to battle.° |

20:1 ¶
It came to pass after this also, [that] the children of Moav, and the children of Ammon, and with them [other] beside the Ammonim, came against Yehoshafat to battle. |
|
20:2
Then there came°°
some that told°°
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט,°
saying,°°
There cometh°°
a great°
multitude°
against°
thee from beyond°°
the sea°
on this side
´Áräm
אֲרָם;°°
and, behold,°
they [be] in
Çaxæxôn Tämär
חַצְצוֹן־תָּמָר,°
which°
[is]
`Ên Geđî
עֵין־גֶּדִי.° |

Then there came some that told Yehoshafat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Aram; and, behold, they [be] in Chatzetzon-Tamar, which [is] En-Gedi. |

And

and proclaimed°°
a fast°
throughout°

And Yehoshafat feared, and set himself to seek Yahweh, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Yehudah. |

gathered themselves together,°°
to ask°°
[help] of°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:°
even°
out of all°°
the cities°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה°
they came°°
to seek°°°
Yähwè

And Yehudah gathered themselves together, to ask [help] of Yahweh: even out of all the cities of Yehudah they came to seek Yahweh. |

20:5 ¶
And

stood°°
in the congregation°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה°
and
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם,°
in the house°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
before°
the new°
court,° |

20:5 ¶
And Yehoshafat stood in the congregation of Yehudah and Yerushalaim, in the house of Yahweh, before the new court, |

And said,°°
O
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of our fathers,°
[art] not°
thou°
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
in heaven?°
and rulest°°
[not] thou°
over all°
the kingdoms°
of the heathen?°
and in thine hand°
[is there not] power°
and might,°
so that none°
is able to withstand°°°
thee? |

And said, O Yahweh Elohim of our fathers, [art] not thou Elohim in heaven? and rulest [not] thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand [is there not] power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee? |

[who] didst drive out°°°
the inhabitants°°
of this°
land°
before°°
thy people°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
and gavest°°
it to the seed°

´Avrähäm
אַברָהָם°
thy friend°°
for ever?° |

20:7
[Art] not thou our Elohim, [who] didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Yisrael, and gavest it to the seed of Avraham thy friend for ever? |

20:8
And they dwelt°°
therein, and have built°°
thee a sanctuary°
therein for thy name,°
saying,°° |

[when] evil°

thee in our affliction,°°

If, [when] evil cometh upon us, [as] the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name [is] in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help. |

שֵׂעִיר,°
whom°
thou wouldest not°
let°°

יִשׂרָאֵל°
invade,°°
when they came°
out°°
of the land°°
of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם,°
but°
they turned°°
from°°
them, and destroyed°°
them not;° |

And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moav and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Yisrael invade, when they came out of the land of Mitzrayim, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not; |

Behold,°
[I say, how] they°
reward°°°
us, to come°°
to cast us out°°
of thy possession,°°
which°
thou hast given us to inherit.°° |

O our Elohim, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes [are] upon thee. |

their little ones,°
their wives,°
and their children.° |

And all Yehudah stood before Yahweh, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. |

20:14 ¶

came°
the Spirit°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
in the midst°
of the congregation;° |

20:14 ¶
Then upon Yachaziel the son of Zekharyah, the son of Benayah, the son of Yeiel, the son of Mattanyah, a Lewi of the sons of Asaf, came the Spirit of Yahweh in the midst of the congregation; |
|
20:15
And he said,°°
Hearken°°
ye, all°
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
and ye inhabitants°°
of
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם,°
and thou king°
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט,°
Thus°
saith°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
unto you, Be not afraid°°°°
nor°
dismayed°°
by reason°
of°°
this°
great°
multitude;°
for°
the battle°
[is] not°
yours, but°
´Élöhîm's
אֱלֹהִים.° |

20:15
And he said, Hearken ye, all Yehudah, and ye inhabitants of Yerushalaim, and thou king Yehoshafat, Thus saith Yahweh unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle [is] not yours, but Elohim's. |
|
20:16
To morrow°
go ye down°°
against°
them: behold,°
they come up°°
by the cliff°
of
Xîx
צִיץ;°
and ye shall find°°
them at the end°
of the brook,°
before°
the wilderness°
of
Yærû´ël
יְרוּאֵל.° |

To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Tzitz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Yeruel. |

Ye shall not°
[need] to fight°°
in this°
[battle]: set°°
yourselves,°
stand°°
ye [still], and see°°°
the salvation°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
with°
you, O
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה°
and
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם:°
fear°°
not,°
nor°
be dismayed;°°
to morrow°
go out°°
against°
them: for
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
[will be] with°
you. |

20:17
Ye shall not [need] to fight in this [battle]: set yourselves, stand ye [still], and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Yehudah and Yerushalaim: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for Yahweh [will be] with you. |
|
20:18
And

with [his] face°
to the ground:°
and all°

יְהוּדָה°
and the inhabitants°°

Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם°

יָהוֶה,°
worshipping°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.° |

20:18
And Yehoshafat bowed his head with [his] face to the ground: and all Yehudah and the inhabitants of Yerushalaim fell before Yahweh, worshipping Yahweh. |
|
20:19
And the
Læwiyyim
לְוִיִּם,°
of the children°
of°
the
Kæhäŧîm
קְהָתִים,°
and of°
the children°
of the
Korçîm
קָרחִים,°
stood up°°
to praise°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
with a loud°
voice°
on high.° |

