Numbers 20

1 The children of Israel come to Zin, where Miriam dieth. 2 They murmur for want of water. 7 Moses, smiting the rock, bringeth forth water at Meribah. 14 Moses at Kadesh desireth passage through Edom, which is denied him. 22 At mount Hor Aaron resigneth his place to Eleazar, and dieth.

 20:1 Then the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, the whole 3605 congregation 5712, came 935 to the wilderness 4057b of Zin 6790 in the first 7223 month 2320; and the people 5971a stayed 3427 at Kadesh 6946. Now Miriam 4813 died 4191 there 8033 and was buried 6912 there 8033.

 20:2 ¶ There was no 3808 water 4325 for the congregation 5712, and they assembled 6950 themselves against 5921 Moses 4872 and Aaron 175.

 20:3 The people 5971a thus contended 7378 with Moses 4872 and spoke 559, saying 559, “If 3863 only 3863 we had perished 1478 when our brothers 251 perished 1478 before 6440 the LORD 3068!

 20:4 “Why 4100 then have you brought 935 the LORD’S 3068 assembly 6951 into this 2088 wilderness 4057b, for us and our beasts 1165 to die 4191 here 8033?

 20:5 “Why 4100 have you made us come 5927 up from Egypt 4714, to bring 935 us in to this 2088 wretched 7451a place 4725? It is not a place 4725 of grain 2233 or figs 8384 or vines 1612 or pomegranates 7416, nor 369 is there 369 water 4325 to drink 8354.”

 20:6 Then Moses 4872 and Aaron 175 came 935 in from the presence 6440 of the assembly 6951 to the doorway 6607 of the tent 168 of meeting 4150 and fell 5307 on their faces 6440. Then the glory 3519b of the LORD 3068 appeared 7200 to them;

 20:7 and the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Moses 4872, saying 559,

 20:8 “Take 3947 the rod 4294; and you and your brother 251 Aaron 175 assemble 6950 the congregation 5712 and speak 1696 to the rock 5553 before their eyes 5869, that it may yield 5414 its water 4325. You shall thus bring 3318 forth 3318 water 4325 for them out of the rock 5553 and let the congregation 5712 and their beasts 1165 drink 8248.”

 20:9 ¶ So Moses 4872 took 3947 the rod 4294 from before 4480 6440 the LORD 3068, just 3512c as He had commanded 6680 him;

 20:10 and Moses 4872 and Aaron 175 gathered 6950 the assembly 6951 before 413 6440 the rock 5553. And he said 559 to them, “Listen 8085 now 4994, you rebels 4784; shall we bring 3318 forth 3318 water 4325 for you out of this 2088 rock 5553?”

 20:11 Then Moses 4872 lifted 7311 up his hand 3027 and struck 5221 the rock 5553 twice 6471 with his rod 4294; and water 4325 came 3318 forth 3318 abundantly 7227a, and the congregation 5712 and their beasts 1165 drank 8354.

 20:12 But the LORD 3068 said 559 to Moses 4872 and Aaron 175, “Because 3282 you have not believed 539 Me, to treat 6942 Me as holy 6942 in the sight 5869 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, therefore 3651 you shall not bring 935 this 2088 assembly 6951 into the land 776 which 834 I have given 5414 them.”

 20:13 Those 1992a [were] the waters 4325 of Meribah 4809, because 834 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 contended 7378 with the LORD 3068, and He proved 6942 Himself holy 6942 among them.

 20:14 ¶ From Kadesh 6946 Moses 4872 then sent 7971 messengers 4397 to the king 4428 of Edom 112b: “Thus 3541 your brother 251 Israel 3478 has said 559, ‘You know 3045 all 3605 the hardship 8513 that has befallen 4672 us;

 20:15 that our fathers 1 went 3381 down 3381 to Egypt 4714, and we stayed 3427 in Egypt 4714 a long 7227a time 3117, and the Egyptians 4714 treated 7489a us and our fathers 1 badly 7489a.

 20:16 ‘But when we cried 6817 out to the LORD 3068, He heard 8085 our voice 6963 and sent 7971 an angel 4397 and brought 3318 us out from Egypt 4714; now behold 2009, we are at Kadesh 6946, a town 5892b on the edge 7097a of your territory 1366.

 20:17 ‘Please 4994 let us pass 5674a through your land 776. We will not pass 5674a through 5674a field 7704 or through vineyard 3754; we will not even drink 8354 water 4325 from a well 875. We will go 1980 along the king’s 4428 highway 1870, not turning 5186 to the right 3225 or left 8040, until 5704 834 we pass 5674a through 5674a your territory 1366.’”

 20:18 ¶ Edom 112b, however, said 559 to him, “You shall not pass 5674a through 5674a us, or 6435 I will come 3318 out with the sword 2719 against 7122 you.”

 20:19 Again, the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 said 559 to him, “We will go 5927 up by the highway 4546, and if 518 I and my livestock 4735 do drink 8354 any of your water 4325, then I will pay 5414 its price 4377. Let me only 7534 pass 5674a through 5674a on my feet 7272, nothing 369 1697 [else].”

 20:20 But he said 559, “You shall not pass 5674a through 5674a.” And Edom 112b came 3318 out against 7122 him with a heavy 3515 force 5971a and with a strong 2389 hand 3027.

 20:21 Thus Edom 112b refused 3985 to allow 5414 Israel 3478 to pass 5674a through 5674a his territory 1366; so Israel 3478 turned 5186 away 5186 from him.

 20:22 ¶ Now when they set 5265 out from Kadesh 6946, the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, the whole 3605 congregation 5712, came 935 to Mount 2022 Hor 2023.

 20:23 Then the LORD 3068 spoke 559 to Moses 4872 and Aaron 175 at Mount 2022 Hor 2023 by the border 1366 of the land 776 of Edom 112b, saying 559,

 20:24 “Aaron 175 will be gathered 622 to his people 5971b; for he shall not enter 935 the land 776 which 834 I have given 5414 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, because 5921 834 you rebelled 4784 against 854 My command 6310 at the waters 4325 of Meribah 4809.

 20:25 “Take 3947 Aaron 175 and his son 1121 Eleazar 499 and bring 5927 them up to Mount 2022 Hor 2023;

 20:26 and strip 6584 Aaron 175 of his garments 899b and put 3847 them on his son 1121 Eleazar 499. So Aaron 175 will be gathered 622 [to his people], and will die 4191 there 8033.”

 20:27 So Moses 4872 did 6213a just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680, and they went 5927 up to Mount 2022 Hor 2023 in the sight 5869 of all 3605 the congregation 5712.

 20:28 After Moses 4872 had stripped 6584 Aaron 175 of his garments 899b and put 3847 them on his son 1121 Eleazar 499, Aaron 175 died 4191 there 8033 on the mountain 2022 top 7218. Then Moses 4872 and Eleazar 499 came 3381 down 3381 from the mountain 2022.

 20:29 When all 3605 the congregation 5712 saw 7200 that Aaron 175 had died 1478, all 3605 the house 1004 of Israel 3478 wept 1058 for Aaron 175 thirty 7970 days 3117.
