21:1 ¶
And Satan stood up against Yisrael, and provoked Dawid to number Yisrael. |

21:2
And

and to°
the rulers°
of the people,°
Go,°°°
number°°°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
from
Bæ´ër Ševa`
בְּאֵר־שֶׁבַע°°
even to°
Dän
דָּן;°
and bring°°°
the number°
of them to°
me, that I may know°°
[it]. |

And Dawid said to Yoav and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Yisrael from Beer-Sheva even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know [it]. |

[be]: but, my

אֲדוֹן°
require°°
this thing?°
why°
will he be°
a cause of trespass°
to
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל?° |

21:3
And Yoav answered, Yahweh make his people an hundred times so many more as they [be]: but, my adon the king, [are] they not all my adon's servants? why then doth my adon require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Yisrael? |

21:4
Nevertheless the king's°
word°
prevailed°°
against°

Wherefore
Yô´äv
יוֹאָב°
departed,°°
and went°°
throughout all°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
and came°°
to
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם.° |

Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Yoav. Wherefore Yoav departed, and went throughout all Yisrael, and came to Yerushalaim. |
|
21:5 ¶
And

threescore and ten°
thousand°

that drew°°

21:5 ¶
And Yoav gave the sum of the number of the people unto Dawid. And all [they of] Yisrael were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Yehudah [was] four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword. |

21:6

But Lewi and Binyamin counted he not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Yoav. |

was displeased°°°

this°
thing;°
therefore he smote°°°

יִשׂרָאֵל.° |

21:7
And Elohim was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Yisrael. |
|
21:8
And

unto°
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,°
I have sinned°°
greatly,°
because°
I have done°°°
this°
thing:°
but now,°
I beseech thee,°
do away°°°
the iniquity°
of thy servant;°
for°
I have done very°
foolishly.°°° |

And Dawid said unto Elohim, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. |
|
21:9 ¶
And

And Yahweh spake unto Gad, Dawid's seer, saying, |

saying,°°
Thus°
saith°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
I°
offer°°°
thee three°
[things]: choose°°
thee one°
of them,°°°
that I may do°°
[it] unto thee. |

Go and tell Dawid, saying, Thus saith Yahweh, I offer thee three [things]: choose thee one of them, that I may do [it] unto thee. |

21:11

So Gad came to Dawid, and said unto him, Thus saith Yahweh, Choose thee |

21:12
Either°
three°
years'°
famine;°
or°
three°
months°
to be destroyed°°
before°°
thy foes,°
while that the sword°
of thine enemies°°
overtaketh°°
[thee]; or°
else°
three°
days°
the sword°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
even the pestilence,°
in the land,°
and the angel°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
destroying°°
throughout all°
the coasts°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.°
Now°
therefore advise°°
thyself what°
word°
I shall bring again°°°
to him that sent°°
me. |

21:12
Either three years' famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh [thee]; or else three days the sword of Yahweh, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of Yahweh destroying throughout all the coasts of Yisrael. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me. |

[are] his mercies:°

And Dawid said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of Yahweh; for very great [are] his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man. |
|
21:14 ¶
So

pestilence°
upon
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל:°
and there fell°°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°°
seventy°
thousand°
men.° |

21:14 ¶
So Yahweh sent pestilence upon Yisrael: and there fell of Yisrael seventy thousand men. |
|
21:15
And

אֱלֹהִים°
sent°°
an angel°
unto
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם°
to destroy°°
it: and as he was destroying,°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
beheld,°°
and he repented°°
him°
of°
the evil,°
and said°°
to the angel°
that destroyed,°°
It is enough,°
stay°°
now°
thine hand.°
And the angel°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
stood°°
by°
the threshingfloor°
of
´Ornän
אָרנָן°
the
Yævûsî
יְבוּסִי.° |

21:15
And Elohim sent an angel unto Yerushalaim to destroy it: and as he was destroying, Yahweh beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of Yahweh stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Yevusi. |
|
21:16
And

his eyes,°
and saw°°°
the angel°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
stand°°
between°
the earth°
and the heaven,°
having a drawn°°
sword°
in his hand°
stretched out°°
over°

יְרוּשָׁלִַם.°
Then
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
and the elders°
[of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל, who were] clothed°°
in sackcloth,°
fell°°
upon°
their faces.° |

21:16
And Dawid lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Yahweh stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Yerushalaim. Then Dawid and the elders [of Yisrael, who were] clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. |
|
21:17
And

