17:1 ¶
And Yehoshafat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Yisrael. |
|
17:2
And he placed°°
forces°
in all°
the fenced°°
cities°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
and set°°
garrisons°
in the land°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
and in the cities°
of
´Efrayim
אֶפרַיִם,°
which°
´Äsä´
אָסָא°
his father°
had taken.°° |

17:2
And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Yehudah, and set garrisons in the land of Yehudah, and in the cities of Efrayim, which Asa his father had taken. |

17:3
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
was°
with°
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט,°
because°
he walked°°
in the first°
ways°
of his father°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
and sought°°
not°
unto
Bæ`älîm
בְּעָלִים;° |

17:3
And Yahweh was with Yehoshafat, because he walked in the first ways of his father Dawid, and sought not unto Bealim; |

17:4
But°
sought°°
to the
[Yähwè
יָהוֶה]
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of his father,°
and walked°°
in his commandments,°
and not°
after the doings°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.° |
|
17:4
But sought to the [Yahweh] Elohim of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Yisrael. |
|
17:5
Therefore
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
stablished°°°
the kingdom°
in his hand;°
and all°
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה°
brought°°
to
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט°
presents;°
and he had°
riches°
and honour°
in abundance.° |

17:5
Therefore Yahweh stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Yehudah brought to Yehoshafat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance. |
|
17:6
And his heart°
was lifted up°°
in the ways°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:°
moreover°
he took away°°°
the high places°
and groves°
out of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה.°° |
|
17:6
And his heart was lifted up in the ways of Yahweh: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Yehudah. |

17:7 ¶
Also in the third°
year°
of his reign°°
he sent°°
to his princes,°
[even] to
Ben Çayil
בֶּן־חַיִל,°
and to
`Övađyà
עֹבַדיָה,°
and to
Zæȼaryà
זְכַריָה,°
and to
Næŧan´ël
נְתַנאֵל,°
and to
Mîȼäyà
מִיכָיָה,°
to teach°°
in the cities°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה.° |

17:7 ¶
Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, [even] to Ben-Chayil, and to Ovadyah, and to Zekharyah, and to Nethanel, and to Mikhayah, to teach in the cities of Yehudah. |

נְתַניָה,°

זְבַדיָה,°

יְהוֹנָתָן,°

טוֹבִיָּה,°

טוֹב־אֲדוֹנִיָּה,°
Læwiyyim
לְוִיִּם;°
and with°
them
´Élîšämä`
אֱלִישָׁמָע°
and
Yæhôräm
יְהוֹרָם,°
priests.° |

And with them [he sent] Lewiyyim, [even] Shemayah, and Nethanyah, and Zevadyah, and Asah-El, and Shemiramoth, and Yehonathan, and Adoniyyah, and Toviyyah, and Tov-Adoniyyah, Lewiyyim; and with them Elishama and Yehoram, priests. |

and [had] the book°
of the law°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
with°
them, and went about°°
throughout all°
the cities°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
and taught°°
the people.° |

And they taught in Yehudah, and [had] the book of the law of Yahweh with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Yehudah, and taught the people. |

17:10 ¶
And the fear°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
fell°
upon°
all°
the kingdoms°
of the lands°
that°
[were] round about°
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה,°
so that they made no war°°°
against°
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט.° |

17:10 ¶
And the fear of Yahweh fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that [were] round about Yehudah, so that they made no war against Yehoshafat. |
|
17:11
Also [some] of°
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים°
brought°°
Yæhôšäfäţ
יְהוֹשָׁפָט°
presents,°
and tribute°
silver;°
and°
the
`Árävîm
עֲרָבִים°
brought°°
him flocks,°
seven°
thousand°
and seven°
hundred°
rams,°
and seven°
thousand°
and seven°
hundred°
he goats.° |

17:11
Also [some] of the Pelishtim brought Yehoshafat presents, and tribute silver; and the Aravim brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats. |

17:12 ¶
And

waxed°°°
great°
exceedingly;°°
and he built°°
in
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה°
castles,°
and cities°
of store.° |

17:12 ¶
And Yehoshafat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Yehudah castles, and cities of store. |

17:13
And he had°
much°
business°
in the cities°
of
Yæhûđà
יְהוּדָה:°
and the men°°
of war,°
mighty men°
of valour,°
[were] in
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם.° |

And he had much business in the cities of Yehudah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, [were] in Yerushalaim. |
|
17:14
And these°
[are] the numbers°
of them according to the house°
of their fathers:°

the captains°
of thousands;°

עַדנַח°
the chief,°
and with°
him mighty men°
of valour°

hundred°

And next him [was] Amasyah the son of Zikhri, who willingly offered himself unto Yahweh; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour. |

a mighty man°
of valour,°
and with°
him armed men°°
with bow°
and shield°
two hundred°
thousand.° |

And of Binyamin; Elyada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand. |

And next him [was] Yehozavad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war. |

the king,°

These waited on the king, beside [those] whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Yehudah. |