20:19
And the Lewiyyim, of the children of the Qehathim, and of the children of the Qorchim, stood up to praise Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael with a loud voice on high. |
|
20:20 ¶
And they rose early°°
in the morning,°
and went forth°°
into the wilderness°
of
Tækôå`
תְּקוֹעַ:°
and as they went forth,°°
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט°
stood°°
and said,°°
Hear°°
me, O
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
and ye inhabitants°°
of
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם;°
Believe°°
in
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
your
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,°
so shall ye be established;°°
believe°°
his prophets,°
so shall ye prosper.°° |

20:20 ¶
And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Teqoa: and as they went forth, Yehoshafat stood and said, Hear me, O Yehudah, and ye inhabitants of Yerushalaim; Believe in Yahweh your Elohim, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. |

20:21
And when he had consulted°°
with°
the people,°
he appointed°°
singers°°
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
and that should praise°°
the beauty°
of holiness,°
as they went out°°
before°
the army,°°
and to say,°°
Praise°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה;°
for°
his mercy°
[endureth] for ever.° |

20:21
And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto Yahweh, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise Yahweh; for his mercy [endureth] for ever. |
|
20:22 ¶
And when°
they began°°
to sing°
and to praise,°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
set°°
ambushments°°
against°
the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן,°
Mô´äv
מוֹאָב,°
and mount°
Ŝë`îr
שֵׂעִיר,°
which were come°°
against
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה;°
and they were smitten.°° |

20:22 ¶
And when they began to sing and to praise, Yahweh set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moav, and mount Seir, which were come against Yehudah; and they were smitten. |
|
20:23
For the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן°
and
Mô´äv
מוֹאָב°
stood up°°
against°
the inhabitants°°
of mount°
Ŝë`îr
שֵׂעִיר,°
utterly to slay°°
and destroy°°
[them]: and when they had made an end°°
of the inhabitants°°
of
Ŝë`îr
שֵׂעִיר,°
every one°
helped°°
to destroy°
another.° |

For the children of Ammon and Moav stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy [them]: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. |
|
20:24
And when

came°°
toward°
the watch tower°°°
in the wilderness,°
they looked°°
unto°
the multitude,°
and, behold,°
they [were] dead bodies°
fallen°°
to the earth,°
and none°
escaped.° |

And when Yehudah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they [were] dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. |
|
20:25
And when
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט°
and his people°
came°°
to take away°°°
the spoil°
of them, they found°°
among them in abundance°
both riches°
with the dead bodies,°
and precious°°
jewels,°
which they stripped off°°
for themselves, more than°
they could carry away:°
and they were°
three°
days°
in gathering°°°
of the spoil,°
it°
was so much.° |

And when Yehoshafat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much. |

20:26 ¶
And on the fourth°
day°
they assembled°°
themselves°
in the valley°
of
Bæräȼà
בְּרָכָה;°
for°
there°
they blessed°°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:°
therefore°°°
the name°
of the same°
place°
was called,°°
The valley°
of
Bæräȼà
בְּרָכָה,°
unto°
this day.° |

20:26 ¶
And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berakhah; for there they blessed Yahweh: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berakhah, unto this day. |
|
20:27
Then they returned,°°
every°
man°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה°
and
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם,°
and
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט°
in the forefront°
of them, to go again°°
to°
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם°
with joy;°
for°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
had made them to rejoice°°
over their enemies.°°° |

Then they returned, every man of Yehudah and Yerushalaim, and Yehoshafat in the forefront of them, to go again to Yerushalaim with joy; for Yahweh had made them to rejoice over their enemies. |

20:28
And they came°°
to
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם°
with psalteries°
and harps°
and trumpets°
unto°
the house°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.° |

20:28
And they came to Yerushalaim with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of Yahweh. |

20:29
And the fear°
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
was°
on°
all°
the kingdoms°
of [those] countries,°
when they had heard°°
that°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
fought°°
against°
the enemies°°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.° |

20:29
And the fear of Elohim was on all the kingdoms of [those] countries, when they had heard that Yahweh fought against the enemies of Yisrael. |
|
20:30
So the realm°
of
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט°
was quiet:°°
for his
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
gave him rest°°
round about.°° |

20:30
So the realm of Yehoshafat was quiet: for his Elohim gave him rest round about. |
|
20:31 ¶
And

יְהוֹשָׁפָט°
reigned°°
over°
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה:°
[he was] thirty°
and five°
years°
old°
when he began to reign,°°
and he reigned°°
twenty°
and five°
years°
in
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם.°
And his mother's°
name°
[was]
`Ázûvà
עֲזוּבָה°
the daughter°
of
Šilçî
שִׁלחִי.° |

20:31 ¶
And Yehoshafat reigned over Yehudah: [he was] thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Yerushalaim. And his mother's name [was] Azuvah the daughter of Shilchi. |

his father,°
and departed°°

from°
it, doing°°
[that which was] right°
in the sight°

Yähwè

of their fathers.° |

And after this did Yehoshafat king of Yehudah join himself with Achazyah king of Yisrael, who did very wickedly: |

and they made°°
the ships°
in
`Exyôn Gever
עֶציוֹן־גֶּבֶר.° |

And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Etzyon-Gever. |

Then

אֱלִיעֶזֶר°

מָרֵאשָׁה°°
prophesied°°
against°
Yæhôšäfäţ

Because thou hast joined°°
thyself°

Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
hath broken°°°
thy works.°
And the ships°
were broken,°°
that they were not able°°°
to go°°°

Taršîš
תַּרשִׁישׁ.° |

Then Eliezer the son of Dodawah of Mareshah prophesied against Yehoshafat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Achazyah, Yahweh hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish. |
