 killing 4191 anyone 376, and carried 5090a [them] off 5090a and went 1980 their way 1870.

 30:3 When David 1732 and his men 376 came 935 to the city 5892b, behold 2009, it was burned 8313 with fire 784, and their wives 802 and their sons 1121 and their daughters 1323 had been taken 7617 captive 7628b.

 30:4 Then David 1732 and the people 5971a who 834 were with him lifted 5375 their voices 6963 and wept 1058 until 5704 834 there 369 was no 369 strength 3581b in them to weep 1058.

 30:5 Now David’s 1732 two 8147 wives 802 had been taken 7617 captive 7628b, Ahinoam 293 the Jezreelitess 3159 and Abigail 26 the widow 802 of Nabal 5037 the Carmelite 3761.

 30:6 Moreover David 1732 was greatly 3966 distressed 6887a because 3588 the people 5971a spoke 559 of stoning 5619 him, for all 3605 the people 5971a were embittered 4843, each 376 one 376 because 5921 of his sons 1121 and his daughters 1323. But David 1732 strengthened 2388 himself in the LORD 3068 his God 430.

 30:7 ¶ Then David 1732 said 559 to Abiathar 54 the priest 3548, the son 1121 of Ahimelech 288, “Please 4994 bring 5066 me the ephod 646.” So Abiathar 54 brought 5066 the ephod 646 to David 1732.

 30:8 David 1732 inquired 7592 of the LORD 3068, saying 559, “Shall I pursue 7291 this 2088 band 1416? Shall I overtake 5381 them?” And He said 559 to him, “Pursue 7291, for you will surely 5381 overtake 5381 them, and you will surely 5337 rescue 5337 [all].”

 30:9 So David 1732 went 1980, he and the six 8337a hundred 3967 men 376 who 834 were with him, and came 935 to the brook 5158a Besor 1308, [where] those left 3498 behind 3498 remained 5975.

 30:10 But David 1732 pursued 7291, he and four 702 hundred 3967 men 376, for two hundred 3967 who 834 were too 4480 exhausted 6296 to cross 5674a the brook 5158a Besor 1308 remained 5975 [behind].

 30:11 ¶ Now they found 4672 an Egyptian 4713 in the field 7704 and brought 3947 him to David 1732, and gave 5414 him bread 3899 and he ate 398, and they provided 8248 him water 4325 to drink 8248.

 30:12 They gave 5414 him a piece 6400 of fig 1690 cake 1690 and two 8147 clusters 6778 of raisins 6778, and he ate 398; then his spirit 7307 revived 7725. For he had not eaten 398 bread 3899 or drunk 8354 water 4325 for three 7969 days 3117 and three 7969 nights 3915.

 30:13 David 1732 said 559 to him, “To whom 4310 do you belong? And where 335 are you from?” And he said 559, “I am a young 5288 man 5288 of Egypt 4713, a servant 5650 of an Amalekite 6003; and my master 113 left 5800a me behind 5800a when 3588 I fell 2470a sick 2470a three 7969 days 3117 ago.

 30:14 “We made 6584 a raid 6584 on the Negev 5045 of the Cherethites 3774, and on that which 834 belongs to Judah 3063, and on the Negev 5045 of Caleb 3612, and we burned 8313 Ziklag 6860 with fire 784.”

 30:15 Then David 1732 said 559 to him, “Will you bring 3381 me down 3381 to this 2088 band 1416?” And he said 559, “Swear 7650 to me by God 430 that you will not kill 4191 me or deliver 5462 me into the hands 3027 of my master 113, and I will bring 3381 you down 3381 to this 2088 band 1416.”

 30:16 ¶ When he had brought 3381 him down 3381, behold 2009, they were spread 5203 over 5921 all 3605 the land 776, eating 398 and drinking 8354 and dancing 2287 because of all 3605 the great 1419 spoil 7998 that they had taken 3947 from the land 776 of the Philistines 6430 and from the land 776 of Judah 3063.

 30:17 David 1732 slaughtered 5221 them from the twilight 5399 until 5704 the evening 6153 of the next 4283 day 4283; and not a man 376 of them escaped 4422, except 3588 518 four 702 hundred 3967 young 5288 men 5288 who 834 rode 7392 on camels 1581 and fled 1272.

 30:18 So David 1732 recovered 5337 all 3605 that the Amalekites 6002 had taken 3947, and rescued 5337 his two 8147 wives 802.

 30:19 But nothing 3808 of theirs 1992a was missing 5737c, whether 4480 small 6996b or 5704 great 1419, sons 1121 or daughters 1323, spoil 7998 or 5704 anything 3605 that they had taken 3947 for themselves 1992a; David 1732 brought 7725 [it] all 3605 back 7725.

 30:20 So David 1732 had captured 3947 all 3605 the sheep 6629 and the cattle 1241 [which the people] drove 5090a ahead 6440 of the [other] livestock 4735, and they said 559, “This 2088 is David’s 1732 spoil 7998.”

 30:21 ¶ When David 1732 came 935 to the two hundred 3967 men 376 who 834 were too 4480 exhausted 6296 to follow 1980 310 David 1732, who had also been left 3427 at the brook 5158a Besor 1308, and they went 3318 out to meet 7122 David 1732 and to meet 7122 the people 5971a who 834 were with him, then David 1732 approached 5066 the people 5971a and greeted 7592 7965 them.

 30:22 Then all 3605 the wicked 7451a and worthless 1100 men 376 among 4480 those who 834 went 1980 with David 1732 said 559, “Because 3282 834 they did not go 1980 with us, we will not give 5414 them any 4480 of the spoil 7998 that we have recovered 5337, except 3588 518 to every 376 man 376 his wife 802 and his children 1121, that they may lead 5090a [them] away 5090a and depart 1980.”

 30:23 Then David 1732 said 559, “You must not do 6213a so 3651, my brothers 251, with what 834 the LORD 3068 has given 5414 us, who has kept 8104 us and delivered 5414 into our hand 3027 the band 1416 that came 935 against 5921 us.

 30:24 “And who 4310 will listen 8085 to you in this 2088 matter 1697? For as his share 2506 is who goes 3381 down 3381 to the battle 4421, so shall his share 2506 be who stays 3427 by the baggage 3627; they shall share 2505a alike 3164a.”

 30:25 So it has been 1961 from that day 3117 forward 4605, that he made 7760 it a statute 2706 and an ordinance 4941 for Israel 3478 to this 2088 day 3117.

 30:26 ¶ Now when David 1732 came 935 to Ziklag 6860, he sent 7971 [some] of the spoil 7998 to the elders 2205 of Judah 3063, to his friends 7453, saying 559, “Behold 2009, a gift 1293 for you from the spoil 7998 of the enemies 340 of the LORD 3068:

 30:27 to those who 834 were in Bethel 1008, and to those who 834 were in Ramoth 7418 of the Negev 7418, and to those who 834 were in Jattir 3492,

 30:28 and to those who 834 were in Aroer 6177, and to those who 834 were in Siphmoth 8224, and to those who 834 were in Eshtemoa 851,

 30:29 and to those who 834 were in Racal 7403, and to those who 834 were in the cities 5892b of the Jerahmeelites 3397, and to those who 834 were in the cities 5892b of the Kenites 7017,

 30:30 and to those who 834 were in Hormah 2767, and to those who 834 were in Bor-ashan 953b, and to those who 834 were in Athach 6269,

 30:31 and to those who 834 were in Hebron 2275a, and to all 3605 the places 4725 where 834 8033 David 1732 himself 1931 and his men 376 were accustomed to go 1980.”
