1 Samuel 21

1 David at Nob obtaineth of Ahimelech hallowed bread. 7 Doeg was present. 8 David taketh Goliath's sword. 10 David at Gath feigneth himself mad.

 21:1 Then David 1732 came 935 to Nob 5011 to Ahimelech 288 the priest 3548; and Ahimelech 288 came 2729 trembling 2729 to meet 7122 David 1732 and said 559 to him, “Why 4069 are you alone 905 and no 369 one 376 with you?”

 21:2 David 1732 said 559 to Ahimelech 288 the priest 3548, “The king 4428 has commissioned 6680 me with a matter 1697 and has said 559 to me, ‘Let no 408 one 376 know 3045 anything 3972 about the matter 1697 on which 834 I am sending 7971 you and with which 834 I have commissioned 6680 you; and I have directed 3045 the young 5288 men 5288 to a certain 492 6423 place 4725.’

 21:3 “Now 6258 therefore, what 4100 do you have 3426 on hand 3027? Give 5414 me five 2568 loaves of bread 3899, or 176 whatever can be found 4672.”

 21:4 The priest 3548 answered 6030a David 1732 and said 559, “There 369 is no 369 ordinary 2455 bread 3899 on hand 3027, but there 3426 is consecrated 6944 bread 3899; if 518 only 389 the young 5288 men 5288 have kept 8104 themselves from women 802.”

 21:5 David 1732 answered 6030a the priest 3548 and said 559 to him, “Surely 3588 518 women 802 have been kept 6113 from us as previously 8543 8032a when I set 3318 out and the vessels 3627 of the young 5288 men 5288 were holy 6944, though it was an ordinary 2455 journey 1870; how 637 much 637 3588 more 637 3588 then today 3117 will their vessels 3627 [be holy]?”

 21:6 So the priest 3548 gave 5414 him consecrated 6944 [bread]; for there was no 3808 bread 3899 there 8033 but the bread 3899 of the Presence 6440 which was removed 5493 from before 6440 the LORD 3068, in order to put 7760 hot 2527 bread 3899 [in its place] when 3117 it was taken 3947 away.

 21:7 ¶ Now one 376 of the servants 5650 of Saul 7586 was there 8033 that day 3117, detained 6113 before 6440 the LORD 3068; and his name 8034 was Doeg 1673 the Edomite 130, the chief 47 of Saul’s 7586 shepherds 7462a.

 21:8 ¶ David 1732 said 559 to Ahimelech 288, “Now is there 3426 not a spear 2595 or 176 a sword 2719 on hand 3027? For I brought 3947 neither 1571 3808 my sword 2719 nor 1571 my weapons 3627 with me, because 3588 the king’s 4428 matter 1697 was urgent 5169.”

 21:9 Then the priest 3548 said 559, “The sword 2719 of Goliath 1555 the Philistine 6430, whom 834 you killed 5221 in the valley 6010 of Elah 424, behold 2009, it is wrapped 3874 in a cloth 8071 behind 310 the ephod 646; if 518 you would take 3947 it for yourself, take 3947 [it]. For there 369 is no 369 other 312 except 2108 it here 2088.” And David 1732 said 559, “There 369 is none 369 like 3644 it; give 5414 it to me.”

 21:10 ¶ Then David 1732 arose 6965 and fled 1272 that day 3117 from Saul 7586, and went 935 to Achish 397 king 4428 of Gath 1661.

 21:11 But the servants 5650 of Achish 397 said 559 to him, “Is this 2088 not David 1732 the king 4428 of the land 776? Did they not sing 6031b of this 2088 one 2088 as they danced 4246, saying 559, ‘Saul 7586 has slain 5221 his thousands 505, And David 1732 his ten 7233 thousands 7233’?”

 21:12 David 1732 took 7760 these 428 words 1697 to heart 3824 and greatly 3966 feared 3372a Achish 397 king 4428 of Gath 1661.

 21:13 So he disguised 8132 his sanity 2940 before 5869 them, and acted 1984b insanely 1984b in their hands 3027, and scribbled 8427 on the doors 1817 of the gate 8179, and let his saliva 7388b run 3381 down 3381 into his beard 2206.

 21:14 Then Achish 397 said 559 to his servants 5650, “Behold 2009, you see 7200 the man 376 behaving 7696 as a madman 7696. Why 4100 do you bring 935 him to me?

 21:15 “Do I lack 2638 madmen 7696, that you have brought 935 this 2088 one 2088 to act 7696 the madman 7696 in my presence 5921? Shall this 2088 one 2088 come 935 into my house 1004?”
