1 Samuel 10

1 Samuel anointeth Saul. 2 He confirmeth him by prediction of three signs. 9 Saul's heart is changed, and he prophesieth. 14 He concealeth the matter of the kingdom from his uncle. 17 Saul is chosen at Mizpeh by lot. 26 The different affections of his subjects.

 10:1 Then Samuel 8050 took 3947 the flask 6378 of oil 8081, poured 3332 it on his head 7218, kissed 5401a him and said 559, “Has not the LORD 3068 anointed 4886 you a ruler 5057 over 5921 His inheritance 5159?

 10:2 “When you go 1980 from me today 3117, then you will find 4672 two 8147 men 376 close 5973 to Rachel’s 7354 tomb 6900 in the territory 1366 of Benjamin 1144 at Zelzah 6766; and they will say 559 to you, ‘The donkeys 860 which 834 you went 1980 to look 1245 for have been found 4672. Now behold 2009, your father 1 has ceased 5203 to be concerned 1697 about the donkeys 860 and is anxious 1672 for you, saying 559, “What 4100 shall I do 6213a about my son 1121?”’

 10:3 “Then you will go 2498 on further 1973 from there 8033, and you will come 935 as far 5704 as the oak 436 of Tabor 8396, and there 8033 three 7969 men 376 going 5927 up to God 430 at Bethel 1008 will meet 4672 you, one 259 carrying 5375 three 7969 young 1423 goats 1423, another 259 carrying 5375 three 7969 loaves 3603 of bread 3899, and another 259 carrying 5375 a jug 5035a of wine 3196;

 10:4 and they will greet 7592 7965 you and give 5414 you two 8147 [loaves] of bread 3899, which you will accept 3947 from their hand 3027.

 10:5 “Afterward 310 3651 you will come 935 to the hill 1389 of God 430 where 834 8033 the Philistine 6430 garrison 5333 is; and it shall be as soon as you have come 935 there 8033 to the city 5892b, that you will meet 6293 a group 2256a of prophets 5030 coming 3381 down 3381 from the high 1116 place 1116 with harp 5035b, tambourine 8596, flute 2485, and a lyre 3658 before 6440 them, and they will be prophesying 5012.

 10:6 “Then the Spirit 7307 of the LORD 3068 will come 6743a upon you mightily 6743a, and you shall prophesy 5012 with them and be changed 2015 into another 312 man 376.

 10:7 “It shall be when 3588 these 428 signs 226 come 935 to you, do 6213a for yourself what 834 the occasion 3027 requires 4672, for God 430 is with you.

 10:8 “And you shall go 3381 down 3381 before 6440 me to Gilgal 1537; and behold 2009, I will come 3381 down 3381 to you to offer 5927 burnt 5930a offerings 5930a and sacrifice 2076 peace 8002 offerings 8002. You shall wait 3176 seven 7651 days 3117 until 5704 I come 935 to you and show 3045 you what 834 you should do 6213a.”

 10:9 ¶ Then it happened 1961 when he turned 6437 his back 7926 to leave 1980 4480 5973 Samuel 8050, God 430 changed 2015 his heart 3820; and all 3605 those 428 signs 226 came 935 about on that day 3117.

 10:10 When they came 935 to the hill 1389 there 8033, behold 2009, a group 2256a of prophets 5030 met 7122 him; and the Spirit 7307 of God 430 came 6743a upon him mightily 6743a, so that he prophesied 5012 among 8432 them.

 10:11 It came 1961 about, when all 3605 who knew 3045 him previously 4480 8032a 865a saw 7200 that he prophesied 5012 now 2009 with the prophets 5030, that the people 5971a said 559 to one 376 another 7453, “What 4100 has happened 1961 to the son 1121 of Kish 7027? Is Saul 7586 also 1571 among the prophets 5030?”

 10:12 A man 376 there 4480 8033 said 559, “Now, who 4310 is their father 1?” Therefore 5921 3651 it became 1961 a proverb 4912: “Is Saul 7586 also 1571 among the prophets 5030?”

 10:13 When he had finished 3615 prophesying 5012, he came 935 to the high 1116 place 1116.

 10:14 ¶ Now Saul’s 7586 uncle 1730 said 559 to him and his servant 5288, “Where 575 did you go 1980?” And he said 559, “To look 1245 for the donkeys 860. When we saw 7200 that they could not be found 369, we went 935 to Samuel 8050.”

 10:15 Saul’s 7586 uncle 1730 said 559, “Please 4994 tell 5046 me what 4100 Samuel 8050 said 559 to you.”

 10:16 So Saul 7586 said 559 to his uncle 1730, “He told 5046 us plainly 5046 that the donkeys 860 had been found 4672.” But he did not tell 5046 him about the matter 1697 of the kingdom 4410 which 834 Samuel 8050 had mentioned 559.

 10:17 ¶ Thereafter Samuel 8050 called 6817 the people 5971a together 6817 to the LORD 3068 at Mizpah 4709;

 10:18 and he said 559 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘I brought 5927 Israel 3478 up from Egypt 4714, and I delivered 5337 you from the hand 3027 of the Egyptians 4714 and from the power 3027 of all 3605 the kingdoms 4467 that were oppressing 3905 you.’

 10:19 “But you have today 3117 rejected 3988a your God 430, who 834 delivers 3467 you from all 3605 your calamities 7463a and your distresses 6869a; yet you have said 559, ‘No 3808, but set 7760 a king 4428 over 5921 us!’ Now 6258 therefore, present 3320 yourselves before 6440 the LORD 3068 by your tribes 7626 and by your clans 505.”

 10:20 ¶ Thus Samuel 8050 brought 7126 all 3605 the tribes 7626 of Israel 3478 near 7126, and the tribe 7626 of Benjamin 1144 was taken 3920 by lot.

 10:21 Then he brought 7126 the tribe 7626 of Benjamin 1144 near 7126 by its families 4940, and the Matrite 4309 family 4940 was taken 3920. And Saul 7586 the son 1121 of Kish 7027 was taken 3920; but when they looked 1245 for him, he could not be found 4672.

 10:22 Therefore they inquired 7592 further 5750 of the LORD 3068, “Has the man 376 come 935 here 1988 yet 5750?” So the LORD 3068 said 559, “Behold 2009, he is hiding 2244 himself 1931 by the baggage 3627.”

 10:23 So they ran 7323 and took 3947 him from there 8033, and when he stood 3320 among 8432 the people 5971a, he was taller 1361b than 4480 any 3605 of the people 5971a from his shoulders 7926 upward 4605.

 10:24 Samuel 8050 said 559 to all 3605 the people 5971a, “Do you see 7200 him whom 834 the LORD 3068 has chosen 977? Surely 3588 there 369 is no 369 one 369 like 3644 him among all 3605 the people 5971a.” So all 3605 the people 5971a shouted 7321 and said 559, “[Long] live 2421a the king 4428!”

 10:25 ¶ Then Samuel 8050 told 1696 the people 5971a the ordinances 4941 of the kingdom 4410, and wrote 3789 [them] in the book 5612 and placed 5117 [it] before 6440 the LORD 3068. And Samuel 8050 sent 7971 all 3605 the people 5971a away 7971, each 376 one 376 to his house 1004.

 10:26 Saul 7586 also 1571 went 1980 to his house 1004 at Gibeah 1390; and the valiant 2428 [men] whose 834 hearts 3820 God 430 had touched 5060 went 1980 with him.

 10:27 But certain worthless 1100 men 1121 said 559, “How 4100 can this 2088 one 2088 deliver 3467 us?” And they despised 959 him and did not bring 935 him any present 4503. But he kept 2790b silent 2790b.
