1 Samuel 31

1 Saul having lost his army, and his sons slain, he and his armourbearer kill themselves. 7 The Philistines possess the forsaken towns of the Israelites. 8 They triumph over the dead carcases. 11 They of Jabesh-gilead, recovering the bodies by night, burn them at Jabesh, and mournfully bury their bones.

 31:1 Now the Philistines 6430 were fighting 3898a against Israel 3478, and the men 376 of Israel 3478 fled 5127 from before 6440 the Philistines 6430 and fell 5307 slain 2491a on Mount 2022 Gilboa 1533.

 31:2 The Philistines 6430 overtook 1692 Saul 7586 and his sons 1121; and the Philistines 6430 killed 5221 Jonathan 3083 and Abinadab 41 and Malchi-shua 4444 the sons 1121 of Saul 7586.

 31:3 The battle 4421 went 3513 heavily 3513 against 413 Saul 7586, and the archers 3384 376 7198 hit 4672 him; and he was badly 3966 wounded 2342a by the archers 3384.

 31:4 Then Saul 7586 said 559 to his armor 3627 bearer 5375, “Draw 8025 your sword 2719 and pierce 1856 me through 1856 with it, otherwise 6435 these 428 uncircumcised 6189 will come 935 and pierce 1856 me through 1856 and make 5953a sport 5953a of me.” But his armor 3627 bearer 5375 would 14 not, for he was greatly 3966 afraid 3372a.  31:5 When his armor 3627 bearer 5375 saw 7200 that Saul 7586 was dead 4191, he also 1571 fell 5307 on his sword 2719 and died 4191 with him.

 31:6 Thus Saul 7586 died 4191 with his three 7969 sons 1121, his armor 3627 bearer 5375, and all 3605 his men 376 on that day 3117 together 3164a.

 31:7 ¶ When the men 376 of Israel 3478 who 834 were on the other 5676 side 5676 of the valley 6010, with those who 834 were beyond 5676 the Jordan 3383, saw 7200 that the men 376 of Israel 3478 had fled 5127 and that Saul 7586 and his sons 1121 were dead 4191, they abandoned 5800a the cities 5892b and fled 5127; then the Philistines 6430 came 935 and lived 3427 in them.

 31:8 ¶ It came 1961 about on the next 4283 day 4283 when the Philistines 6430 came 935 to strip 6584 the slain 2491a, that they found 4672 Saul 7586 and his three 7969 sons 1121 fallen 5307 on Mount 2022 Gilboa 1533.

 31:11 Now when the inhabitants 3427 of Jabesh-gilead 3003 1568 heard 8085 what 834 the Philistines 6430 had done 6213a to Saul 7586,

 31:12 all 3605 the valiant 2428 men 376 rose 6965 and walked 1980 all 3605 night 3915, and took 3947 the body 1472a of Saul 7586 and the bodies 1472a of his sons 1121 from the wall 2346 of Beth-shan 1052, and they came 935 to Jabesh 3003 and burned 8313 them there 8033.

 31:13 They took 3947 their bones 6106 and buried 6912 them under 8478 the tamarisk 815 tree 815 at Jabesh 3003, and fasted 6684 seven 7651 days 3117.
