1 Samuel 12

1 Samuel testifieth his integrity. 6 He reproveth the people of ingratitude. 16 He terrifieth them with thunder in harvest time. 20 He comforteth them in God's mercy.

 12:1 Then Samuel 8050 said 559 to all 3605 Israel 3478, “Behold 2009, I have listened 8085 to your voice 6963 in all 3605 that you said 559 to me and I have appointed 4427a a king 4428 over 5921 you.

 12:2 “Now 6258, here 2009 is the king 4428 walking 1980 before 6440 you, but I am 2204 old 2204 and gray 7867, and behold 2009 my sons 1121 are with you. And I have walked 1980 before 6440 you from my youth 5271 even 5704 to this 2088 day 3117.

 12:3 “Here 2009 I am; bear 6030a witness 6030a against me before 5048 the LORD 3068 and His anointed 4899. Whose 4310 ox 7794 have I taken 3947, or whose 4310 donkey 2543 have I taken 3947, or whom 4310 have I defrauded 6231? Whom 4310 have I oppressed 7533, or from whose 4310 hand 3027 have I taken 3947 a bribe 3724a to blind 5956 my eyes 5869 with it? I will restore 7725 [it] to you.”

 12:4 They said 559, “You have not defrauded 6231 us or oppressed 7533 us or taken 3947 anything 3972 from any 376 man’s 376 hand 3027.”

 12:5 He said 559 to them, “The LORD 3068 is witness 5707 against you, and His anointed 4899 is witness 5707 this 2088 day 3117 that you have found 4672 nothing 3808 3972 in my hand 3027.” And they said 559, “[He is] witness 5707.”

 12:6 ¶ Then Samuel 8050 said 559 to the people 5971a, “It is the LORD 3068 who 834 appointed 6213a Moses 4872 and Aaron 175 and who 834 brought 5927 your fathers 1 up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714.

 12:7 “So now 6258, take 3320 your stand 3320, that I may plead 8199 with you before 6440 the LORD 3068 concerning 854 all 3605 the righteous 6666 acts 6666 of the LORD 3068 which 834 He did 6213a for you and your fathers 1.

 12:8 “When 3512c Jacob 3290 went 935 into Egypt 4714 and your fathers 1 cried 2199 out to the LORD 3068, then the LORD 3068 sent 7971 Moses 4872 and Aaron 175 who brought 3318 your fathers 1 out of Egypt 4714 and settled 3427 them in this 2088 place 4725.

 12:9 “But they forgot 7911 the LORD 3068 their God 430, so He sold 4376 them into the hand 3027 of Sisera 5516, captain 8269 of the army 6635 of Hazor 2674, and into the hand 3027 of the Philistines 6430 and into the hand 3027 of the king 4428 of Moab 4124, and they fought 3898a against them.

 12:10 “They cried 2199 out to the LORD 3068 and said 559, ‘We have sinned 2398 because 3588 we have forsaken 5800a the LORD 3068 and have served 5647 the Baals 1168a and the Ashtaroth 6252b; but now 6258 deliver 5337 us from the hands 3027 of our enemies 340, and we will serve 5647 You.’

 12:11 “Then the LORD 3068 sent 7971 Jerubbaal 3378 and Bedan 917 and Jephthah 3316 and Samuel 8050, and delivered 5337 you from the hands 3027 of your enemies 340 all 4480 5439 around 5439, so that you lived 3427 in security 983.

 12:12 “When you saw 7200 that Nahash 5176 the king 4428 of the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983 came 935 against 5921 you, you said 559 to me, ‘No 3808, but a king 4428 shall reign 4427a over 5921 us,’ although the LORD 3068 your God 430 [was] your king 4428.

 12:13 “Now 6258 therefore, here 2009 is the king 4428 whom 4310 you have chosen 977, whom 4310 you have asked 7592 for, and behold 2009, the LORD 3068 has set 5414 a king 4428 over 5921 you.

 12:14 “If 518 you will fear 3372a the LORD 3068 and serve 5647 Him, and listen 8085 to His voice 6963 and not rebel 4784 against 854 the command 6310 of the LORD 3068, then both 1571 you and also 1571 the king 4428 who 834 reigns 4427a over 5921 you will follow 310 the LORD 3068 your God 430.

 12:15 “If 518 you will not listen 8085 to the voice 6963 of the LORD 3068, but rebel 4784 against 854 the command 6310 of the LORD 3068, then the hand 3027 of the LORD 3068 will be against you, [as it was] against your fathers 1.

 12:16 “Even 1571 now 6258, take 3320 your stand 3320 and see 7200 this 2088 great 1419 thing 1697 which 834 the LORD 3068 will do 6213a before your eyes 5869.

 12:17 “Is it not the wheat 2406 harvest 7105a today 3117? I will call 7121 to the LORD 3068, that He may send 5414 thunder 6963 and rain 4306. Then you will know 3045 and see 7200 that your wickedness 7463a is great 7227a which 834 you have done 6213a in the sight 5869 of the LORD 3068 by asking 7592 for yourselves a king 4428.”

 12:18 So Samuel 8050 called 7121 to the LORD 3068, and the LORD 3068 sent 5414 thunder 6963 and rain 4306 that day 3117; and all 3605 the people 5971a greatly 3966 feared 3372a the LORD 3068 and Samuel 8050.

 12:19 ¶ Then all 3605 the people 5971a said 559 to Samuel 8050, “Pray 6419 for your servants 5650 to the LORD 3068 your God 430, so that we may not die 4191, for we have added 3254 to all 3605 our sins 2403b [this] evil 7463a by asking 7592 for ourselves a king 4428.”

 12:20 Samuel 8050 said 559 to the people 5971a, “Do not fear 3372a. You have committed 6213a all 3605 this 2088 evil 7463a, yet 389 do not turn 5493 aside 5493 from following 310 the LORD 3068, but serve 5647 the LORD 3068 with all 3605 your heart 3824.

 12:21 “You must not turn 5493 aside 5493, for [then you would go] after 310 futile 8414 things 8414 which 834 can not profit 3276 or deliver 5337, because 3588 they are futile 8414.

 12:22 “For the LORD 3068 will not abandon 5203 His people 5971a on account 5668 of His great 1419 name 8034, because 3588 the LORD 3068 has been pleased 3190 2974 to make 6213a you a people 5971a for Himself.

 12:23 “Moreover 1571, as for me, far 2486 be it from me that I should sin 2398 against the LORD 3068 by ceasing 2308 to pray 6419 for you; but I will instruct 3384 you in the good 2896a and right 3477 way 1870.

 12:24 “Only 389 fear 3372a the LORD 3068 and serve 5647 Him in truth 571 with all 3605 your heart 3824; for consider 7200 what 834 great 1431 things 1431 He has done 1431 for you.

 12:25 “But if 518 you still 7489a do 7489a wickedly 7489a, both 1571 you and your king 4428 will be swept 5595 away 5595.”