[Is it] not°
I°
[that] commanded°°
the people°
to be numbered?°°

it°

I pray thee,°

יָהוֶה°

´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,°

on me, and on my father's°
house;°

on thy people,°
that they should be plagued.° |

21:17
And Dawid said unto Elohim, [Is it] not I [that] commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but [as for] these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O Yahweh my Elohim, be on me, and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued. |

21:18 ¶
Then the angel°

should go up,°°
and set up°°
an altar°
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
in the threshingfloor°

the
Yævûsî
יְבוּסִי.° |

21:18 ¶
Then the angel of Yahweh commanded Gad to say to Dawid, that Dawid should go up, and set up an altar unto Yahweh in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Yevusi. |
|
21:19
And

went up°°
at the saying°
of
Gäđ
גָּד,°
which°
he spake°°
in the name°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.° |

21:19
And Dawid went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of Yahweh. |

21:20
And
´Ornän
אָרנָן°
turned back,°°
and saw°°°
the angel;°
and his four°
sons°
with°
him hid°°
themselves.°
Now
´Ornän
אָרנָן°
was threshing°°
wheat.° |
|
21:20
And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. |
|
21:21
And as

came°°
to°
´Ornän
אָרנָן,°
´Ornän
אָרנָן°
looked°°
and saw°°°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
and went out°°
of°
the threshingfloor,°
and bowed°°
himself°
to
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
with [his] face°
to the ground.° |

21:21
And as Dawid came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw Dawid, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to Dawid with [his] face to the ground. |
|
21:22
Then

אָרנָן,°
Grant°°
me the place°
of [this] threshingfloor,°
that I may build°°
an altar°
therein unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:°
thou shalt grant°°
it me for the full°
price:°
that the plague°
may be stayed°°
from°°
the people.° |

21:22
Then Dawid said to Ornan, Grant me the place of [this] threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto Yahweh: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people. |
|
21:23
And

unto°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
Take°°
[it] to thee, and let my
´áđôn
אֲדוֹן°
the king°
do°°
[that which is] good°
in his eyes:°
lo,°°
I give°°
[thee] the oxen°
[also] for burnt offerings,°
and the threshing instruments°
for wood,°
and the wheat°
for the meat offering;°
I give°°
it all.° |

21:23
And Ornan said unto Dawid, Take [it] to thee, and let my adon the king do [that which is] good in his eyes: lo, I give [thee] the oxen [also] for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all. |
|
21:24

Nay;°
but°
I will verily°°
buy°°
it for the full°
price:°
for°
I will not°
take°°
[that] which°
[is] thine for
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°

burnt offerings°
without cost.° |

21:24
And king Dawid said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take [that] which [is] thine for Yahweh, nor offer burnt offerings without cost. |
|
21:25
So

to
´Ornän
אָרנָן°
for the place°
six°
hundred°
shekels°
of gold°
by weight.° |
|
21:25
So Dawid gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight. |
|
21:26
And

an altar°
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
and offered°°
burnt offerings°
and peace offerings,°
and called°°
upon°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה;°
and he answered°°
him from°
heaven°
by fire°

the altar°
of burnt offering.° |

21:26
And Dawid built there an altar unto Yahweh, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon Yahweh; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering. |
|
21:27
And

commanded°°
the angel;°
and he put up°°
his sword°
again°°°
into°
the sheath°
thereof. |

21:27
And Yahweh commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof. |
|
21:28 ¶
At that°
time°
when

דָּוִד°
saw°°
that°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
had answered°°
him in the threshingfloor°
of
´Ornän
אָרנָן°
the
Yævûsî
יְבוּסִי,°
then he sacrificed°°
there.° |

21:28 ¶
At that time when Dawid saw that Yahweh had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Yevusi, then he sacrificed there. |
|
21:29
For the tabernacle°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
which°
Möšè
מֹשֶׁה°
made°°
in the wilderness,°
and the altar°
of the burnt offering,°
[were] at that°
season°
in the high place°
at
Giv`ôn
גִּבעוֹן.° |

21:29
For the tabernacle of Yahweh, which Mosheh made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, [were] at that season in the high place at Givon. |
|
21:30
But

דָּוִד°
could°°
not°
go°°°
before°
it to enquire°°
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים:°
for°
he was afraid°°
because°°
of the sword°
of the angel°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.° |
|
21:30
But Dawid could not go before it to enquire of Elohim: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Yahweh. |
